Bollocks. You got me that one slipped past my editor. He was punished severely.

It was in the last episode of Star Wars Clone Wars season two. That's the episode where General Grievous gets his cough as well....

Well from what I read so far this makes me very excited and happy. I never knew that TPM had such cropping issues. I'll have to compare my DVD to the LaserDisc and VHS to see what (if any) changes there are related to cropping or the aspect ratio.

I'm happy I pre-ordered my Saga set from Amazon, I can't wait to get it. They've been working on this for years and it seems like they really did put a lot of hard work into this and have taken a lot of time and attention to certain details.

I can't wait!!

I'm only asking because of the fact that Episodes II and III max out at 1080p and Lucas has basically set that resolution as the defacto resolution for the entire Saga for the future.

For home viewing purposes, isn't that enough for the future? I mean, I just don't see the industry coming out with another HD disc based format after this.

To me, the next phase is 1080p streaming/digital download that's equal to or greater than Blu Ray.
I do know that the industry is working on UltraHD which is 16X the resolution of TrueHD. I remember reading reports of an event where they used an UltraHD camera to film from the inside of a moving car and reporters had to leave because they were getting nauseous watching the footage in UltraHD.

As far as that being anything more than a niche product, who's to say. I honestly feel that Blu is the best that the main public will ever want to invest in for the foreseeable future.

This just goes to show that no matter what good will come from this set STILL people will find fault.
Things have been fixed that fans wanted to be fixed but still we are complaining.
I suspect this is solely because people want the UOT on blu.
Lucas said no UOT on blu. Period end of story.

HTF and Digital Bits will report on the event because it drives page views. However, a true reviewer will not allow that to affect their final review on the final product.

Don't result to name-calling because you don't understand how the industry works. Your ignorance is repulsive.
+1. Well said, and I cannot for the life of me understand why people are jumping all over Bill Hunt and HTF. They are simply reporting what they saw and their intial impressions.

People complained that Lucasfilm was not being forthcoming with info about the discs and were not answering questions to people's satisfaction. Now they are providing a format to answer some of those questions and there are more complaints. The negativity surrounding this release is simply stunning. Lucas is damned if he does, and damned if he doesn't.

I was happy to hear what Bill Hunt and other industry insiders had to say. I am very curious about what "other surprises" are.

I am also a little scared. The one surprise I DO want is the restoration of Han shooting first.

Too much to ask? Probably.

I had heard this was a factor as well...I'm just not quite sure how big a factor it was.
What? I highly doubt that....

It would be great if it were restored but it is negated if HC is in Jedi....

I don't hate Hayden in Jedi, they just need to re-shoot it. He just looks weird because he's not in the moment. Hayden said he didn't even know he was in Jedi until he saw the change. They obviously did a quick cut-and-paste using whatever footage they had instead of going through the effort to do a proper head replacement (see Blade Runner: The Final Cut).

Wen all know that YouTube video even in 1080p is highly compressed, but it still shows how the new color timing and framing looks.

Here's little comparison between screenshots from DVD [top] and clip from YT [bottom]:

Who cares? what other people choose to complain about.
Lucas and co. have really taken their time with this and by all indications this will be amazing.
For those that are still complaining stick with your old outdated versions. At least in your mind they are the best.

It would be really stunning if people would quote big pics by using a spolier tag so the same shots are not filling up the next three pages. Pretty Please...

1080p is practically 2K resolution, so there is very little difference

1920 x 1080. It's by the horizontal resolution

Reference 2K has 2048 horizontal scan lines.

Likewise, 4K is not 4000p or anything close to that. Its 4096 x 2304, so about double the resolution of 1080p.

The difference between 2K and 4K resolution would be comparable to the difference between 480p DVD video and 1080p HD video. Quite a huge leap.

Optical discs will last another decade, at least. More than enough time for the next HD format to be introduced. If they, for some twisted reason, stop producing new blu-rays and try to cram digital downloads and whatnot down our throats, I would still stick to blu-ray. Heck, they could provide 4K digital downloads and I would still stick to blu-ray. I don't spend money to download a video. I spend money to get a disc, a case with artwork, booklets, the works. I'm sure a lot of people would do the same.

People like me are tired of seeing Bill Hunt get attacked personally when it has absolutely nothing to do with the discussion. The post he was responding just made an off-handed and unnecessary comment about Bill that had NOTHING to do with the set.

It depends how big your screen is. Like 1080p is good enough for a home theatre with an average sized TV screen.

At the moment in the cinema when you see a digital projection of a Movie you are usually watching a much greater resolution. I can't do the maths but the quality is much better than Blu-Ray.

Those that attack him are the ones that want Bill Hunt to say something negative about this so they can sleep better at night.
Because he has said positive things he becomes a target for their UOT rage.
Childish if you ask me.

Completely true. I know Bill somewhat and he is someone who is always a glass is half full type of guy and he likes to express his opinions in that way.

Most of the time anyway.

Back to the Star Wars set,

He did not say that the originals looked perfect, but that many of the previous issues from the 2004 dvds HAD been fixed.

But the fact that these sets aren't full 4k restorations and he isn't "outraged" about that will make people unhappy.

1920 x 1080 = 2,073,600 pixels

4k is roughly( there are quite a few different standards at the moment)

4096 × 2304 = 9,437,184 pixels

So 4k is actually almost 5 times the resolution of 2k.
