I honestly can live with most of the changes with the Original Trilogy. The lack of the theatrical versions on all the films is rather annoying. I had always hoped for a mega set that contained all released versions, similar to Blade Runner. I really hope that special effects have been touched up for this release (there's no reason why the lightsabers don't look perfect).

I really wish that the theatrical releases were included. However, there's still over a year for a miracle announcement. I don't put it past Lucas to offer a second more extensive and more expensive release (like Apocalypse Now's set) that would include AT LEAST 16:9 480p original theatrical trilogy.

1. Waiting for blu-ray to gain a foothold
2. Doing work for transfer to 1080p
3. He may have been waiting for a chance to release these as a tie-in to SW 3D
4. He's always taken awhile to release his movies on a new format, that's nothing new.

Yep. Plus like I said, trying to put CG Yoda in every movie like he's been talking about. Because he feels it needs to be done

I actually doubt the blu-ray sales will be even 1/10 the total sales of all the other formats, again probably a reason he's waited so long to do it.

Im stoked and yet disapointed at the same time.

No, not because its not the classic version, which honestly i really dont care about in the slightest. I'm one of those rare few (and some would say not a true fan) who likes the special editions over the classics.

Why? Cause it was how i was introduced to the star wars saga. I was born in 1983, became a star trek fan, and a friend of mine told me right around the time of the special editions id like star wars too. and of course he was right.

No im not one of those fans who thinks one is better then the other. Im just a fan of good story telling in general.

But, the special editions sit fine with me. Dont get me wrong im all for the classic versions too, but it doesnt bother me in the slightest that im getting the newer versions.

that said, WHY THE HELL DO THEY GOT TO ANOUNCE THIS STUFF OVER A YEAR BEFORE ITS OUT?

Honestly, its not just star wars, its almost everything now. Video games, movies, etc. We get movie anouncments even before a script is written for said film.

I'm not that old (27) but i remember quite a few movies that the teaser trailer for the film was the first anouncement.

Now yes i get we live in the age of instant communication and all that, but honestly, its getting to the point where its like, great im all excited, disapointed i got to wait a year OR LONGER for the final product.

Thats kinda crule. I would have been much happier if they said nothing, or better yet, they said, THERE COMING OUT THIS YEAR!

I remember going insane waiting for the prequels. 3 years wait between each film, going over the internet trying to find every single rumor, speculation, etc..

then when the big day came there was no supprises left! more so, i knew the film so well that it dident live up to expecations because for 3 years i had it laid out in my head and dident match what i expected.

Granted this case is diffrent cause its just a home video launch and not a new film, but still...the waiting game is brutal.

But i guess for some people its nice to have somthing to look foward to, even if its a year later.

I think this quote by Lucas pretty much says this will be re-released later on with a OOT Blu.

Quote:
“We’ve been working on them for quite a while,” Mr. Lucas said, “but still, there are pipelines. Unfortunately, the recent releases get priority over what we call the classic versions of things.”

Good news for those of us who would like to own both cuts and just want one or the other now.

If that's true, I'll probably wait for the original releases. I used to love Star Wars, but the internet made me indifferent. Now Indiana Jones on the other hand...

well there have been so many releases on all of the other formats and blu-ray is all by itself.....of course the blu-ray sales aren't gonna match the rest of the formats!!!

Potentially good news regarding the OOT. I don't mind the Special Editions, but I would like the originals as they are what I grew up watching. The Original Triology with both versions would be a definate day one buy for me. Heck, even with the sub-par prequels, this will still most likely be a day one buy (depends on price).

Just saw the headline and it made my day. Finally, the official announcement! Two of the "big three" trilogies (Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones) will be on blu.

I see this set coming in possibly 7th or 8th in all-time blu-ray sales, maybe a bit higher depending on how much people want SW on blu-ray in 2011.

If there was a set that was just both versions of the OT, then that could break records. Being a saddled with the PT will up the cost and probably keep some people from buying the set until both trilogies are released seperately.

I would be interested in seeing what would sell more: the 6-film set that includes only the 2004 Original Trilogy or a 3-film set that includes only the theatrical Original Trilogy.
