I don't care why Jar Jar was created. Though it was more to see if they could pull off a CGI main character.

He's no more "toyetic" than Chewbacca. But Chewbacca certainly doesn't earn similar Fan-Rage.
I wouldn't mind jar jar if his voice and speech wasn't so annoying.

This just gave me a thought... what if Lucas is purposely diluting the awesomeness of the original trilogy to make the prequel trilogy seem less bad by comparison?

Sort of "bringing it in line", so to speak.

Re: a certain poster who shall not be named from this point forward... Inception "laughably bad", The Phantom Menace "the best film in the saga", Jar Jar Binks "speaks to [him] emotionally"... yeah, no offense, but that's a person I never need to speak to or hear from again because we will never agree on anything. Haha.

Might want to check the films out again. Especially TPM. He plays a vital role in the narrative.

Without his part in the story, the Trade Federation succeds in their plans and the Jedi's fail. Simple as that.

It's an exploration of the whole "Symbiotic Relationshhip" of characters in the films and TPM especially.

That regardless of his flaws, that he's not the "Pathetic Lifeform" that Obi-Wan considers. And is as important as anyone else.

So I take it you didn't get the memo?

http://redlettermedia.com/plinkett/s...hantom-menace/

I find it funny that you would reference a rifftrax for Inception, stating that one would "never look at it in the same way again", when all rifftrax is doing is making light, even immature (though still funny) jokes that are comprised of pop culture references and juvenile insults.

Meanwhile, the Star Wars film which you claim is "the best of the bunch" (and you are entitled to that opinion), has been verbally decimated by the Plinkett review. The basic principles of movie making/script writing 101 are put up against the inane plot, the poorly written characters, and the atrocious dialogue and acting. It's not just a brilliant piece of satire that surpasses anything rifftrax has ever done, it's an intrinsic and analytical dissection of the awfulness that is The Phantom Menace.

It's ironic that you throw a rifftrax on Inception out there and try to claim that it makes the film look pathetic (when the jabs it takes are topical at best), when the Plinkett review of The Phantom Menace reshaped the way the public looks at the PT. There's never been a stronger case for shortcomings of the PT than the Plinkett reviews.

I've been neutral, at best, in my regard for the PT. I'm indifferent and take them as mindless eye candy. I feel they have some worthwhile moments, but when watching someone like Plinkett illustrate why the PT is all wrong, it's hard to deny the facts that are there for anyone to see.

Either you acknowledge the truth, or you've got blinders on to the world. In either case, it's your opinion and more power to you for sticking by it.

DISCLAIMER: While I think Inception is an excellent piece of entertainment, I don't hold it and Nolan in the high regard that a lot of movie geeks do these days (I still think Insomnia and Memento are his best films).

Anyway, Beast, don't try to lay something like an Inception rifftrax on people and claim that it makes the film look bad when your favorite Star Wars film has already been demolished in a far more accomplished manner by a satirical piece of film criticism that goes above and beyond to reveal TPM for what it really is...a putrid stain on the Star Wars mythology.

Maybe what he really meant to tell you was Jar Jar just isn't as effective as C-3PO and R2. And no, threepio was not as annoying as Jar-Jar, Threepio can actually be taken seriously at times.

If that's meant to be a comparion, you should note that I'm not stating something that is factually wrong as a fact.

I'm simply offering my opinion on the films. Not arguing that Kevin Bacon isn't in Footloose. Nothing more.

Though from a certain point of view... Kevin Bacon isn't in Footloose. The 2011 version anyway.

Funny you should mention the Plinkett reviews, because Beast has dismissed them dozens of times as nothing but mindless fanboy ravings even though he's never watched them, (oh wait, excuse me, he's watched a few moments), he's been called out on it a dozen times, and yet still continues to call them worthless.

Not at all. Because I can't stomache even listening to the Red Letter Media guys.

I've seen a few moments, nothing more. But I've heard all the complaints about TPM. More than once.

But I don't care. That's their opinion of the film/films. I will always consider it my favorite film in the Saga.

insomnia is by FAR his best film-

then memento- then maybe even following-

i do enjoy all of his films- i respect insomnia the most because he tells a story straight up with no gimmicks or excluding information from the audience which he does in his other films (besides batman beings)

+100!

Excellent post.

To be clear, I don't think speaking against Inception is blasphemy, but I think it's a terrific movie that only received backlash in the hipster-ish "it's just too popular!" way that everything popular seems to warrant hate these days. Memento is probably Nolan's most original film, but Inception is pretty goddamn good when you consider that it's essentially a summer blockbuster action movie. Compare it to Transformers and GI Joe, typical summer movie fare, and it looks even better.

Then we have The Dark Knight, and fanboys who have never seen a single Coppola, Scorsese, Kubrick, Kurosawa, Hitchcock etc. film calling it "the best movie ever!!!!!11" can be a little irritating, but I think it might be in the running for most well-paced and tightly directed movie of all time. Not the most influential, important, artistic, original, etc., but it succeeds at pure breakneck entertainment in a way that few movies can even dream of.

I do agree that dark knight is a well paced movie, having said that. I still prefer batman begins.
