I can't remember if I got it at WM or BB. Either way I really like the tin.

As for Jedi, it's been pretty much known for a while that Kershner's AD and Lucas directed the majority of that film...especially the Throne Room sequence.
Nope that's an Internet "Fact". That didn't happen until the last location (Northern California).

I don't know if I would call that the exact same thing, but okay, let's go with that. Obviously these aren't things that the artists (i.e. those who created the original art) intended. For all intensive purposes, the Marvel company overseeing these comics isn't much different than a studio overseeing a movie.

If you don't like the idea of someone other than the creator of the art going back and making changes, then why would you condone what Marvel has done but then not extend the same exception to a studio that owns a movie, decides to go change a movie, but doesn't go through the original director to do it?

WOW!!!!

I am freaking shocked right now, Han saying "I know" is one of the most character-defining, memorable moments in an incredible movie... and I'm reading that Kershner had to struggle with Lucas to get it in there?!

Man, I can't even believe that. I am literally shocked at the kind of poor judgment I'm reading about. I just can't believe that it would even be an issue.

I'm sure if they changed it to "I love you too" the apologists would make a zillion excuses for why it works better for Han's character.

A fine example of how a simple line can make all the difference in the world, a subtlety that is apparently lost on George and a lot of his fans.

That was a rumour from the time ep3 came out, when Yoda says to Obi at the end that he must tell him something about the force or words to those effect

Ford used to change lines all the time and Lucas never noticed.

4.30 onwards

I would agree with that. I actually think Lucas doesn't understand Star Wars anymore. Or, to put it another way, Lucas doesn't understand what made Star Wars so memorable in the first place. Either that, or he doesn't care.

I think one of the big aspects of ANH that made it so special was how it didn't make a big deal out of the fantastical stuff. The movie just followed Luke's story, and you caught glimpses of the fantastical stuff in the background. It took the sci-fi stuff for granted instead of focusing on it. It made the world feel much more real, and interesting.

The Special Editions reversed this in some ways. Like when they enter Mos Eisley, and we have to take a commercial break from the story and show all the silly monsters and robots.

Ford also wanted Han Solo killed off after he got frozen in ESB.

I wonder if Lucas went back and modified the scene in ESB to have Boba Fett say the line, "He's dead - the freezing process failed, mate." in order to achieve the actor's true vision of the film (but was not feasible back at the time due to fans loving the character, but who cares now?) how that would be received. Of course then they would have to go to RotJ and digitally replace all appearances of Han Solo with Jar Jar in order to nicely tie into the prequels. Seeing Jar Jar thaw from a frozen state near the start of RotJ would make as much sense to some as the Hayden ghost change.

It's been very busy already. Once the release hits the market, things will quiet down...it is always that way. By far this is/will be the "busiest" thread ever. Just look at the number of views .

The rest of the stuff I can easily deal with, but those 4 are major, and leave a sour taste in my mouth.
Throw in Han shooting first again and Vader's "bring my shuttle line" restored and I would agree with you completely.

Sigh. Such a shame. I guess I won't be buying the BDs.

The only change from the theatrical versions that actually keeps me from buying again is the color "correction." It just looks terrible. Way oversaturated, blacks are crushed, detail is lost. It looks like a flashy sci-fi movie, whereas the original had a nice, grounded, soft, realistic quality to it.

That will depend on your screen size and viewing distance.

Ummm.. okay... so are you suggesting that there are circumstances under which a lower quality VHS or VCD recording would look better than the DVD version? I really don't see how that makes any sense.
