Very true, I forgot about that...

You want to know how much better the Blu-ray of ANH looks compared to the 2004 DVD? Well, here you go

wow, not exactly night and day difference is there, but then again the 2004 DVD was a very good encode, and ANH is the weakest of all the original film elements, so not entirely surprising, i just hope theyve managed to do a better job with the sound, which was quite harsh and abrasive on the DVD

Yeah, it´s not like people have to be fans of Star Wars. They don´t have to like them... if it´s not for them, it´s OK. If someone likes SW E4: ANH and hates SW E5: TESB it´s also OK. The fact of the matter is that Star Wars is a six part Saga. If you consider yourself a fan of this six part saga, one might think that you like the six parts of that saga. I don´t see how that is debatable.

Me personally, I love all six movies, but I´m not a fan of Clone Wars and I absolutely dislike everything Expanded Universe or fanmade so far. The core always remains George Lucas´ six Episodes that actually is Star Wars.

When it comes to the Alien franchise it´s a whole different thing for example. It´s not one big project by one filmmaker but one movies followed by sequels more or less connected to the first but made by different filmmakers with different ideas. I don´t consider myself a fan of the whole franchise since I don´t like all of the movies. The first ALIEN is one of my favorite movies but I don´t like the second one (ALIENS) at all.... etc.

It is not just you. They could look so much better if they did a modern 4k or 8k restoration instead of reusing the old Lowry 1.9k transfer from 2004.

Actually it's from 1995, 2004 DVD transfers are just tweaked versions of the restoration made for Special Edition.

It's been quite a ride. The last few months everyday I came and read every single posts of this thread, from where I left off. Now I just click on the last page and just glance at the posts. I'm totally geared up for the blu-ray I'm just counting days. I'm not even looking forward for professional reviews anymore. Star Wars: The Complete Saga Blu-ray will be mine that's all that matter now.

8 days left for us Americans...I've never been so excited!

I actually had a dream last night that this website posted its review of the Complete Saga. I don't remember the contents other than the fact that it was posted

I'll admit I had my worries, but overall I think this will be a great set. At first, I was turned off by Vader's new dialogue, but I think that was just the initial shock that got me, and it seems the same for everyone else too.

I'm definitely buying these at Walmart on midnight. Unfortunately I have class Friday morning and I live in half a double, so I can't really play movies or music late at night so the most I can really do right after I buy them is put one in and see the PQ >_<

In 1995 it just got a physical cleanup and the only bits scanned where the bits where changes were made.

In 2004 it was rescanned at 1080p and this is when Lowry did his digital cleaup.

The Blurays come from this transfer, after all the degrain/regrain stuff was done. That's fine for a SD release, when you downscale it you cant really retain much grain anyway. But for Bluray they really needed to do all this work at 4k or higher.

And if one did not like Superman 3, 4 and Superman Returns, then obviously you are not a Superman fan.

Have faith young ones, these films can still be fun even when you're close to the grave like me.
You're not the only old man here... LOL.. Albeit, I was only 4 when "Star Wars" opened in 1977. I can still remember the theater that day, filled with kids cheering and clapping during the movie. The OT were the only movies I can remember going to and hearing people cheering for in the middle of watching it. I saw ESB at a drive-in theater! Does anyone remember those?

I keep hearing about this degrain/regrain from Lowry. Can you someone link me to the actual work they did on this? Seems weird to completely regrain something then add fake grain to the image? We are seeing fake film grain in these?
