For anyone wanting to purchase just the original trilogy alone I highly suggest you save your $40. The dvd's hold up remarkably well and I remember when they first came out just how stunning they were. Lucas redid many of the effects as well at the time and the 2004 dvd set was a stellar release. Releasing the same masters in 2011 on bluray not so much. The 2K CGI looked far worse than the optical with model work and I guess we will have to wait till 2015 till the 3-D release and hopefully these films will get 4K scans with the effects redone in 4K. The dvd to bluray comparison is spot on at caps-a-holic. It reminds me of comparing dvd's to bluray when the format first came out, but who would have thought Lucas would be using 7 year old masters for bluray? On the positive side the preqeul trilogy seems to be a worth while upgrade.
Speak for yourself. I don't buy blu-ray for the picture alone.

But on Phantom Menace... Duel of the Fates.... my lord it sounds epic.
YES! It brought a smile to my face. It was like watching it for the very first time all over again.

Need I say more! Not much of a difference at all and the bluray should have mopped the floor with the dvd. But that is what happens when you use 7 year old dvd masters! Those screencaps are spot on!

This is what a proper 4K 2010+ restoration should looks like!

What way did you first see the films? OT or PT first? I think its better to watch the OT first if you never seen star wars before. But since Ive seen them all it's always 1-6

WHAT THE HECK IS THAT and WHY IS IT THERE?

Upper right corner, in the same place the loading symbol would show, or reading DVD or Bluray after it loads, it's a very small video camera. I thought it meant ALTERNATE ANGLE like SOMe blurays have two or three camera angles to view (like Moulin Rouge in the Special Features). But Star Wars has NO alternate camera angles.

AgHHHHHHHHH

Screen caps are never a good way to judge a BD. The only way to judge is by watching it. You have only seen 4 and 5. So you cant really comment on the quality of the other discs.

And no matter what way you cut it the Audio is unbeatable.

Maybe this video camera thing is an access point to an easter egg. Anyone try any codes when it pops up or just enter? 1138?

LOL well let us know...

I think AOTC is pretty good quality. When Yoda is trying to find the missing planet with the kids looks amazing, and when Anakin and Padme are in the field talking and riding that (thing lol) looks amazing.

Just finished watching Menace and Clones. The video on Menace was better than I was expecting, though nowhere near perfect. Audio on both was simply outstanding. I just overhauled my system and made the jump to 7.2. It was like I was in the theater! Here's how I'd rate Ep.1 and 2:

TPM : video - 8/10 , audio - 11/10

AOTC: video - 8.75/10, audio - 11/10

I did throw in ROTS for a few minutes to check out the audio, and wow, what a disappointment. It's exactly how I remembered it being in the theaters - lifeless and underwhelming, especially coming off a double-feature of Menace and Clones. I'll have to watch Sith in it's entirety, but from what I've heard so far, the audio on Episode III is an 8/10 at best, and that's a generous "8". I have to disagree with Casey and Bill Hunt's score on that one.

There's a reason why Sith is the only SW film NOT to be nominated for an Oscar in the sound dept..

Haven't recieved my Amazon copy yet :\

Could anyone tell me where I could find a list of changes made to the movies? When I was watching "Empire" in Wal-Mart, I noticed that there is a CGI Yoda when Luke is training (doing the handstand), so there is obviously more changes than most sites are aware of. (I am one of the few who enjoy the changes... I watch the originals on VHS for nostalgia... but if they're going to be changed, might as well enjoy it)

Thanks for the help!

You have no idea what you are talking about. I just watched episodes 4 and 5 and those screencaps are spot on! I own over 500 HD titles and screencaps are by far the best way to judge PQ. There is no subjectivity since you are the one interpreting them. I synched the audio and flipped back and forth between the bluray and dvd. The detail being from a 1.9K scan done 7 years ago isn't there on the screencaps and it isn't there on my monitor. Also I only commented on the original trilogy! I highly doubt being Lowry remastered ROTJ with the same 1.9K scan done 7 years ago it will be much different. Anyone thinking 1.9K scans done 7 years ago is a revelation in picture quality is a fanboy and nothing more! These are hardly state of the art as THX and Lucas claim to stand for. The dvd set released in 2004 was exceptional as I stated.

I wonder how much that matters, since you can't exactly own an hd broadcast.

I am 32, grew up on the OT and I have no problem with the PT in fact I enjoy the movies as much as the OT. I am just getting sick and tired of obnoxious individuals not reviewing this discs but taking every opportunity to take unnecessary shots at the PT
