I dunno... A CLIFFHANGER?

The rationale behind the 4,5,1,2,3,6 order is woefully inept to say the very least.
The rationale preserves one of the most famous "surprises" in film history, and it also preserves the alleged suspense of Palpatine's storyline, preserves the suspense of Anakin's fall (because the newbie wouldn't know if Vader was lying or not), and then drops a third whammy when we learn Leia and Luke are related in Sit, all before returning to the one film that wraps up all the plot threads (Jedi). Star Wars Episode IV establishes the universe in a fun and thrilling way, Empire then asks all the questions...it takes four movies to resolve all the questions raised in Empire. 4 and 5 are the best films, we then go Godfather and flashback to the beginning, before returning to the present to wrap up all the story lines.

You watch em in any order you want. For a newbie, I'd recommend the order that retains the most surprises. 4, 5, 1, 2, 3, 6.

Although, as I have said previously, because Lucas shied away from what he planned (explicitly stating Anakin was created by the Sith, by a Sith Lord who had learned how to live well beyond his years, and could even create life with the Dark Side of the Force), then Phantom Menace is largely boiler plate, and one really only needs to view the films in the order 4, 5, 3, 6. Lucas himself claimed he only fit 20% of his backstory into the first two films, and couldn't fit the rest into Sith. Well, that 20% is really superfluous, and someone who had never seen Episodes 1 and 2 would catch up fairly quickly watching Sith - it's just a shame Anakin's origin is never explained properly. It is set up for the Dark Myth that it is in Episode I ("Not even Master Yoda's midi count is that high. What does it mean?" "I don't know.") but for some reason, Lucas backed off in Episode III, and didn't drop the hammer that Anakin is essentially the anti-Christ who, despite his origin and flaws, restores peace and nobility to the realm. Instead of redemption for Episode I, by pulling back on Anakin's origin in Sith, Phantom Menace has been left to dangle.

So far just watched TPM, audio was top notch and while some scenes don't look that great, others look PERFECT. I'd give the PQ overall a 3.5 and the AQ a 4.

Next up AOTC.

[quote=estoniankid;5206532]The prequels didn't exactly fail, the 3 of them pulled in about 1 billion in theater ticket

Edit: Ugh. Got my post erased. Was trying to say that I'm an unreserved fan although I recognize the flaws and think the direction of Phantom Menace lacks the confidence of the last half of Clones and all of Sith.

When I say 'failures' I mean in terms of the tarnish to Lucas' legacy that's pretty prevalent in the mainstream, despite plenty of people who like them and feel like they have to go on the defensive to explain why.

They learn Darth Vader's revelation, we flash back, we see the truth, we find out Luke has a sister named Leia, we see how Vader fell, then we come back to the OT storyline to see how everything wraps up, only we're more afraid for Luke now having seen how his daddy fell.

I was gonna warn you that by agreeing with me you might feel the wrath of a certain poster on here, but.....

Can anyone post some screenshots from AOTC? I keep hearing the picture has been tinted and it looks awful. Casey said in the review the picture looks different but people around are saying its worse.

Actually I got this site from a poster earlier, I actually don't see whats wrong with the picture. It looks a lot better than the DVD, darker. But then again these are just screenshots and I'll have to see how the actual blu ray looks. However this is far from the green tint that Jackson added in the Fellowship of the ring extended blu ray

Of all the "Nooo" videos I've seen, this one takes the cake and features a whole bunch of "new" Nos.

See for yourself:

LOVE the marquee!

Does that annoying support pole obscure the screen at all?

Oh and please update with a pic showing the featured attraction.

just a thought, but it may have something to do with everyone's location. some need to ship earlier to guarantee the date. my prime orders often make it me in one day because I'm relatively close to a shipping facility. I haven't been paying attention to where shipped vs not shipped people are located. just throwing it out there.
Mine still hasnt shipped and i even have 1 day shipping and ordered on day 1 so crossing my fingers it goes into shipping soon while i sleep and shipped durring some point in the morning
