Every Blu-ray should strive to be presented in similar manners to the Alien Anthology and Blade Runner - which is to say, that every Blu-ray should be COMPLETE. I should have no reason to hold on to my DVDs when I upgrade and I should be in total HD bliss regardless of which version I want to watch.

Original mono/stereo tracks should be included as well, alongside the 5.1 remix. Both the original tracks and the remixes need to be presented in lossless.

These should be the rules. Unfortunately, they are not, which is why Star Wars is not likely to get the vote for Blu-ray of the Year from me.
Close Encounters of the Third Kind also includes the original theatrical version along with the special edition and directors cut. It's like every director besides Lucas says "If a lot of fans want the original version, why not let them have it, it's no big deal" Lucas acts like people complained to death about the originals having bad effects and audio etc and thats why he's changing it, but people absolutely loved those versions and he just doesn't see that. If a fan base told me "we love the original version" I would gladly give it to them.

Obi Wan used the force on him, causing him to miss?

I know it's hard to believe, but there are poeple out there in the real world who just don't care, the majority of consumers consist of these people. Give it up.

It's so close that I can pretend Greedo shoots only because Han shot him - his death causes his muscles to tense up and pull the trigger. Which is why the shot went wide, because he was dead and his blaster moved.

Seriously, that's what I pretend when I watch the Blu-ray clip on youtube.

If I ever wrote/directed/produced a film, I'd be happy to let it lie after releasing it. It would take at least two or three years to do all that and I'd want to move on, like I'm sure most directors would.

Lucas is of a special breed who likes to tinker with things. I have no problem with it if the originals are easily available to people who want them. They're not on Blu-ray yet, but at the very least, they're available on DVD (I just wish they were prettier). But I'll take what I can get.

It just too bad his gun goes off before Han hits Greedo.

Empire seems to be the one that has hardly been touched at all. While they did brighten up the lightsabre cores in a few shots in ROTJ and a couple in ANH, they have completely left the problems in ESB alone. The colour is the same as 2004 with an almost minuscule colour shift that is probably down to encoding, but certainly not due to any form of colour correction, and the lightsabres still look terrible. Now these are full 1080 size

[Show spoiler]

So far it looks like they have altered just 2 shots in ESB, but shots that people would have probably never noticed, while leaving such glaring errors caused by the 2004 transfer alone. Two alterations; the Wampa puppet arm and they added reflections to the window in Cloud City

[Show spoiler]

I just don't understand what they were thinking when they worked on these. Would it have been better to fix all the errors with colour etc, that were only caused by the 2004 master, first before making alterations and adding stuff? Surely that would have made more sense?

Now i've seen that when anyone complains that Lucasfilm are supposed to have fixed the problems with the lightsabres that you get someone coming back and saying stuff like "they never said they were fixing all of the lightsabres only select shots", well that isn't true. These people seem to quote an email KenKraly is supposed to have got from Lucasfilm. During the promotional day at the Ranch here is what was actually said:

Quote:
Other issues we address: You know how things just look different when they go into HD or DVD, just by the nature of how the video treats the color space? A perfect example is in 2004 with the light sabers, how in the original trilogy all of the light sabers sort of dimmed, you lost that really hot, white core. Well, we went back and wanted to really be true to the original intention of the films, so we brightened up the light saber colors and we brought back that hot, white core that was original to the film.

Not one place was it ever mentioned that they only did this in "select" or "a few" shots. That quote implies that they fixed the problems with the cores, but the Blu-Ray rips prove otherwise. Nowhere in ESB have they done that. The sabres are the same way they were in 2004.

I strongly think Lucas will eventually release the UOT. Perhaps all this tinkering and releasing the "GOUT" is a decade(s) long strategy to make people desperate for it. Then when it is released, fully remastered - record sales for Lucasfilm.

If Lucas restores the original version, he has to share half the profits with his ex-wife. So it is possible that, from a business angle, releasing the original versions doesn't make sense for him. It may also be a personal issue. Maybe he just doesn't want his ex-wife getting anymore money from Star Wars.

I agree with 0,01% of the fans that think that this before-memorable scene from the trilogy is actually better. NOW we know what Vader was thinking all along!

Coppola is doing the same

I agree with this 100%. Good points, good post.

Also strange seeing how Han pushes Jabba around, telling him what's what. But yet in RotJ, Han has a completely different demeanor towards Jabba and desperately pleads with him.

So everyone has to suffer because he never paid his wife any attention and was gone all the time durning the ESB/Raiders/Rotj shoots.
