Personally, I don't even consider DVD an option anymore. To me, it's obsolete, so any movie I have on the format ceases to exist when a BD copy comes out. It's a personal choice and many may not agree, but I won't even watch DVDs unless it's really necessary. "Sticking with the DVD" is not an option for me in all but the most extreme edge cases. The worst thing about DNR/EE being used excessively is the apologists who will genuinely claim it's an improvement because of this and that. It's so sad to see people in such deep denial that they will spin negatives into positives just to convince themselves it's money well spent. I may buy the DNR/EE stuff when I love the movie, but at least I fully acknowledge I am compromising my principles and am mildly disappointed, I don't make up nonsense about how overprocessed slop is "an improvement". ![]() |

Lol, Attack of the Teal Tint! First Fellowship and now this.
![]() Although in this case it may actually benefit the film because the old neutral scheme made everything look even more fake. |

Some people asked about the deleted scene where Yoda communes with Qui-Gon, so I'll put it here as well. It's not Neeson voicing Qui-Gon, and the visual effects are very rough. Basically it's Qui-Gon saying a couple of things, while the camera rotates around a simple 3D model of Yoda. It finishes with Organa entering and addressing Yoda.

As in the case with the LOTR EE tint, the teal tint in AOTC seems to diminish contrast and overly darken the image.
Check out the shot of Portman and Christensen in the shadows and compare them side to side. Not a huge deal to ME, because I don't hold the PT in anywhere near the kind of esteem as the LOTR EE, but it doesn't seem necessary. Last edited by El_Jay; 09-07-2011 at 05:54 PM. |

Still, camera negative as shot shouldn't hold a tremendous amount of grain (unless it's high speed, see the comments about Aliens) so when it's scanned in there's very little grain to begin with. And the footage from Ep I was scanned circa '97/'98, so I'm wondering if what we're looking at is the result of skilled DNR application after the fact, or the limitations of near 15-year-old 2K scans laid bare, with accompanying CG shots made to look just as smooth. I'm liking the teal push to Clones. Makes it look a little more serious somehow, instead of the candy-coloured adventure that it was. Last edited by Geoff D; 09-07-2011 at 06:07 PM. |
