Why does it look like the sky is part of Mace's hood in this shot?

Go to Starkiller1138's post three places up and click on the fourth picture. Look at the top of his hood in the full 1080p shot.

This shot is outdoors during the funeral scene without any window near him. The bluish clouds behind him are actually part of the top of his hood.

It doesn't look blended to me. Yeah, the colors are definitely close, but he's wearing a dark brown hood at night; there's only so much you can do with that.

I can't believe what I'm seeing in a lot of these shots from the Phantom Menace. It's absolutely ridiculous. You'd think Lucasfilm would take their time and do everything in their power to provide the best possible transfer. But it looks like George decided to de-grain things to the point where details are literally being lost.

At this point, I have truly lost respect for the man. It seems he's become less competent than even the most amateur of filmmakers today. You'd think he would know a thing or two about maintaining a film's integrity.

But who am I kidding? The PQ on the 04 DVD had issues, the original release of the Phantom Menace had issues, so what makes us think things will get any better?

Hopefully, before George Lucas passes from our world and goes into the next, he'll pull a Darth Vader and redeem himself by giving us a proper release, with all bonus features, all cuts of the films, and transfers that are true to the source material.

Until then, we'll just have to settle for what's available. And that's sad.

Even if most of the material (other than the deleted scenes) are just rehashings of old information, they are enough to make me want the extras discs.

Plus the new documentary with Kershner's last interview should be pretty interesting.

In your original post, you made it sound as if all the extras were "been there, done that," while I feel it's quite the contrary.

That was the point of my post

I don't think there will EVER be a realease of the SW films that will please everybody, everyone has their own idea of how much grain or lack there of should be in a transfer. I've seen theater prints I didn't give a damn for either.

I agree on the Yoda. That was a great change.

When I blow up the Mace/Yoda shot in 1080p, I see the blending. The back part of his hood is the color of the sky. Oh well, there's nothing they can do now and it's not like I'll notice it during the scene.

Thanks so much for those screenshots I requested! I don't give a damn what anyone says, they can call me one of the ignorant sheep, I think those shots look great. These films are some of the most nitpicked films in the history of movies, there is NO pleasing some people. I think picture quality is a somewhat subjective thing. Some what a sharper picture, some want a softer, some want more details, I think I am somewhere in the middle.

The reason I have made a order for the complete edition is not to watch 1-3 but to get the extra material, I do not care about the last 3 movies "the phantome menace, etc). All I wanted was to have is the original STAR WARS movies with the extras. But I was forced to buy the whole pack. Guess I never will watch the last 3.

Wtf, why does Yoda look like a painting? Also, he seems to look older than the puppet CGI replacement of Yoda in the other scene.

This has to be fake, right?

Re the above pic of Yoda and SLJ - can one of the proper PQ experts tell me if SLJ looks good or bad in that pic? Is that DNR or is the fake-ness in my imagination? Honest sincere question.

I'm sure GL had the final word on the look of TPM on BD and he wanted it to match the digital look of EP II and EP III as best as he could. He'll never have a complete consistency for all 6 movies unless he re-shoots IV-VI digitally. Maybe when he gets really bored. I wonder if he'd ever let anyone else direct them.
