I would have bought those, if I hadn't already bought the huge box with a wad of DVDs I'm never going to play.

I bought the orignal trilogy pack last year but if I knew about these steelbooks I would have held out. I wonder how much they are going to go for?

Here in Australia, they're available for pre-order at $53 Aussie dollars each — but Aussie releases are usually a lot more expensive than their UK or US equivalents.

For reference, the two existing Trilogy packs retail here for $70 a piece.

The best possible reply as I am also from Austarila.

And yeah, whenever I go into JB-HI-FI I am always stunned seeing that the individual trilogy packs are still so expensive to this day. I would never pay those prices which is why I got a significantly better deal online on eBay.

Maaaaaate!!

That's why I bought the "Complete" (ha-ha!) Saga set, because I got it in a Dick Smith closing sale for cheaper than just one of the Trilogy boxes.

Even when their deal for the other movies expires, they'll still have a finger in the Star Wars pie unless (as assumed) Disney come up with a fat offer to buy them out completely.
When Lucas was the owner of Lucasfilm, did he had to ask Fox permission to release a Home Video release? Who's paying for the transfer? If the only thong Fox is doing is put it's logo on the packaging and the opening logo at the start of the film and both Lucasfilm and Fox share the profit, then nothing change because Disney bought it.

If Lucasfilm, via K. Kennedy approach Fox to re-release another version and Fox don't have to invest a single penny, you think they'll say No because Disney will have a share of the profits?

The point is that LFL don't have their own infrastructure to replicate & distribute discs on a mass scale (same applies to the creation and distribution of prints/digital cinema packages for theatrical release), which is where Fox came in. Why do you think Lucas was schlepping Red Tails around Hollywood? He never needed anyone's "permission" to create the film, but without someone doing the heavy lifting it's going nowhere fast.

Now that LFL has been folded into Disney, they have the House of Mouse's distribution network locked in, which is why it would be preferable to cut out the middle man, i.e. to own all the rights to all the Star Wars films lock, stock and barrel.

I have seen all of these movies at some point in time but I watched A New Hope last night. I feel like it is the slowest of all of them. It is good, just not quite as good as the others. That is just my opinion.

I very much doubt a metal case is going to make the discs any better.

The original Star Wars loses a lot of its luster if you grew up watching ESB, RotJ, and the prequels. There won't be the sense of wonder and awe that you would've experienced if it was the very first Star Wars film you ever saw.

Seeing R2D2, the Star Destroyers, the lightsabre, and the X-Wing for the first time inspired my imagination to heights that none of the sequels ever matched. Unfortunately, people who got into Star Wars watching the sequels first would've been desensitized to all the cool stuff introduced in the original film.

The original film is much more sprightly in its theatrical version. The new scenes and myriad CG bolt-ons of the Special Edition slow the movie down something chronic.

I agree. I was five when it came out in 1977 and nothing else was ever like it again in that regard. For the three years after its release, the entire Star Wars universe was based around the film and it really had a mystique to it and for anyone who saw it for the first time especially in a theater at that time. The movie in and of itself was/is so amazing - nothing more defining of "Star Wars."

The new Steelbooks are, at least, a good investment if the O.T is released one day. I'd happily get it and put the 'new' discs inside.
