Except that they were sandpeople, he considered them to be animals, and they were a nuisance to him during his childhood with them always attacking his people whenever possible.

It'd be like losing someone you love to a lion and then you get an AK47 and take revenge on all the lions. On revenge killings of animals it is considered okay to kill the one animal, so slaughtering all of them would be considered unethical but not as unethical as killing a human.

That's why he hesitates killing Count Dooku.

Exactly. People from Tatooine don't view the Tusken Raiders as civilized human beings.
Sure, Anakin's actions were indeed horrific. But they did abduct his Mother and torture her til she died.
Plus it's not like he doesn't regret those actions afterwards, hence his breakdown in the Garage. It was basically temporary insanity.

Cliegg Lars: It was just before dawn. They came out of nowhere. A hunting party of Tusken Raiders. Your mother had gone out early, like she always did, to pick mushrooms that grow on the vaporators. From the tracks, she was about halfway home when they took her. Those Tuskens walk like men, but they're vicious, mindless monsters. Thirty of us went out after her. Four of us came back. I'd be with them, only... after I lost my leg I just couldn't ride any more... until I heal. I don't want to give up on her, but she's been gone a month. There's little hope she's lasted this long.

The horrible german dubbed version of that scene used the odd translation: "Nachdem ich mein Bein verlor, konnte ich nicht mehr auf einem Pferd reiten..." ("after I lost my leg I just couldn't ride a horse any more...")

ROFL. Ok, yeah... that's a bad translation. Wow. Ok, clearly the Eopies are nicknamed "Horses".

Today's news of Sony attempting to pass the buck on 3D glasses to theaters only serves to ensure that 'The Phantom Menace' will be the only 3D Star Wars film ever to hit the big screen.

That doesn't prove or ensure anything. And it'll end up how the theaters respond.

They already charge you extra for the 3-D Presentation and the Glasses anyway.

It all depends on whether they allow you to bring your own rather than buy them with your ticket.

Given the ticket sales for The Lion King 3-D, I doubt 3-D is going to fade away like everyone thinks.

And the article talks about probably paying another $1.00 for 3-D. And? People waste more money on the concessions.

Well at least we know one person that will be going to see it.

Of course I will. I need to get those 5 more viewings in to get to 20 theatrical viewings of The Phantom Menace.

Look George practical techniques in movie making with a true remaster.
(I can't help but see homages to this film in The Phantom Menace)

The effects in any movie, whether it be from the 20s or from the past few years, astonish me equally because in every case you see technology pushed to the max.

One of the things I love about the SW OT is that those movies are still impressive from a tech standpoint. You see all the work in compositing multiple frames, building miniatures, etc. while making sure it all matches. The CGI updates take my attention away from that and simply don't blend as well with the old effects.

Agreed. Even though, Yoda in The Phantom Menace is very very well done.

And then 3 more times during Opening Day. It's still my favorite film in the Saga.

I've only seen bits and pieces of Yoda in TPM, as I don't own the blu-ray and haven't downloaded any rips. Since TPM has more modern effects I can see CGI Yoda fitting in. If the rumors are true about Yoda eventually being CGI in Empire, though I don't believe this at all at the moment, I think that's a case where it would stand out and not blend well.

Side questions:

1. Can SW fans ever accept that some of them have different preferences (PT vs. OT, UOT vs. Special Edition, etc.)? Will these debates go on forever?

2. If there is another blu-ray release, what do people want to see (other than 3D or unaltered originals)?

Probably, unless lots of people on either side choose to jump ship first.

I'd like to see extended cuts of all 6 films, with deleted scenes finished, polished like crazy, and reincorporated into the narrative. I'd love to see the scene between Yoda & Qui-Gon actually shot for inclusion in "Episode III".

Other than the originals being in a new release with the 3D, the only other thing I would want is for ALL "extras" ever released to be part of the set.

Otherwise whatever form George wants to next show us of "How he intended the movie to look like when it 1st came out, but somehow could not" that is what I want to see.
