it's funny how he says anything is too expensive! he's a millionaire who can afford really anything! am i right? i also would LOVE to see the rest of the Bond films on Blue Ray. THX is used in a LOT of different films nowadays. Lucas Created that YEARS ago. i'm sure each studio that uses it pays him a HUGE sum of money. plus from all the money he makes working with Steven Speilberg.

& the sales of everything Star wars etc.. it's beyond stupid IF he can't afford it. yet he can afford creating new technology? now answer me this,

what would be uh cheaper? well we all know putting the Bond Series on blue ray would be cheaper. so that's a given. ya know?

I hope Van Ling does the Blu-ray menus. His work on the Star Wars DVDs was fantastic!

I wonder if Van is still "Banned from the Ranch" LOL

I actually think at some point studios will have to do what they did with VHS, or at least to some degree, phase out DVD.
It's a major step in that direction, but yeah, I think you're definitely right. As big as Star Wars is, there would also need to be a lot more catch-up done on the vast MGM catalogue, for one thing, and I believe it will ultimately take an industry-forced phase-out to get the masses off of DVD.

This is still the best blu-ray news I have ever heard. (Now, if we could just get them cracking on Extended cuts of LotR...)

Sorry if this has been asked and answered a dozen times already, but will the OT be the 1997 versions or the more recent incarnations that feature Mcdiarmid in Empire and Hayden Christensen at the end of Jedi?

Actually, it's not technically going to be the versions from 2004. Remember, for Episode I, Yoda will be digital instead of the puppet.

I except subtle changes between the six films, with the Yoda change being the biggest...I think.

Yeah!

I forgot about Yoda. They may surprise us all and make Yoda digital in ESB and ROTJ. THAT would upset A LOT of fans though! Although they could claim he was just "cleaned up" and not ALL digital!

We'll see!

Now that is a change I am looking forward to. I hate the Yoda puppet from TPM.

DarkDune,

Um, no. Even Lucas has said that he won't make Yoda digital in Episodes V and VI. They will remain in puppet form.

The only reason Yoda wasn't digital in Episode I was because ILM didn't think they could nail him perfectly. Even Oz wanted Lucas to do Yoda digitally in Episode I. Between all the other stuff they had to create from scratch from a visual effects standpoint, I understand why Lucas just did a puppet. Yoda would've been too hard.

I also expect that the matte paintings in Episode II to get an upgrade. Considering that was the first film they shot digitally all the way through, some of the matte paintings, even for 2002, weren't up to par in that film. I expect some of those to be redone.

Honestly, I just don't see him doing that much work on the originals in this set. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if the majority of the work is done on the prequels. I think the originals will be tinkered with to fix the color timing and other effects that they never got around to or screwed up in the '04 editions. But, to expect more enhancements that are totally new compared to the '04 boxset? I don't see it.

They kept Yoda as a puppet to avoid upsetting fans by re-making a familiar character. They failed, because the puppet looked like crap, even though it was just a refurbished copy of one of the old ESB puppets. Digital Yoda fits a lot better with TPM. That should be a big improvement.

I know it won't happen, but I really wish they would surprise us all and re-do all the voice work for Jar-Jar Binks.

Grandpa Humpty Dumpty Ghost never made any sense. If Obi-Wan can manifest not cut in half, and Anakin can manifest with intact limbs, no scars, and hair... then it's silly to assume that as luminous beings they forced to conform to their previous "crude matter" forms. Anakin would manifest as the man he remembers himself being, not as the walking corpse that he was trapped in due to the machines that kept him alive for 20+ years.
Honestly, wouldn't it make more sense for Anakin to change himself into a friendly father figure, than some young guy who's around the same age as Luke?

court,

That's also part of the reason as well. But make no mistake, Lucas wanted Yoda digital in Episode I from the beginning. They just couldn't make it work.

I'm happy we finally have an official announcement from G. Lucas! Don't really care if it's one version or the other as long ass the PQ & AQ are at least 4.5!

Friendly father figure? What we see at the end of ROTJ is his last form before he got disfigured.

Watch "The Chosen One" featurette on the Revenge of the Sith DVD. About 8 or so minutes in they show the "Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate" scene from Phantom Menace... Yoda is now all digital! And ILM have done a very impressive job integrating digital Yoda into the movie!

Which is funny....

Considering the Yoda puppet was made from a mold from one of the originals.

Just something clearly got lost in the mold translation. It really really looks bizarre.

Why? It's not like he's gonna be hanging around and teaching Luke to play catch.

He's a ghost. And there's also the possibility that if he's hoping to reunite with Padme in whatever afterlife exists on the other side, that he'd probably want to look like someone she remembers as well.

It also fits with Obi-Wan's point of view that Anakin did die when he became Darth Vader.

He was basically a walking corpse kept alive by machines that kept Anakin's soul from joining The Force.
