I'll check the DVD if there is a shot like in the Blu-ray.

I think it's hilarious when forum members try to convince each other.

I must admit my memory of TPM isn't that good; is it indeed a difference or just two different but similar-looking frames?
I've checked it! The screenshots are correct! It really is a change from DVD to Blu!

I just checked and it is accurate.

The characters say the same dialogue and move the same way, but it is zoomed out, and the backdrop they are standing in front of is positioned differently (with different CGI effect in the doorway).

So they have re-done this shot for the Bluray.

Yes, I just checked it, too. The new shot is an improvement imo.

Is that your actual copy! Cause that looks to be in really good shape! Nice LD set. I only own the original single releases and the late 90's Special Ed box set.

I recall being really excited for the Special Edition coming to theatres back in 97 and I enjoyed them and the most changes didn't anger me. (Hated the Han Solo shooting issue - He isn't the hero and therefore has human flaws. He Shot First) I loved the music change at the end of JEDI. The ewoks song was a lot annoying. - However the later change of Hayden Christiansen imposed at the at was tacky looking to say the least.

Lucas can change the prequels as much as he wants I wouldn't care or hardly notice much change since they more or less bored me. I am still buying the full box set edition and will watch them all.

My friends and I joke about getting upset with changes and we may have to just watch the LDs (even though they are not 16:9)

THAT is funny because I vividly remember seeing the Jedi images fade out -- YES FADE OUT -- in that scene as they ran away from the Droidekas. It was as if the filmakers thought we wouldn't notice it on the big screen at the time, but it was very noticeable. At the time it reminded me of the disappearing Tie Fighters in Return of the Jedi LOL!

I just pre ordered "The Complete Saga" instead of just getting the prequels. Not a huge fan of the originals. Granted my first experience with Star Wars was the prequels, so maybe they have spoiled me

I'm glad he's not forcing everyone to purchase all the movies. But since the price difference was negligible I decided to take it!! I could change my mind before it ships though lol

WRONG!!!!!!

If only you would open your mind, you would see what we see. But you let your hatred for irrational arguments cloud your vision. You're clearly not a fan of forum posting. Leave this place to us, the true fans of endless discussions of whose opinion is clearly the correct one*.

Unfortunately for the rest of us, your generation is the target market of all the new and (dis)improved changes to the OT films.

/don't take it personally, it's not your fault individually.

That looks awesome!

Just be advised that if you show them the "mutilated" version afterwards, prepare for questions like, "what happened to this...?" and "why did he change that...?" etc., etc.,...

Since I grew up on the original trilogy, I see what you're saying here, but the special editions were the first time I got to see Star Wars in theaters. I was born in 82, so I basically had to watch Star Wars on TV or VHS growing up. Being able to see them in theaters finally, changes and all, was pretty epic for me.

Lucas definitely does what he does not just to make everything flow together better by look, feel, and tone, but he does it so he can keep his franchise going. He's kind of beating a dead horse here because Star Wars is most definitely well established enough that it can pretty much live on forever as is, but I don't think it's terrible that he's making these films appeal more to children. Back in my day, I was content enough with the lightsabers and the Rancor and seeing Boba Fett and whatever... but sadly, today's generation needs a bit more. Although I'm kinda peeved that Lucas doesn't provide the ORIGINAL originals for us who have watched this since before they were altered, I'm glad that it's more appealing to the younger generations now. Last thing I want to do really is sit my kid down in front of A New Hope and have him tell me it's boring because there's nto enough goofy shit to look at on the screen.

Just my opinion, though.

OK, showing my ignorance, but this is a legit question: why does an audio descriptive track need to be DD5.1?

I thought it played over the regular audio track and augmented it; does it actually replace the original audio, and so has the music and sound effects as well?

Some shots have been posted on other forums, and the DNR appears to be evident throughout on TPM. Sometimes really bad, sometimes not so bad, but bad all the same. No-one has any texture to their face and it looks a little bit like the film has become 'Valley of the dolls'.

Here they are - BIG versions so please use spolier tags if requoting, and give them a bit of time to load. Liam Nesson seems to have come off the worse in the DNR issues, he is completely free of any facial imperfections in all shots.

[Show spoiler]

If you can get past the smooth look and almost complete lack of grain however, the detail is exceptional! The second picture with Qui Gonn, you can even see the glue line holding on his wig on the left LOL. I can get past them, and can't chuffin' wait to see all the films on my theatre set up

It's the only track playing, so it does have the movie audio as well, though mostly slightly muted in favour of the descriptive speech. But traditionally, the descriptive tracks have usually been 2.0.

At least the DNR isn't as bad as "Patton."

But in this case it's, "Valley of the Gungans".

That's what it takes to be an A-list movie star.
