Me!

A few posts ago I said why...basically, my order (IMO) gives it a Godfather Part II kinda feel to it.

Also, think about how the last Tatooine scene from III, ties nicely with the whole 'discovery' of Luke and Leia being family. Plus, by destroying the Death Star II, you have a better ending to it. I cannot see III ending the saga.

Star Wars was better off as Luke's story. Changing it to Anakin's story was lame beyond belief.

The story stops focusing on Anakin once he becomes a Sith. He just makes a small re-appearance at the end of ROTJ. In the OT, it's about Luke rising above and not sharing his father's fate.

I see it as a Skywalker story.

I think most people wouldn't mind the story focusing on Anakin if he didn't go from being a happy-go-lucky annoying little kid to a whiny murderer who is also a clueless idiot.

Bingo.

I can think of like 20 actors who would have KILLED that role and been nominated for Best Supporting Actor. Think it can't happen? Heath as 'The Joker'.

Nobody would get nominated with Lucas's writing, and Hayden was fine in episode 3, as good as Mark Hamill was in any on the ot.

Yeah exactly!!! He was a combinaion of Sir Laurence Olivier & Spencer Tracy

That's why 30 years later his only other major role is voicing the Joker in animated series

Writing schmiting, the right actor could have improvised the dialogue or just delivered the cheesy lines with enough conviction to really sell it.

I disagree about Hayden being fine in Ep 3, and being on par with Hamill. I just got a teen emo vampire vibe from the guy in both films. Just my opinion, not hating.

I have to agree. I couldn't imagine anyone getting much recognition for what Lucas had for his character.

Although I feel Hayden was a really poor choice. For example, Anakin is really creepy with Padme in AOTC and I think a better actor could have really pulled off what they were going for. In more of a "I like you" sort of way and not a "I want to wear your skin because it's smooth" kind of way.

A family member of mine who is not any sort of "fanboy" (he saw the OT as a teen and liked it) called him "the guy who ruined Star Wars." lol

There are finer actors in the PT who appear restrained and wooden compared to other roles they've done in other films too.

The PT really had to be about Anakin. My first thought when I found out that Lucas was doing it was, "So we get to see how Luke's dad became Vader?" It's really what was on our minds (in addition to other stuff). By the way, the Anakin in the PT is nothing like how I imagined a young Darth Vader.

This is very true. Samuel L, Jimmy Smits, Ewan McGregor and Natalie Portman, ALL very accomplished in their craft, came off as wooden and boring in the PT. It can't be easy acting against a green screen for 14 hour shoots and trying to pretend you're on board a giant starship in space.

Liam Neeson was, to me, the only legitimately very good performance in the trilogy.

Agree with this. Hayden was phenomenal in Ep3. The few bad parts of Ep3 had more to do with the script than his performance. Overall, he was better in that movie than Mark Hamill ever was in any of the OT. Most haters simply refuse to acknowledge Hayden's good performance in RotS... which isn't surprising, given that most haters refuse to even acknowledge the high praise the movie itself received from critics.

Hayden's performance in Episode 2 was certainly dubious... but I don't think it's his fault. Even Natalie Portman looked bad with the dialogue she was given for AotC.

Absolutely. Ewan McGregor and Ian McDiarmid were the only two to rise above the material (and they really were excellent).

Christopher Lee and Liam Neeson were pretty flat and Natalie Portman, Samuel Jackson and Jimmy Smits were just plain bad.

His voice acting is top-tier, and it's not like voice acting is some cakewalk thing that's easy to do. A lot of great film and stage actors can't voice-act for shit. We'll see how much work Mannequin Skywalker is getting in 30 years.

How many high profile gigs did 'Princess Leia' get after Star Wars? Carrie Fisher is an excellent actress.

Dis.A.Gree.
Well no offence but the story of Star Wars (original) goes like this

A few old veterant actors

A few as been who remain as been after

A few new comers who got popular because of it but never manage to go anywhere

One dude who manage to make it ULTRA big and is still laughing today

And PS when you are a great actor you don't get typecast

A good actor needs to have a good script to make his performance come alive. A great actor could read ANYTHING and make it sound like poetry. Actors like Ian McDiarmid, Alec Guiness, Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee took the garbage dialogue Lucas gave them and made it sound like it was gold. Hayden and Natalie just weren't experienced enough to be able to do that.

Ian Mcdiarmid's performance as Chancellor Palpatine was the best performance of any actor in the entire Star Wars saga. He was doing pretty good as Darth Sidious too... until he started hamming it up towards the end of RotS. But as Palpatine, he was better than even Alec Guiness was in the OT.

And you can't deny that Pernilla August's performance as Schmi Skywalker was nothing short of perfect in TPM. She had the tragic mother role down pat... despite of the fact that nothing particularly tragic happens to her in that movie. That's good acting right there.

Also, Ewan McGregor's performances in AotC and RotS was far from "wooden". Methinks you're dismissing him solely because of the way he played young Obi-Wan in TPM.
