I'm sure glad they didn't release it on Tuesday September 12th. We would never get it then.

Bah. Looks like you fixed the date in your post. Don't worry though. My foot is firmly placed in my mouth.

Oh, I don't know about that...

Just too excited for this sucker to show up! In fact, I'm watching all of my bonus discs and even playing both Force Unleashed games to get me in the mood for the movies when they finally arrive on or (hopefully) before Friday!

I know!

I was born too late to get in on the LD action, although I have watched a fair few LD over the years on my friends dads set up. Saving Private ryan switching sides on like 2 or 3 discs

I'm not sure why the VHS of Star Wars is designed differently. And the fact it says Star Wars rather than A New Hope surprises me. I think I was 6 when I asked my mum to buy it for me back in '94 I think. The others are dated '95.

I've always prefered watching them in numerical order because the OT is alot more fun than the PT in terms of light-heartedness. There is this gloomy, dark cloud over the PT that keeps me from watching it last. Gots to end the story on a high note!

Asking again, no answer before....Someone with the set please tell me if the Vader choking Jerrjerod near the Royal Guards is in the deleted scenes? What is it labeled under? I hear the "Jerrjerod's Conflict" is a scene where Jerrjerod has been ordered to fire on Endor because the deflector shield is down. Are both scenes on there???

Please don't assume that I'm defending anyone calling other people "sheep" or "suckers" or whatever else. I'm not. So this is not one of those "you're either with us or agin' us" moments. But I am pointing out that "a lot of the negative comments" have come from those who are content with the release, and so have turned their own complaints against other posters rather than a Blu-ray release -- which is a more undesirable and less defensible position, frankly.

For myself, my own thoughts on this release are that Lucas can do what he wants, quite obviously, but the people he wants to have buy the product can also respond to what he does, positively or otherwise. Especially since the advertising is all focused on the buyer's experience, recapturing memories and owning the definitive version for all time - which is at odds with Lucas' perpetual tinkering, and with strident claims that they're his films and no-one else has any right to a say in the matter. But Lucas has always been one for giving out decidedly mixed messages, so I guess it's in his nature.

As I said a score or more pages back, I personally wish GL would accept that these films will never be completely perfect in his eyes, and let them be for the amazing achievement they are, and move on to other things, expressing his creativity in new movies rather than visual fiddles.

He once talked about Star Wars being nine movies, so where are the other three? We've had the Empire Trilogy, and the Rebellion Trilogy ... so where's the Restoration Trilogy?
First off, though I am sure you meant no offense, when quoting me in a discussion such as this, please do not take sentences out of context by not reposting the whole quote. This too is a tactic.

Secondly, I agree that it is more productive to keep personal jabs out of the equation.

My opinion of the release is though not perfect they are very worthwhile and will be alot of fun to watch. Which, I imagine, would be the opinion of most of the pro blu-ray release camp.

As far as the advertising campaign, they are the definitive versions according to Lucas, at least for now. Advertising is always very pro the product they are advertising - it is kindof what they do right or wrong.

In regards to the "perpetual tinkering," the technology of movies is in a constant state of evolution, so as the technology progresses so do wishes and ideas of their creators. I give you that Lucas is prone to this more so than most, but given his background as an editor, and his obvious love for the Star Wars universe, he likes to "improve" his art. Vincent VanGogh would often paint several versions of the same painting trying to capture the image just right. Many writers or directors, such as Shakespeare, change a scene, add or remove a scene or dialogue to acheive his vision - often after the production has already opened. So Lucas is doing nothing new.

As far as the third trilogy, I am sure his wife walking out on him at some point during the ten years when he was making the first trilogy might have soured his desire to continue Star Wars. Yet, when he did make more Star Wars movies, people who would call him a genious turned on and accused him of ruining their childhood. So, that might also play into why he hasn't decided to dedicate another ten years to a final trilogy.

Finally, people can have whatever opinion they want obviously, and most of this thread is opinion. As such, one man's problem with a miscolored lightsaber in a film frame is another man's overreaction.

Wow. Revenge of the Sith last? And Attack of the Clones as your favorite Prequel?
Care to elaborate why you feel that way? I'm just curious, never seen someone list them that way before.

Re: The Laser Gates on Naboo. Check the movie out. Obi-Wan had just done a multi-level force leap up to the walkway where Qui-Gon and Maul were before he started running for the Laser Gates. Plus both Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan had already been dueling Maul for a while before that.

So the idea that Obi-Wan was exhausted from both the dueling and the exertion of the force leap are perfectly reasonable.

Since there is no UOT on the horizon (and there may never be), I would only partake this set if:

A. It was given to me as a gift.
B. I found an INSANE deal on it ($30 or lower).
or
C. George Lucas shot a new scene for ANH where Han decided to leave the bar, go to Greedo's house, then shoot the green bastard in the back of the head while he's watching reruns of 30 Rock and eating Cheetos. Then Han would stand over Greedo's corpse and yell, "Preemptive strike, mother****er!"

ROTS will be my last, too.

I thought my daughter wanted TPM first, but she pulled a fast one on me and it looks like we'll be opening with...ROTJ! Go figure.

Her favorites are the OT, then TPM, then AOTC, so that's how we'll watch them.
