After all Mark H., Carrie Fisher and co were easily of Orson Welles' caliber, at least according to the purist fans!

I just tried out this track and WOW what a difference! NOW this is how it is supposed to be! Sounded great. Such a shame they messed up the audio track on this. I'm so glad I can get the blu-ray next year, which should have this error corrected, because I can't hardly stand to watch the dvd now due to the messed up sound. The French 2.0 track sounded nice and balanced.

Of course they are, did you not get the memo

What kill's me is that most of the fans who hate the prequels will tell you just how fantastic Harisson Ford is as an actor in Star Wars but in most conversation they will hate every other movie his ever made and tell you he is horrible actor So I get confuse, is he good or bad?

I find he is horrible in Star Wars, he just played it safe, said the line and cashed in on the money and fame it gave him to moved on to movies that were more interesting to him. He even mention countless time in the 90's how he would never do Han Solo again but be Indiana Jones anytime they asked him.

I think the two major technical issues to address in the blu release are:

1.) The DVD of 'A New Hope' is a disaster. It needs serious work in both sound and video.

2.) 'The Phantom Menace' needs a remaster. The one they used to strike the DVD's is dreadful.

How hard is it to be a smirking wise-arse? I could have done the same by drinking a couple beers and winging it, if I were as good-looking as Ford, (which, I'm sure, is how Ford did it, considering his love of drink).

To be fair, I actually do think Ford is a very good actor, but Star Wars is not his best work by a long shot.

Do we know what other, if any, deleted scenes will be included in these versions of the film?

I would agree. I remember hearing that Sir Alec Guinness didn't want to do the films either, as he thought the script was terrible.

Guinness hated the script, hated the idea of being made into an action figure... pretty much hated everything about Star Wars until the money and praise started pouring in, then he changed his tune a bit.

He didn't change it very much. Considering you have reports of him making children cry.

One kid who came up to him that loved the character of Obi-Wan got sent away in tears.

Yes. There are a few things I wouldn't do for money. But they are damn few. The right price can make any of us a w***e.

I never really hated any of the acting in any of the films, including the much beloved animated film (I was being sarcastic, but I personally like the film ). I like all the films, the OT in both forms. I will love this set, although it would've been nice for both versions to be included, for the historical value and for fans who abhor the revised versions. I admit, I first saw and heard of Star Wars during the 1997 re-release and was surprised when the Jabba scene wasn't on my Uncle's video (I was 10 and didn't know much about visual effects). Take my thoughts for what they're worth.

"It is said that certain creatures are born with a higher awareness of the Force than humans. Their brains are different; they have more midi-chlorians in their cells."

―George Lucas, establishing guidelines for the Expanded Universe in 1977

So it wasn't exactly a new concept. Just one that didn't get fleshed out until Phantom Menace. Though there are some suggestions of a means of measuring Force Ability in a few of the Expanded Universe novels. But naturally it was mostly reserved for Lucas to flesh out. And we have to recall that the Midis arn't themselves The Force.

"Midi-chlorians in The Phantom Menace are part of a recurring theme throughout the movie, that of symbiotic relationships. They were loosely based on mitochondria, organelles that provide energy for cells; like midi-chlorians, mitochondria are believed to have once been separate organisms that inhabited living cells and have since become part of them; even now, mitochondria act in some ways as independent lifeforms, with DNA all their own. Lucas established this relation with mitochondria, in particular the necessity of midi-chlorians for life to exist, as a metaphor for society; namely, he says all parts of society must get along in much the same way the midi-chlorians and their symbiont do."

Also of note:

George Lucas considers the two aspects of the Force separately, treating the midi-chlorians as the practical, biological side, distinct from the spiritual and metaphysical side of the Force.
Book was written in 2007. In no way shape or form did Lucas know anything about or come up with Midichlorians in 1977. Got a question for you, how old were you in 1977 and were you old enough to understand and comprehend these films in 1977,80 and 83?

Also you constantly post on here like you know the man personally. Well I guess you must since you know what is in his will right? he Spiritual and biologial side? This is just too funny......make up your mind. Face it, when that childhood rapist took the mysticism out of the films they went downhill.

Tarkin: This bickering is pointless. Now Lord Vader will provide us with the blu-ray of the Special Editions only. We will then crush the Purist Rebellion with one swift stroke.

About Alec Guinness, he enjoyed doing it, but when he saw how obsessive the fans became...he did not want to have more to do with it, so his role was reduced to mainly "force ghost" appearances.

Go check out the book. Again, there's notes from 1977 detailing info for EU writers.

Yes, I saw the original films in the theaters when they were first released.

And it's not like these films were deep and difficult to comprehend.

And there you go with that idiotic "childhood rapist" comment again.

I really do not see the huge problem with a spiritual and biological aspect of the Force.

And he never took the mysticism aspect out, your interpretation of the facts that is ignoring it.

Him having a reduced role as a Force Ghost started with ANH, long before the obsessed fans.

And the guy was still a jerk for the way he treated fans, especially children who loved the character.

Beast's right about the midichlorians showing up in notes and such prior to the release of the first Star Wars film.

It was an idea that he had for a while.

I'm amused that he thinks he's moved beyond Han Solo but that Indiana Jones is any different. Same friggin character.

Biggest problem is that his other body of work isn't substantially better. Kwai, for example, is a decent movie but horrible history
