Lucasfilm releases are always priced quite well. So what you suggest sounds about right.

I'm watching the original trilogy right now on SpikeHD and they look fantastic, no doubt the blu-ray's will look even better...lots better. This set is gonna sell tons of blu-ray players next fall. Hopefully the Indiana Jones boxset is still coming out later this year.

Beast,

For the last few years, I was also in your camp about not ever releasing them. But, in this last year, I've soften on that. Granted, I still greatly prefer the special editions. But, I'd like to see them on there for no other reason than historical purposes and so the fanbase can finally put this argument, this crux they have against Lucas to bed.

Look at the specs of the DVDs, Star Wars has had some pretty significant special features attached to the films. It seems that this box set will go even further than the DVDs. All that's really missing, for completist sake, is the theatrical versions.

I just want the conversation to change on Star Wars. I think it would change about 90% of the conversation if he did include them.

Hopefully, before Lucas leaves this world, he'll relent and finally include them the right way...because the guy really has done way more good than bad...in my eyes.

I'm willing to bet that this is at least a 9 disc set.

Gary Kurtz was the real genius not Lucas. Just look at how the franchise went downhill after TESB.

Kurtz wasn't the genius. Movin' on.

BillyJack,

Actually, and I think this was at least 3 years back, but I had read that the supplement material on the Blu Ray will be different from the DVDs...meaning anything that showed up on the DVDs might not show up on the Blu Rays.

From what I had read, and I think it was Bill Hunt who reported on some of the rumblings he had heard, the supplement material on the Blu Ray would be totally new, and even more comprehensive than the DVDs.

Now, that may have change but again, I vividly remember reading that the material on the DVD would not make it on Blu Ray.

Hence the reason I never sold mine off.

Well I for one do not care what they cost, even if I am still out of work when this set comes out, I will just sell every other Blu Ray I own to pay for it.

Don't know, don't care. I buy all my movies from the US and UK. It's cheaper and faster and i get better releases out of it too. So i will have mine on release day or earlier, thanks to Axel Music They don't care much about Blu-Ray over here. Just standard releases and if your lucky, you get treatet to a slipcover. They have also started to leave out english subtitles for some reason. The only danish Blu-Rays i buy are Disney classics and maybe pixar movies that are region locked in the US so my family can watch them.

A must buy for me..even without the original versions of the OT. Some of the changes don't bother me. Other changes/additions annoy me greatly but I still love the movies.

TPM is the only one that I have a hard time watching.

Um, yeah?

Besides that, looks like I'll give away my Star Wars DVD collection with this puppy! I can't wait to hear the Death Star battles in lossless surround sound.

I hope the force is strong with this one....

When the original trilogy was released on DVD I was assigned to write an article on the release and (through a total fluke and misunderstanding on Fox's part) found myself chatting on the phone with George Lucas's right-hand man.

I took him to task on the quality of the original theatrical cuts on the DVDs (advance word out of Europe was the transfers were not great). He told me that the theatrical cuts were only a SPECIAL FEATURE on the discs so they were under NO obligation to do any restoration work.

So they looked around for the best quality transfers already available for the theatrical cuts and decided on the LaserDisc transfers, and it was those transfers that were ported onto the DVDs.

Lucas had initially been reluctant to include the theatrical cuts because he felt they were part of a work in progress that was finally completed with the special editions. Indeed with the VHS release in the late 1990s it was widely reported that those VHS tapes would be the absolute last opportunity to own the original theatrical cuts.

Don't shoot the messanger, I am just saying that the chances of getting any restoration work in the theatrical cuts is pretty much nil. It pains me too because I want to see Han shoot first on Blu-ray.

As long as Hayden Christensen is featured at the end of RoTJ, and the original cuts, or at least a special edition cut without him, isn't featured on the disc, I will never buy this.

George Lucas is filthy rich. Don't tell me it is an issue of money in terms of restoring the original cuts.
