Well, if they were originally good enough to be projected on a giant movie screen at a resolution of at least 4x greater than 1080p, then my guess is they still look okay.

Idk, the increased resolution on the DVD made the hanger bay matte painting in ROTJ look atrocious amd stand out look a sore thumb. I can't imagine what it will look like on Bluray. If they replaced the matte with a digital background I wouldn't complain in the slightest, because that was an awful matte painting to begin with.

I'm betting the matte paintings will look pretty bad, but no use worrying about it, because there's nothing that can be done. Almost all shots with compositing (which make up the majority of a Star Wars film) will look worse than non-composited shots. The more composting/effects the worse the shot will look. (This is assuming they're scanning a composited negative, digitally composited shots will look a lot better) |

Oh for Christs sakes c'mon guys.
The official SW website has information and a screen shot that illustrates they specifically FIXED that particular shot. ![]() "A dramatic example of this came up in the 2004 DVD release, with the dimming of the lightsaber cores throughout the trilogy, even to the point where Luke's lightsaber aboard the Millennium Falcon shifted from blue to green in Episode IV. We're trying to get back to the intention of the original film experience," says Huebler. That's really what's going on with the lightsabers. You want that hot white core, and it was just right for film, but on video, that was dampened. Issues such as these have been corrected..." Why on earth are you guys buying that this leak or these pics are the real deal? I have no clue why all these horrid screen caps are showing up. Maybe it's a weird joke or something. LoL...ILM would look like complete idiots if the blu-ray turned out bad, especially now that they have openly come out and said that they fixed the issues. I know the matte painting you speak of, and yes it is dreadful. The quality of matte paintings and/or their composites was often up and down. Sometimes it worked. Sometimes it didn't. Usually, it's when the only real-life, physical aspect of the shot is simply an actor is usually when its at its worst. Sometimes, even in the prequels and even newer films, there are often a few shots where the actors simply seem to pop from their surroundings, instead of interacting with their environments. Matte paintings progressed digitally throughout the years, correcting one major aspect to make them appear more natural: the fact that they could animate them. For whatever reason, when you see a still image with nothing in it that would naturally move, you still know its a still image. The establishing shot of the hanger also reveals the matte line, which is obvious. |

With the original photo-chemical processes, each time an element was added and another pass taken, the shot degraded. Sometimes, effects artists would shoot in 70mm to help counteract this. I'm not quite sure how they handled this on the original trilogy. if you study up on old school effects, you'll all sort of neat tricks. Force perspective shots using models, for example. They would built a model for some sort of set extension. Build it accurately and place it before the camera and focus it just right. Many times, you wouldn't even know it. This was done in shots of Aliens and Poltergeist. There is a pretty cool and informative magazine on the subject, called Cinefex. It's still around, but they've been around since the early 80s. In fact, I think ESB was one of their firsts issues, if not the first. They often include incredible behind the scenes photos. |

All they did was change the hue from the pic (posted on the same site) with the green saber. Other the saber colour, the pics are identical. This would not be the case if the pictures were from a different transfer. That being said, I do believe the green has been adjusted, however I'm not expecting that entire sequence to look even close to that picture. |

Mock up or not it's been stated that it's been fixed as well as many other things.
Meaning wth is the deal with that other screen cap supposedly from the blu-ray? Obviously it can't be legit. |
