On a forum such as this, where people will come just to bash something they don't agree with, those are the poeple that make sure and vote. Hell, I'd even bet that they would find a way to do it more than once.

Me, I will buy the set, and I don't care about the changes, and I haven't even voted. I'm sure there are many like me who haven't had the desire to participate.
The poll is statistically invalid, but not for the reason you think. Any poll in which the respondants are self-selected is inherently skewed. Only the people who have the strongest feelings tend to respond (regardless of yay/nay) and "vote", which means it no longer reflects the general public sentiment as a whole. Remember that famous "Dewey Defeats Truman" photo? Self-selection polls led to that (of course that was before modern polling techniques).

If you got Gallup to poll 2000 randomly selected Americans about the Star Wars BD release with the question "Do you approve or disapprove of the changes in the new Star Wars home video release", I suspect the outcome would be:

12% Disapprove
8% Approve
80% Don't know / don't care

I'd be in the 12% who disapprove, but it is what it is.

It's currently available second-hand on VHS (best US release format available) or on Japanese Laserdisc (with burnt-in Japanese subtitles).

You could argue that the 2007 TV documentary "Star Wars: The Legacy Revealed" is also "missing", but it's been 4 years and the History Channel still hasn't put it out on home video (excepting Emmy award screeners) so I doubt it'll ever get an official release.

It's time for a retrospective documentary anyways, one that includes the prequels.

Really, what would be neat is something like the Alien set. A documentary per movie. I'm not talking about The Beginning, From Puppets to Pixels, and Within a Minute. Those are great documentaries that cover the production aspects of the film, with a little pre and post. Within a Minute is an interesting doc for people wanting to learn about the filmmaking process in general, not really about Star Wars.

Each film, with new interviews and behind the scenes footage covering the inception, creation (including the screenwriting process which was skimmed through in a very misleading way in Empire of Dreams, suggesting that Empire Strikes Back, which actually started as Star Wars: Chapter II, and Return of the Jedi were Episodes V and VI from almost the start and that the ground work of Vader being Luke's father was there from the start, when in fact, they were at one point written as two different characters...and not as gimmick to fool everybody), filming, scoring, etc. Each the length of Empire of Dreams.

I love Alien, but I always find it odd that it sort of gets the better treatment, special feature and documentary wise, then Star Wars. Right now, all the documentaries made for Star Wars have been topped by a pair of coffee table books, that are as incredibly informative as the docs should be.

There's only one person qualified to be the host for a retrospective documentary of the prequels...

"Everybody loves the prequels! Jar-Jar is an iconic character for the ages!"

Absolutely! The alterations and alleged mistakes are blown way, way out of proportion! The Blurays are the best way to experience the whole 6-part Saga in chronological order and stunning A/V and maybe you will become a fan after that. Your Avatar suggests that you are a Lynch-enthusiast (like me btw). He and Lucas are both independent filmmakers with integrity and a boundless imagination. I bet you won't regret buying this set...

Almost the same here, except A New Hope will always be my favorite because it was my entry point into the saga. Although Revenge of the Sith has the most advanced effects, it is my least favorite because of Anakin's non-credible conversion to the Dark Side.

Amazon is showing that Cit. Kane and Star Wars both shipped-out this AM for delivery on Weds. Never known Amazon would jump the gun like this before.

As the week of STAR WARS begins we have the first tidbit of news regarding the Blu-ray release.

The US Editions of the STAR WARS Blu-ray sets have all been confirmed region free.

So, if you have a non-region A player and prefer the US editions you should not worry.
Well, that has been confirmed (though not verified) for a whole month now…

Default Toys R Us change????

Ok, the latest venture to the Toys R Us website shows the OT set as being 29.99 and the PT set now pre-selling for 47.49?????

I might end up getting the OT there and running to BB to get the PT for 34.99 (with my 5.00 reward zone coupon)

Also, I called TRU and asked if the price on the site would be the price in store come Friday. A girl named "Ashley" told me that unless it states as an online only price, the website price should also be the in store price.

Take that for what you will.

The simplest explanation is that the OT boxset is a much more attractive "loss leader" than its prequel counterpart. There are far more OT-only fans than there are PT-only fans.

They must have just now come to this conclusion because both sets were 29.99 the other day.

That ****ing Jar Jar sure is one expensive Gungan.

Hi there I see you are from Illinois. Not sure if you are in Chicago or not but I did a Google search and it appears that the Best Buy on North Ave in Chicago will have a midnight release party.

Why they didn't release this set in the US on Tues Sept 13th is beyond me. Isn't Tues the usual day for releases? I think most SW releases came out on a Tues for over the last 10 years.
