For me, an older presentation of a Star Wars film is just as important as the bonus features. For this reason I will never be getting rid of any of my VHS tapes or DVDs (and I am still searching for the Laserdiscs and CEDs). I still want to be able to see the 1997 CG Jabba in Episode IV, the puppet Yoda in Episode I, the crappy lightsaber effects from the early VHS releases. Just for my own archival purposes I suppose ![]() Therefore, it makes no difference to me if no extras are ported over... I already own everything anyways. |

Puppets, models, and matte paintings are a larger part of cinema history than just the 70s-80s... how about, since the first films were made?

They really didn't become huge until the 60s when science fiction took off. I'm not saying they weren't used before that, but the late 60's to late 80's is when they really took off in terms of special effects. EDIT: I thought I stated "puppets, models, etc. are a HUGE part of 70's-80's films..." guess I left the word out ![]() |

Well, the main reason I'm thinking of ditching the film DVDs is because I'm not sure I'll be able to stand them anymore, if the Blu-Rays prove to be as great as they appear to be. I'm not a diehard collector by any means, but if I decide to get rid of the film DVDs, others can have them for free at that point, if they want them. I'll even pay for shipping.

They're definitely an important part of Star Wars. I can't wait to see how some of the models look in HD. But I think it's important to note that mattes have been used as long as they've been recording cinematic history haha |

The 501st "Star Warriors" doc using up 84 minutes on this set leaves me shaking my head. Especially when you consider that 3 of the 4 classic docs are included here while the 4th, From Star Wars to Jedi, is left off. The 501st doc is taking up space that FSWTJ should have filled, in my opinion. FSWTJ has never even been released on DVD. I guess George Lucas just put Star Warriors on there as an homage to them. I think it would have been more appropriate as a separate release or even as a store exclusive. The R2-KT is the R2 unit that they made for the founder's little daughter, correct? |

R2-KT started off as a real-world replica of an R2-series astromech droid with pink highlights. Albin Johnson, the founder of the 501st Legion, wanted to build a pink droid for his daughter Katie, who was dying from brain cancer (In fact, the "KT" suffix would appear to be a reference to her name). When it was realized that he did not have enough time, R2-KT was built by Jerry Greene, master droid builder, with the help of the R2 Builders Club. R2-KT makes appearances at children's hospitals, Star Wars Celebration and charity events in the southeastern United States. A Hasbro action figure of this droid was sold at San Diego Comic-Con 2007 and the character had a cameo in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars film. And I'm not surprised there's a Doc on there for them. Lucas was moved by all they do for Charity. And of course, as you can see above they were moved by Katie's story and honored her in a number of areas. |

Thanks for the information. Poor girl. ![]() We'll have to agree to disagree on the doc's inclusion on the set but I think they could have come up with a great idea for that documentary, much better than it just being put on the set and forgotten about eventually. Instead of it being included on the set, I think they should have sold it for $5-$10, right alongside the BD set on release day, with all proceeds going to children's charities. With Lucasfilm's great wealth and vast resources, they could have donated all their time and materials to producing and distributing it, while letting fans know that 100% of the purchase would go to charity. I know I would have bought it to support a good cause for sick children. |

I hope they don't. There's absolutley no need to make that change. One of the reasons why those films worked was because of the puppet and Frank Oz. Visually, the puppet in TPM didn't work at all, hence the change.

I just want to see screen caps from A New Hope to see if the image throughout the film has crushed blacks or not!

Any of those would have made great choices, although I'm partial to A. I like B and F too. 'E' sounds pretty cool and would definitely make the set a must-buy, but they may have to change the ratings for that one. ![]() Last edited by Breather; 08-23-2011 at 02:21 AM. |
