Thank You Joliefan... for posting that article.

I'm sure this will not bold well (myself included) with a great generation of loyal fans of the UOT

I mean, the "Noooooo" at the end of Episode III has been widely mocked and criticized for how terrible it sounds and out of character it seems for Vader. While Episode III was generally the most praised film of the prequels, this was one of the much lesser aspects of it. Lucas cannot be THAT oblivious to the criticism of this. I find it hard to believe that he felt that Vader saying "Noooooo" in ROTJ was some big necessary change and is something that was lacking and completely missing from the film or whatever.

Not to mention that aside from a very select few shots, for the most part the lightsaber effects haven't been fixed/updated. Even prior to the problems caused by the 2004 color timing, was still one of the effects that seemed the most outdated throughout the trilogy (especially in ANH). This became even more obvious after the prequels started being released and the lightsabers in those films looked pretty much perfect. This is one of the few changes that people seem to be requesting (from PT/Saga fans to those who would like to see the UOT released, but would still like to see this done in the updated vesions), and it's the one change that he didn't make..... and let's face it, it's not like it would have been a difficult one to pull off.

I almost think that he's doing some of this stuff just to cause contraversy and jerk people around at this point.

I don't think this is far off. Judging by some of his comments, he has nothing but disdain for his nerdy fans. It's like he's getting even with us for taking shots at him, "bringing the ball home with him" as it were. "Oh yeah? Don't like my changes? HAH suck it, how do you like this?" I don't think we're far off from a scene with Han playing 1 on 1 basketball against Jabba to pay off his debt.

Man, compared to this, my green tinted LOTR EE is seeming pretty goddamn awesome right now, so that's one concrete benefit of this new "Saga" release.

First, I must say 'sorry' to the ones who told us that the torrents were in fact the blu-ray rips. Seriously, good job

Second, I'll keep my DD pre-order, $65 is good enough for the set.

Third, the respect I had for Lucas is completely gone. Yes, I support him making changes to HIS movies, but I cannot support him not releasing the 'unaltered original' versions of the OT as an option.

The 'new' changes made do not blend in with the movies, any way you wanna see them; and this is no opinion, is fact. The big entrance to Jabba's Palace looks good, but then they don't change the next scenes perspective. The 'yell' that Obi-Wan does doesn't sound menacing, and Vader screaming those two 'No' sound out of place, extremely unnecessary. Add to those, the silly song at the beginning, or the silly robots and other stuff going on at the entrance of Tatooine in ANH, they just don't blend easily because he's using SFX from the 2000s with movies from the 70s. Period, as easy as that.

Our only hope (no pun intended haha) is to keep complaining and ask for only this: "A new master from a new scan of the original negatives with no modifications whatsoever (except color timing). No new effects, additions. Please release them in a boxset and we'll gladly pay $60 for them. Thanks" Lucas wants money, let us show him that we are ready to pay for OUR piece of history.

Still, hoping to catch the PT in HD; that will be the treat.

The Return of the Jedi has always been my favorite Star Wars film. What I'm finding out in this thread is that a lot of people seem to actually really like this film too after years of criticizing it or complaining about the Ewoks.

It's just like when Universal said Jurassic Park was 64 million years in the making!

Although technically they did have to wait for dinosaurs to evolve into dinosaurs, then wait for them to become extinct, then for cinema to be invented (along with CGI and all that over stuff), dinosaurs to be rediscovered, then Michael Crichton to be born, learn to read and write, and write the novel which would inspire the movie they'd spent 64 million years developing....

Is that how Lucasfilm staff bill their working hours?

the basic encode for this source seems to be the same (the premiere broadcast). is it an edited version with added grain and different brightness? because the grain doesnt seem to come along with more detail.

Someone mentioned this about LOTR earlier, but really, I think it's apples to oranges.

The LOTR EEs are almost universally more beloved than the theatricals, and they were cut and edited at roughly the same time. If they went back in and added a bunch of CG musical numbers and nonsense like that to either the LOTR EE in 20 years, or the Shatner/Nimoy era Star Treks, then made previous versions unavailable, THEN you would hear an uproar like you've never heard before.

As it stands, most people SEEM to prefer the unaltered versions. I don't mind a lot of the changes in the 1997 or 2004 eds, the dewbacks, the fixed speeders, etc... but things like Jedi Rocks are just so out of the blue and affect the tone so badly it's almost like a Rick Roll in the middle of a movie.
