It's become something of a necessary convention but my fingers itch every time I type that.

Yeah, but the crawl I believe had "A NEW HOPE" added when Star Wars was re-released in theaters in 1979.

Nope. It's a sign of respect for someone and their work. Simple as that.

Just like like Capitalizing their name or "Director" or any other form of title they carry.

Yeah, one that you made up. I've never previously heard anyone say anything about this being a standard and widely recognized sign of respect. Has anyone else here heard of this previously?

Not trying to argue, just inform.

Seeing them in-store does not mean they are still "in print"

I remember the announcement late 2007 stating that the production of these DVDs would soon end. So whatever new stock is floating around in stores out there is it. No more are being made, therefore it's out of print.

But that doesn't mean that stores won't have any new stock left.

No its not like capitalizing names. Proper use of the english language mandates that person's name be capitalized.

Capitalizing "Creator" - a word that is used mostly for the invocation of God is ridiculous and the religious underpinning of capitalizing the word "Creator" cannot be denied.

The only way I can "punish" filmmakers for this sorta nonsense is w/ my wallet. I've purchased the OT at least 4 times (which is 2 times too many as is). I won't be doing so a 5th.. I guess I'm just not a fan. Wake me when Lucas pulls his head outta his a$$, and stops fu¢king w/ these films (I wont be checking back, so Lucas geeks can comment back all they want, (like Lucas, himself) I don't care).

I have been trying to get ahold of the Star Wars Laserdiscs for years. I don't buy online, so I'm limited to Craigslist, Kijiji and whatnot...

For some reason, people seem to think they can get $50+ for the set of three movies It's pretty ridiculous.

I've replied to some of these ads and sentimental value is always given as a reason for the high price, then why put it up for sale? Like, really...

I wouldn't want to pay more than $6-7 per disc, let alone $50 for the three. I'd be willing to shell out around $30-40 for the Definitive Set, but people want about $100 for that. Although lately i've seen the price begin to drop below $60.

I already own the 2006 limited edition DVDs with the original theatrical versions, but I think I'll pick the trilogy up again - since they are OOP and just in case my DVDs don't play anymore for whatever reason lol. I just want to make sure that I have the UOT on DVD. I'll probably pick up the Blu-ray too, but I hate so many changes already.

The true fan hates the thing that they are a fan of more than anyone else, The essence of fandom is disgust and disappointment.

That's one opinion on it. I don't share it. Deal with it. I'll capitalize Creator, Director, or King if I feel it's deserved.

And I don't care what the UK has to say about anything. They stick unnecessary "U's" ito words all the time.

Uh... so?

Would you colorize Citizen Kane and litter it with CGI to spice it up for a "new generation"? Fix the Mona Lisa's smile? Straighten the Leaning Tower of Pisa?

Since when does a piece of art have some responsibility or obligation to become relevant for each new generation?

"You know, this Last Supper painting is suuuuuper depressing and I mean, look at the brushstrokes. You could do a way more precise image with computers and stuff. Let's redo this, make sure everyone is smiling, and I mean... the whole religion thing is really kind of a bummer, let's just make this guy in the middle NOT Jesus. Let's make him... I dunno, Robert Pattinson. He's all the rage with the kids! Also, could they be eating KFC? I know the marketing manager there and I'm sure he'd be down to do some cross-promo. Feel me? Yeah baby, pound it. Blow it up!"

The more I think/stew about this, the more I am seriously considering not only abstaining from buying these, but just divorcing myself from the whole Star Wars universe for good. Why get attached to something that can potentially be altered into an unrecognizable mess by the time I'm trying to introduce my kids to it?

An overreaction? I dunno, but I'm not doing it out of anger or anything, I'm just trying to preserve the incredibly fond memories I have of growing up with these movies and I'm sick of Lucas' colossal levels of hypocrisy.

/end rant

I'd do it for anyone, including individuals like Joss Whedon or Christopher Nolan who I find overrated and/or terrible.

So aside from the prequel trilogy, what do you consider a "Good" sci fi and/or action film?

Serenity was everything the PT wasn't. A great story, with interesting characters, fantastic acting and top notch writing/directing. I can actually say that for the entire Firefly series.

And Nolan's films? Yeah, just nevermind, i forgot, it's pointless to argue with you. If you think Whedon or Nolan are terrible filmmakers, there is no accounting for taste with you.

.............

now you're being willfully obtuse. You know damn well nobody ever capitalizes "director" unless its used at the beginning of a sentence, which would be grammatically incorrect and nonsensical in the first place, unless its followed by the directors full name. Stop making up special rules for your idol, nobody is buying any of that.

So we're making up our own English rules now, are we?
