To get you up to speed: you now know about the 'NO!' in fact there are two of them, now Ewok's blink or to be more specific Wicket and a couple of babies do. There's a new carbon de-freeze effect, a new door to Jabba's palace (it's been dubbed the Rancor entrance), a Dug in Jabba's chamber, a few lightsaber effects have been changed, R2 now hides behind rocks that he wouldn't be able to get past in the first place. I think some things are still pink some are still blue and there are new continuity errors galore! I've probably missed a good few as well!

I also think Katie Lucas may not like us anymore, some guys have cancelled their pre-orders, some have now ordered. Someone got hold of a set from Sweden and others turned up on-line.

The deleted scenes from the DVD's aren't included either!

One things for sure.... we're all going to be a lot thinner....

I agree the films are meant for children but as adults we try and re-capture the escapism we felt when we originally watched them. I guess one of the reasons people get so riled up with changes is they can take us away from the escapism we felt as youngsters when we do spot changes to them. The CGI additions can often bring us back to reality and a lot of people don't want that when watching movies from their childhood.

I spotted these earlier they sort of seem creepy to me. I would run the other way if I saw someone wearing one of these with the hood up!

And yeah, Mayhew has a certain body language about him, which is why they made sure to bring him in to the studio for reference for Chewbacca's appearance on The Clone Wars. =)

Ha! I wouldn't be able to suppress my need to laugh if I saw someone on the street with one of those hoodies zipped up!

I think the brightness and contrast would be much better in an actual B&W version though. I think they said they tweaked the levels on The Mist when converting it to B&W for the DVD.

Not to get into this too much as it will derail the thread even more. The resolution in your HDTV is 1980 X 1020 - 2K resolution is 2048×1556 pixels and 4K is 4096×3112 pixels. 4K scans are very expensive and are generally done on well funded restoration efforts. Remember no HDTV can display a greater resolution than 1980 X 1020, thus a 2k scan will yield great results (if properly done). When a full/expensive restoration is done it makes great sense to do it @ 4K to be "future proof". Also, some experts in the field believe in "oversampling". The theory is that something scanned at 4k, "oversampling", then downconverted to 2k will yield a sharper more detailed image .

I'm sure Lucas's friends and family have been reassuring him with these very words during the last few days. While it contains a sliver of truth, it's misleading. In fact, it's an unmitigated copout. The vast vast vast majority of *****ing (I'd estimate 90%) would cease completely if the UOT were made available on blu -- provided it's treated with the respect it deserves.

Were this to happen, this forum, along with thousands of others, would be flooded with overjoyed posts. It'd be like the ewok celebration at the end of Jedi. We'd all be giving virtual hugs to one another, singing "Yub Yub" or "La La La La La" (whichever you prefer) and banging storm trooper helmets like drums.

Most importantly, all would be forgiven as far as Lucas is concerned. Star Wars fans would return to the fold in droves.

I'll definitely be following this a bit more and check out the early reviews. The change to Vader is just.. ugh. Definitely not purchasing this.

Yes, you'd have to play around with the images a great deal to get that 'silver screen' effect. I was surprised how dark they turned out.

It's also amazing how good The Phantom menace will look it's going to be like a whole new film. Lucasfilm should have just bombarded us with prequel images and featurettes because so far I can see only positives....

I've heard ILM's CGI department spend hours on the algorithm's trying to make that rock look like plywood painted like a rock, so it would be sympathetic with the original 70's rocks.

But the "whole" story is the entire 6 films... and since you've already seen the prequels, you can't just unlearn Lucas's intentions. Even if they release the UOT, the prequels still exist and that's half the story.

And to everyone who complains about Anakin being a whiny kid - if he wasn't he wouldn't be a "real" character. If he was the same mean villian even when he was 10, there would be no sympathy for him. Kids are whiny. Everyone complaining about it was whiny at one time. Doesn't anyone understand the idea of a character arc? And what redemption means? Jeez.
