Touch of Evil(UK)
Pulp Fiction
Ben-Hur
12 Angry Men

And those are just older films off the top of my head that are either scheduled for later this year or almost assuredly due out by 2012. That doesn't include newer movies or the occasional surprise catalog title announcement from a major studio or Criterion. Believe me, Blu-ray doesn't need Star Wars.

(BTW, is it true that Lucas shot Episodes II and III in 1080p? If so, not only was that extremely short-sighted, but that means the Blu-ray format is the last hurrah for those 2 flicks.)

This builds on the report from the Times by further confirming that the other changes (the Krayt dragon call, the Ewoks, etc.) are also true.
And yet a lot of the horrible lightsaber shots remained untouched.

I really wish I knew Lucasfilm's logic behind what gets "updated" and "fixed" and what doesn't.

The "No " in Return of the Jedi isn't a bad change as far as I am concerned. It does not change the scene one bit. It's not like they replaced Vader with a CGI effect and changed the whole dynamic of the scene, or anything.

The music and the actions on screen are still the main elements that make it great. Was the "No!" needed? Not at all. Does it ruin anything or make it worse? Not at all. But I have to say the overreaction to this is amusing as hell.

That's rich. We hope fans will give us all their money before deciding that we've further shat all over the classic films that are the OT.

NNNNNNOPE!

(Well, it now appears that they couldn't pry him out from the rocks!) Do I need to hear Vader yell "NOOO" in RotJ? Because obivously his non-verbal gestures show his turn from the Dark Side and the Emperor. Seriously, it's no longer a sci-fi epic for all ages. He made the prequels for Katie and Jet, and he made them for kids, and I'm just too old for this $--- now.
I must say I really like your avatar. Lucas' changes have reached such Frankenstein proportions that he does remind me of Michael Jackson. Is the nose about to fall off?

Personally, I'll still get the whole saga box set, but there's absolutely no question now that he's lost it. It's one thing to fix issues, even improve if you have the mental where-with-all to make appropriate and tasteful choices, but Lucas has shown without question that he tends to have moments of bad taste.

I'm going to have to put more into what Kurtz says than you. I hope you understand why.

Lucas himself has said he didn't want to flood the market with content because it devalues the Star Wars brand.

- TESB: Wampa's arm fixed;

- ROTJ: new entrance door for Jabba's place, a Dug (Sebulba's species) can be seen inside Jabba's place, Ewok eyes that blink, Vader/Luke lightsaber cross fixed, Vader says no;

- new 6.1 audio mixes for all 3 films.

That's s good point. One thing this leak definitely can't be is an old Blu-ray master from Lucasfilm. It's either the real deal, or the prank to rule them all

The NO! is definitely the WORST change it does not make sense he would even say that

But looking at this it looks like the good outweights the bad in the changes and some of the changed definitely improves the movies

And they even fixed those awful mistakes in the 2004 DVDs. The Phantom Menace's Yoda was digital, Vader's lightsaber was red, even that weird lightsaber crossing in Return of the Jedi was fixed... Everything seemed perfect...
Hell! That box set even had some new amazing deleted scenes and interviews and other bonus stuff!

But then, the day of 30th August came... with that horrorful rumour about Darth Vader shouting "NOOO!" when he is about to murder the Emperor and save his son from a certain death. Just wow... Of course I imagined at first that it was just a cleverly made fake video, but everyone seemed so sure that it was the real deal. Then someone posted that fatal link to that article where Lucasfilm actually confirms it.

First it's like a dream come true... Later it's like your worst nightmare...
And if speaken honestly, I myself don't mind ANY of the 2004 changes to the Original Trilogy, I was ok to 'Greedo shoot first' since it wasn't such a big deal to me. And I even was ok with Hayden as a force ghost at the end of the Return of the Jedi since it made sense to me and it didn't bother me that much.
But this, this I cannot accept. It doesn't tie anything together, I unfortunately can't say that it doesn't make sense, but it ruins the greatest scene in Return of the Jedi. I'm sorry Mr. George Lucas, but you just ruined even the Original Trilogy for me.

Lucky that I didn't pre-order it, so I don't have to cancel anything, but I won't be ordering it anymore. Damn you Lucas, you just ruined the blu-ray version of Star Wars for me, and I guess I have settle for 2004 DVDs.

Yeah, I'm done with Star Wars Blu-Ray version, unless Lucasfilm makes a statement, where they say that Darth Vader's "NOOO!" won't be in the Return of the Jedi. But that's like 5% possible, since ultimately George doesn't care for fans opinions. Ultimately, he just tampers his movies as much as he wants to, no matter how stubid his ideas are.

And before someone gets butthurted from my post I say: I mean no offense to anyone with my post. This is only my opinion of this matter, and you have to just deal with it.

**** you George, **** you.

I felt the same way when George put in Luke screaming in ESB it was ridiculous, now he goes and destroys another moment in movie history
so maybe if were loud enough he'll take it out like Lukes scream was taken out.

I still can't help but just find this all amusing. We knew there would be controversy. It's Star Wars. But this...

Since I don't really care about the changes as I view the SE as a different entity all together, I'll still be picking this up upon release date. And as been mentioned before, the PQ is quite fantastic on these sets. I've seen the rips of Ep 4 & 6 and the detail/clarity is top notch. Even the fan-editers agree with that. Which just means the de-specialized fan-edits will look even better now.

It turns Vader back into the whiney wuss he was in the PT. Might as well put cgi eyes on him and make him scream "yippe" when throwing the Emp. down the shaft.

Thanks Robert. Made it myself this morning. They say plastic surgery is addictive and you're never satisifed with just one procedure.

Star Wars is Lucas' "image" - and he keeps altering it... naturally for the worse.
