We have to admit that LOTR is a different story: the extended editions did not come 27 years after.

Please. Are you serious? Of course he knew. He just doesn't feel they should be re-released.

I'm sure he felt the LD masters would do. The OOT fans obviously felt otherwise.
It's a shame he even released those. But at least you have the unfinished films on DVD in some format.

The original versions are as valid as the SEs, they worked beautifully for a good 20 years.

Quit that "whiny fanboys" crap. It is getting stale.
Just calling a Sith a Sith. Given how much "Lucas Must Die" comments and other crap I've seen from people over the years ever since the Special Editions and Prequels came out, I grow tired of people who think their personal wants should come first over what the creator desires.

It's not just the Fanboys that dont agree its also his fellow peers such as Peter Jackson, Gary Kurtz, Ridley Scott and Spielberg that have all stated that the Originals should be released. Also the majority of Film critics such as Ebert, Roeper and Maltin have also stated it is wrong to alter film history without preserving what was released back in the day.

Personally for me I will just continue on with what I have boot fan edits and hope I see a HD transfer someday. Georgie just likes to continue raping his orginal fan base. Even if I liked the 1997 changes you cant buy them seperatley you have to buy those jacked up 2004 versions with that crap called the prequel trilogy.

I haven't been whining, I have hardly posted in this thread. I have calmly stated my opinion and said that the OOT will most likely come out on Blu-ray in a future double dip. That's it. Feels like I'm in a room of nerds taking out their agressions from years of bullying.

I guess I'm one of those rare people who are not screaming for the OT release of episodes 4-6, while at the same time I would like the EE's of LOTR.

Then again, with Star Wars now on the horizon, I could give a rat's buttock about LOTR EE.

And yet they don't have any real say in the matter either.

And who cares what a bunch of movie critics have to say? Especially Roger Ebert.

Heh. Going on and on about how the original versions should be released...

And yet you admit right there to owning "BOOTLEG FAN EDITS".

Hypocritcal much? "I want the movies as they originally were released.... but for now I'll enjoy my illegal copies that contain versions that are not the original cuts. But are recut versions by someone who doesn't even own the material". I think you've officially lost any right to complain about the SE release.

BTW, I happen to consider the Prequels to be better films than the Original trilogy. Crap indeed.

Also, nobody is being raped. That is always the most asinine comment I ever see about Star Wars.

Yeah, but it's been all about whining since the beginning of this thread.

Yet he still manages to manifest like they do, after his body is burned on the pyre.
Same with Qui-Gon, his body didn't vanish too, he was the first Jedi to have this ability (Lucas mentioned this in an interview). Though we never see him, we heard his voice when Anakin killed the Sand People.

What's even more interesting in this argument is that fans "technically" don't want the theatrical versions either.

Case in point, Luke's lightsaber on the Falcon in Episode IV. No matter which version you watch, it was never right. Yet, fans have always wanted that fixed.

But, that technically wouldn't be the "theatrical version" of Star Wars would it?

There are mistakes within the Original Trilogy that fans, for decades, have always wanted fixed properly. Matte lines and boxes anyone?

Yeah, you always see them say they should fix the lightsabers and the matte boxes and lines.

Yet anything beyond that brings on the rancor of "ORIGINAL THEATRICAL VERSIONS ONLY..... RAAAR!!"

I think Lucas should put a documentary on the upcoming set that focuses on all the different variations of the original Star Wars films between 1977 and 2011. Just so we can see exactly what has officially been altered.

Beast,

Same thing with the speeder on Tatoonie. Lucas finally fixed "the yellow, grease look" to hide the wheels and nobody says a thing...yet, that's not technically the theatrical version.

And what I find even more interesting is that it's really only Episode IV that Lucas has done the most work on...and for good reason. Episode IV was dated the minute Episode V was released. You want to talk about quantum leap in practical and visual effects. Just watch those two films back to back in their original form.

To me, it makes total sense to go back and rework Episode IV. In the '04 boxset, he barely touched the last two.

Speaking of Qui-Gon...

I would love it if Lucas filmed the Force Ghost Qui-Gon scene for RotS.

As far as I recall, it wasn't shot cause of Liam Neeson's motorcycle accident making him unavailable.

Easy enough to fix now though. Unless Liam Neeson is being all Alec Guiness about Star Wars now adays.

Beast,

He is...it won't happen...nor should it. It ruins Obi-Wan's surprise when he faces Vader in Episode IV.
