Its about 3/4s of the way through, where they've gone to the Jedi temple.

I couldn't agree more. I own Episode I on VHS and the quality is... well it's VHS! It's also the crappy fullscreen version. But it is the original theatrical cut. Then I also own the Widescreen DVD which is crap too, because of the heavy EE and the pink tint. Now this Blu-ray is a massive DNR crime.

I know people will do anything to ruin the experience of Star Wars.

.
If you get a chance read some of the original treatments even to the working screenplay. The back story would involve (Episodes I - III) Anakin (Skywalker) Starkiller. It wasn't until filming Star Wars some point in the middle or end or after principle photography ended that he decided to fuse Darth Vader with Anakin. This is clear as many of the scripts had a duel with Anakin and Vader taking place on the surface of the Death Star. Eventually Luke's father and siblings were dropped from the Episode IV story all together. If you watch the scene where Obi-Wan tells Luke about his father for the first time and keep this in mind, you may wonder if he knew then or if Lucas didn't know for sure if Vader was Luke's father at that point. He decided to kill Obi-Wan sometime during filming not before filming began.

Lucas was going back and forth with many ideas of what he wanted. I'm sure he would have written Vader as Luke's father if he would have had enough time, but Star Wars began shooting and he kept tinkering with ideas through the entire shoot. Vaders original intent for Lucas was to be the evil doer that always loses in the end and vows to return to fight another day.

Did Lucas have everything figured out before filming began in 1975, no. Are we expected to think that he did? I don't, but many do. He wrote a synopsis and decided to focus on what he thought was the most interesting storyline, the modern mythology he wanted to create.

Lucas is a dope if he approved that. It's not like TPM was shot on 16mm, how much grain could there possibly be

I hope whoever took those shots had their video card's DNR filter on full blast.

Whoever the reviewer will be for this set. Is the person i will believe.

Till then these pics are useless to me.

Oh and a list of credible sites to go to for the review aside from Blu-ray.com is:
1) Hometheaterforum.con
2) Diditalbits.com
3) Dvdbeaver.com

Even shot in HD, Episodes II and III don't look that smooth. There's a lot of detail in those films.

OK, I found the DNR'ed screenshot at 01:34:31 (thanks to tigertron for the 3/4 hint, I probably would have looked forever if not, I'm no SW expert), and I'm sorry to have to report, but that screenshot is pretty accurate.

However, it is not representable for the whole film though. Yeah, some scenes are like that sadly, as I voiced my opinion far back in the thread when I first watched TPM, some scenes are indeed pretty soft. This is probably as worse as it gets. Other scenes are far better. But overall, I'd probably rate TPM with the worse PQ of the six films. So there you have it.

I know, that's why I said your statement was false. He's called Luke Skywalker in ANH and in the script, therefore it was changed way before the first movie. Deal with it.

You are the one who needs to google it. You keep saying "bad plot holes" when the situations don't show any. I'm led to assume you don't know what a plot hole is.

Thanks for that. I remember your post about the Episode I transfer being the most inconsistent with it going for soft to pretty excellent....

So all the people who did not want to buy it are now saying it's DNR all over the release? I wonder why that is?

There is a lot of detail, just no grain. So you take Episode I, DNR the crap out of it to remove the grain and then you have a wax fest with no detail in the end!

Hopefully there will be no EE.

Those TPM screencaps are not very encouraging. But I wouldn't jump to conclusions yet. Do we know if these were taken from the actual blurays? Or ISO rips of blurays? Or low bitrate mkvs? If it's from pirated mkv files, it's possible that the DNR was applied during the conversion to low bitrate the mkvs.

And while DNR is very apparent on all three shots... it is waaaaay worse on the Qui-Gon one than the other two. The Qui-Gon scene could easily be suffering from motion blur, or simply an isolated misfocus by the camera.

As far as Predator that movie should never have looked like that the director intended for the movie to have film grain.

As for TPM that movie was a mess back then and Lucas updated it to make it look like AOTC and ROTS.

And once again I feel like Lucasfilm has deliberately misled people with their pre-release teasers and hype. I guess that the marketing people's job but... blech. TPM could probably be the best-looking of all 6, but that QuiGon shot looks like it could've come out of Gangs of New York
