I don't get the uproar about Vader yelling NO in ROTS. From what I interpret, he's newly been transformed into a Sith Lord/machine hybrid after suffering through massive trauma and surgery. Then he finds out the only thing good and pure left in his life that he loved and who was carrying his child, Padme, whom his love for and desire to protect her from his vision of her dying was a major reason he had the will to keep living despite near certain death from said trauma, was indeed dead. Not just that though, in fact, he learns it is HE himself who killed her. I think the NO is not only justified here, but very human. Likewise, the NO at the end of ROTJ is also justied and human. Afterall, who in that situation wouldnt scream NO you sick bastard let go of my son. It shows Vaders humanity had returned.
Both scenes work. In ROTS, Vaders loss of the last thing he truly loved dies, and his anger over this fact completes his journey to the Darkside. The scene is so powerful, as he is screaming NO in agony and disbelief, his anger is so palpable, it is lierally destroying everything in the room around him, while the Emperor grins in delight at his successfully turning Vader to the darkside. Fast forward to ROTJ, now the Emperor is visibly angry over his failure to turn Luke over to the darkside. Now we see Vader's return to the light as he saves his son "NO" not again, I wont lose the only good thing in my life this time, "NO," his return to the Jedi way complete, compassion and humanity restored, you will not kill my son.

Artistically? No. But I've contributed thousands and thousands of dollars over the years. Star Wars has been a part of my life for my ENTIRE life.

We don't need to watch the "entire saga" to know if the changes do or don't work. We don't need to see them in context. We KNOW the context. Most of us could recite the context backwards and forwards. We just want the original theatrical version of the films.

For myself and (clearly) many people out there, this is critical mass and also the straw that broke the tauntauns back.

Right. If he'd release the UOT in 1080p and remastered on Blu-ray everyone would love him to death. But he does not. He does not give us a choice which version to watch on Blu-ray and that's why he sucks.

It doesn't even matter what the change is, why it's there, how it plays out when you watch the whole movie/saga. I couldn't live with myself if I would just trot along. Star Wars is to dear to me and I have to much respect for George Lucas. These movies are so packed with ideas, imagery and wisdom... I don't get you guys AT ALL!

But is it his films, he can do what he wants, blah, blah, blah... Even Coke got it right when they went back to classic.

Maybe this is what we need for King Flannel to open up his eyes! I would think he would release the UOT before going back and taking out all of the stupid changes he has recently made and make something other than a half assed SE. You can not even really call it an SE anymore... this is SW as we know it (as of today.)

This BS floating around going on about DIRECTORS INTENT and THEY ARE HIS FILMS HE CAN DO WHAT HE WANT need to be reminded that Kersh and Marquand directed one a peice.
Maybe Marquand did not want blinking Ewoks, maybe Kersh didn't want Hoth to look blue.....
But never mind hey, Lucas can do all the grave dancing in the world because he gave us Howard the duck.

Right back at ya.

You are one of a very few not complaining, but complaining about those who do. Go buy the set and stop feeling the need to defend flannel man. I'll pass till he gets it right!

I was looking forward to the changes. What things would he fix? Would he put the Greedo scene back to the way it should be? Would the color timing issues be corrected? Would he update the awful 1997 CGI in the Sarlaac pit? Then the news comes out. Not only do these things STILL have all the aforementioned issues he's manage to create over the last 14 years, but he's now added bizarre sounds, strange continuity errors (R2's magic rocks) and made a joke out of possibly the most powerful moment in the saga.

I completely agree. It manages to humanize even more than the moment already did and also add symmetry to the end of ROTS when he is "born" as Vader and now to the end of ROTJ when Vader is "destroyed" and Anakin returns. I really find it quite moving and can't wait to see it with the film proper. I also imagine it syncs up better with the final product than it does with that short clip.

On the plus side, at least Vader doesn't say, "Yippeeeeeee!"
Hm. Maybe that'll be on YouTube.

I'm keeping my BN pre-order. By the time it arrives, reviews will be in. Then I'll decide to open or return it.

WOW!!

I think close to 100 pages were added since I was last here yesterday morning. No way I am reading it all, beside I am pretty sure it's nothing but the same old arguments back and forth

15 more days of waiting before I getting my set and watching it on Blu-ray, cannot wait.

In that instance, it's not the fact that he says it, it's how it's said and portrayed - so lame and unconvincing. When I first saw RotS at the flicks, at that moment the entire audience in a packed cinema burst out laughing. There were cat-calls of "Oh, come on!!" and "Give us a break!!" all over the room. The portrayal by Lucas/Christensen/Jones falls far short of the moment.

Yes, but unbelievably dumbed down. Everybody already gets what's happening, what's going through Vader's mind and spirit, without a sound from Vader himself, and the scene is more powerful for it. Adding these two "No!"s in is like Lucas saying out loud from off-camera, "Do you see? Do you understand how he's upset?" It's intrusive on the scene and patronising to the audience's intelligence. It's more of what Lucas began with "Yippeee!!" and Jar-Jar Binks: rejigging what was once mythic science fiction and turning it into lolly for not-very-bright seven year olds.

That's the mindset I was talking about! You hate Star Wars for 14 years now and want it restored to its pre-prequel form. You blindly hate any update not because you have good reason but because it differs from the version you saw as a child. If Lucas would just randomly change stuff to annoy fans he could have gone much, much further. With todays technology he could replace Jabba, the Rancor, Yoda and all the Ships with CGI - BUT HE WOULD NEVER DO THAT! He does a beautiful job in synching the trilogies and adapting the movies to each new format without undermining the integrity of each movie. For that the man has my respect!

So you are saying it you only watched the OT not the SE's and then watched the prequels, then you would not know the movies are related to each other???

And that Lucas said in the same speech: The public’s interest is ultimately dominant over all other interests.
