I'm also optimistic about this blu-ray release, but that was a pretty blind statement...

Anything with the "Star Wars" name on it will sell well. If the blu-rays were just a set of the 2004 1080p transfer with no changes it would sell well. Even if there were no extras in the set it would still sell well because the majority of the people who buy the set would not bother looking online to see if the set warrants a purchase, they would just see Star Wars and pick it up because they want to see the movies in HD.

We are 75-100 people on a forum. Wether we buy the set or not makes no difference to Lucasfilms.

So yes, it's a big release, a HUGE release. But that doesn't mean it will be perfect.

But as I said, I'm also optimistic

I personally think that the information and "screencaps" that we received today is some of the best news that we've heard since they first announced Star Wars on Blu-ray, but yes, I'll reserve judgement until I have it in my own hands, and see it with my own eyes. There are many releases that I have boycotted based on a bad transfer, or a crappy or lossy audio mix, but I'm getting this no matter what.

reading reviews for the 04 DVD release is really funny in retrospect

moviefreak.com

"Nothing short but AWESOME. It’s amazing how much they truly cleaned up. I was kind of worried with the prequels and this…since the prequels were filmed recently. But rest-assure, the quality is just beyond what we all can wish and dream about. I mean – it looks ten times better then the 1997 versions. Picture is darkened and enhanced with the widescreen format – so you see MORE! You will almost question that this is a film that was filmed in 2004, rather then 1977! "

hopefully this time it will be "Nothing short but EPIC and we will question that this is a film that was filmed in 2011, rather than 1977!"

Thank you for this post. You will find that "haters" like me don't feel much differently. We've seen a lot of snippets, screenshots, etc. throughout the past couple of months and much of it has not been very promising if you take it as face value. But, since nothing to this point has actually been a screenshot of the blu-ray, nobody can say "it sucks" and nobody can say "it's perfect."

I still have my B&N preorder for $40 out the door (50% off ship to home, $10 off Groupon). I'm probably going to wait a few days to see what people on here and elsewhere are saying after it comes out then will either keep it, return it, or sell it.

If I could get the set for $40 I wouldn't care if it was a huge step up from '04 or not!

Still $100 here in Canada.

Because finding a review from a half-assed unknown website from 2004 says anything about websites with credentials now.

I'm really hoping for a price war up here. My Amazon pre-order has a stupidly high price on it right now.

almost makes me want to compile a list of all the reviews from back then, i'm sure 90% + are glowing like that one-

and i'm sure history will repeat itself even if the new releases have problems-

Unless you have owned every release before, $90 isn't a lot to spend on 6 movies. Each of them being $15.

And I'll probably still be paying $100 on the 16th

I agree 100% though. Definitely a fair price.

If they go on sale on release day, which I'm pretty sure they will, you could possibly get the complete set for around $80, and if you divide that by all nine discs, that's only $8.88 per disc. That sounds pretty good to me.

WOW.
Let me ask you - I know all about the first OT release on DVD. But the second release, are there additional special features (apart from the UOT) on those discs that make them worth picking up? I'm a little bit of a completist and it drives me nuts that these sets don't have everything.

Nice to meet another completist I'm a bit extreme as you can see

The only difference between the 2004 DVDs in the box set and the 2006 Limited Editions is the inclusion of the UOT. The main disc is exactly the same in both sets.

You can put one of the 2004 discs in a DVD player, eject it, put the 2006 disc in and it will resume from where you left off.
