I agree with you 100%
I don't know if this has been asked or brought up, but are there still visible matte lines on tie fighters and such? I remember reading, when the blu rays leaked, that there were still very visible matte lines during the battle of Endor.

I didn't see any consensus in that discussion towards Merlin. I saw him being accosted for sharing his own personal opinions about the set he happened to receive early, and instead of people being thankful, people forgot those were his 'opinions' on the set, and told him he was being misleading and blah blah blah... and for what? For merely sharing, an opinion. There's no 'consensus' to debate when someone is openly stating their opinion on how a product looks to their eyes. Only one person alone can speak for that, and that's 'you'.

Did you somehow miss the fact that I´ve also seen the actual blu-ray discs? I have just as much right to post an opinion on the PQ of the films as he does.

I did miss that. I don't have time to keep up with this whirlwind of a thread more often than occasionally. Post away.

I still think that Merlinpants deserves a little bit more gratitude for helping everybody out and providing his own opinion - which we all know is just an opinion, right?

I personally really appreciate Melinpants' opinions on this set, and from past experiences, I know that kingkong650 is very objective when it comes to judging transfers. Merlinpants has said that he's not all that technical, when it comes to this stuff, and kingkong650 has stated that he is highly sensitive to DNR, probably much more than most.

I am thankful to have both of your opinions on this, and I really wish we could just drop the arguments. We are allowed to have different opinions, which should lead to a healthy discussion, not a fight.

Like Todd Smith asked, how's the audio? I would be really interested in hearing some in depth analysis of the audio for each film, and how they compare to each other, and how the OT compares to the PT. Does the audio on E.IV sound like it was made yesterday?

There are ways to come across as balanced and impartial, weighing up the pros and cons. He does not do this in his review, he talks up the whole set, emphasising the positives and barely mentioning any of the negatives. Nobody is accosting him, only asking him to back up his absolute statements like the set being ´reference´ material with reasoning and evidence. Is that too much to ask? Clearly for most of you apologists it is.

The totally unbiased evidence out there in regards to The Phantom Menace directly conflict with his 4/5 opinion of the PQ, my eyes conflict with his opinion of the PQ, so who do you thing i´m going to trust. My eyes and totally unbiased objective evidence or some total stranger on the internet who´s been bigging up this set from the very beginning? Not a difficult choice now is it.

Cheers frogmort, the voice of reason as per usual. I agree with that sentiment, lets not argue any more. We clearly have very different opinions on the matter of The Phantom Menace´s picture quality. As Grand Moff Tarkin says, ´all this bickering is pointless!´.

It´ll be interesting to see what the professional reviewers say in the next few days about the PQ of these releases once they get their hands on the set.

Wasn't today the release day in UK or is it tomorrow? Hopefully we will start to see some official reviews.

As for being more susceptible to certain things, I for one HATE the "frozen grain" look that I am afraid that we are going to have with Episode 1 and the OT. I can deal with the stupid changes (not happy about it but I can live with it) but when an image is DNR'd to death and then "fake" grain is added back in, that drives me CRAZY!

As far as I remember Frodo says "No! The Ring is mine!" instead of simply putting the thing on his finger. It's the same thing and nobody seems to mind...

Tomorrow is the UK release. I am really hoping that this site puts up an import review sometime tomorrow as well.

Well said and I agree! Thanks to both of you guys for your opinions on this set! What did both of you guys think of the audio to change gears a bit from the video discussion? Sorry if either of you mentioned this already as I might have missed it.

KingKong, in your opinion, how does the DNR in PM compare to Dark City? Better, worse (not sure how it could be worse!), same.....thanks!

Oh, and how distracting is the green ti........nevermind, wrong thread...............

Thanks!

Wednesday is release day here in OZ. (Quite a number of places you can buy it over the counter already. Only the outrageous price -- in most places, $140 -- is keeping me from picking one up.

Yes, absolutely!! It's like films I have seen that were shot with marks on the lens, and the marks stay in place even when the camera angle or subject changes. Ye gods it's irritating!!

I haven't checked this thread in a while so I'm sorry if this question seems recycled: have there been any reviews yet for this set?

There have been no "Pro" reviews yet, only users who have received the discs early....
