I am eagerly anticipating the arrival of my Complete Saga set from UPS from Amazon. I'm pacing around the house. It's bad.

Anybody else having issues with the discs? My eps 1 & 2 (so far) have had playback issues, much of it being pixelated.

Hey, I like ROTS and ROTS Yoda -- he prances around in his charming CG way and deflects similarly CG lightning bolts about in a likewise CG environment.

But the eye doesn't lie: This Yoda came out of a computer. And, to repeat, Frank Oz's work in TESB was great in 1980, and it's great today.

Anyway, I suppose I should just be happy that you didn't get your way -- TESB Yoda is safe, for now. That sounded like gloating, but it's a pretty limited victory in the context of Lord Lucas's ceaseless revisionism.

Last night the electronics department scanned it in at $109.99. The lady at the front register scanned it at $79.96, didn't even need my Target ad that I had with me. The guy in front of me forgot his in his van and he would have used mine but their (Wal-Mart) price was lower.

Having watched only episode 4 so far, I gotta say it's just a huge letdown that Fox didn't go for a new transfer. Using the 2004 masters was a big mistake imo even though it obviously was all about $$.
Does the bd look way better then the dvd?
of course, and some closeups look very nice.
the various scenes in darkness really suffer, however, and the bd really struggles to provide much additional clarity in these scenes. Even if the "real" original film never comes to bd, at least Fox needs to spring for a proper 4k restoration of the OT.
The overall clarity on these OT bds could have been far better imo, and even though it's a definite upgrade, this set is nowhere near as good as it could have been with a better effort imo.
no way SW deserves a 4.0 for pq given the quality I have seen on many other films from the 60's and 70's.
3.0 for pq imo at best.
Fox deserves any criticism it gets after all the effort they put forth for the Alien series.
Star Wars certainly deserved exactly the same effort, and it's apparent to me that didn't happen.

Talked to BN yesterday and they said they are shipping out everything on Friday, because that's the actual release date or something along those lines. It's BS but whatever, and I had expedited shipping too.

But hey, again, $45 is worth waiting a couple of days.

Lucas has even said in various DVD extras and other places he doesn't intend to replace the puppet Yoda from ESB or RotJ.
Yeah, I remember that on the DVD bonus features. They just used Yoda from ESB as the model on which to base CGI Yoda for the PT.

Also, another inaccurate statement is from that review is this:

Quote:
It's fairly common knowledge that the Blu-rays were mastered from the same HD scans that were used for the DVD release back in 2004. That means these transfers are at least 8 years old - very far from state of the art. To make matters worse, those scans were done at just HD resolution - not the 4K, 6K, or even 8K of current negative scans for film restoration and BD release purposes, but essentially 1K - 1920x1080. That's it. As most of you know, those DVD presentations were rife with visual problems, so the prospects for any quality BD release using these transfers seemed dim. Surprisingly, however, Lucasfilm and Lowry Digital have gone to a great deal of trouble to correct those problems. For one thing, many of the worst color-timing issues of the DVDs have been fixed - not all of them to be sure and not completely, but at least to the point where they're not so egregious. Some of the inconsistencies of the lightsaber coloring have been adjusted too. More of the obvious "garbage" mattes have been removed. Most of the Snow Speeder cockpits in Empire are less see-through. Visual errors large and small in all of the original trilogy films have been corrected. To be fair, there are still flaws in these transfers due to the fact that they're nearly a decade old and were made at such low resolution. These include occasional edge halos, crushed blacks and somewhat oversaturated colors. (For the record, I'm not convinced that the crushed blacks and oversaturated colors are a defect so much as a deliberate choice on Lucas' part. They've been visible in these films since at least 1997, so it's hard to say.)
The bold part is where the innacuracy occurs, but I included the rest of the text leading up to it for context.

Regardless of whether or not these changes were intentional on Lucas's part, the crush blacks and coloring issues were new to the 2004 versions. This wasn't an issue in the 1997 versions. Despite the enhancements done for the 1997 SE release, the general coloring was rather accurate to the original releases.

Your turn. Help a brother in Los Angeles out. Where did you go and did they have plenty? I can't go till late this afternoon and if it's sold out, I will Force Choke somebody. All these folks going to Walmart and finding limited stock have me on edge.
