Well, I too had these little tiny pinhole prick sized dots on the underside of the discs. Probably wont' affect playback but, I'm still going to try and do an exchange with Amazon so I can have discs that look pristine. This is an $80 set, after all, and Star Wars... sure to be played time and time again. These need to be perfect.

It is sort of a negative aspect of going digital too early with Episode II.

God, how I wished the Red One was available for the Prequels....
I agree that it was artistic intent, but lets say an 8k scan was done. Now the grain is "intact and finer" so removing it takes less effort. Thus you can still keep that fine detail intact (that was normally part of the grain).

well if someone sees something physically odd on the disc itself and is having issues, then certainly doing an exchange in that instance makes total sense.
I would never disagree with that.
but too many times people are trying 6 different versions when there is absolutely no reason to.
I still can't believe some of the posts I've read over the years involving endless exchanges.
If 95% of other people aren't having problems, then that kind of tells you right there it's not the discs that are the problem.

many times there is just no rhyme or reason to it.
and a lot of the time it's related to java.
For example; There are still people waiting for an exchange program on hp and the deathly hallows 1, and it won't happen.

Have they fixed the Force Speed bit in Phantom? The Jedi's seemed to move faster than the speed of light [sabers] on the DVD.

I didnt go back through the many (hundreds) of pages to see if this is happening anyone else but I have a samsung player (last firmware update a few weeks ago) and the bonus discs have issues when you choose an item like the planet you want to view the xtras of andthe video starts to play and stops while something is loading then takes off at roadrunner speed and then goes to the regular menu. Could be a firmware issue that is going to be fixed but just wondering if anyone else out there had the issue.

Seriously? Of course it matters. It's indicative of how much of an improvement in quality there's been - that's what BD is all about. If it's nearly the same as an old, highly compressed HDTV version that is several years old that hardly bodes well for a BD release. And you can "own" an HDTV broadcast in a way, by DVR'ing it as it airs.

Has anyone seen an HDTV vs. BD comparison yet for the OT?

The two spots it occurs at are when Annakin is comforting his dying mother, and during the final battle as Yoda steps off the gunship at the forward command post.

The disc surface is immaculate. Not even a fingerprint or spec of dust.
I checked to make sure the firmware on my Panasonic was up to date. It wasn’t. It is now but it didn’t fix the problem.

Felt like a bit of a dick but I adore these movies so I took the set back and had it exchanged.
Popped replacement Episode 2 in and damn if it didn’t do exactly the same thing at the same points!
Am curious if anybody else experiences the same thing, whether it’s isolated to the Aussie region 4s or common globally.

I’m powering through the Clone Wars seasons now so it’ll be a couple of weeks before I get to Sith and the OT. Hopefully no more stuff ups.
It's the player causing it. Last night on my Pioneer 320 player both TPM and AOTC had pixelation problems, video would mess up, all kinds of video problems. I tried them on my PS3 slim and Panasonic bd-75 and they worked fine, no problems at all. There are players out there that are in need of firmware updates for this set. There are lots of people saying they are having audio dropouts with their players with these movies.

Bummer.....I was hoping for the same thing.

Now I am anxious to test them on my LG BH200, which has performed like a rock for the last few years. I'll let everyone know when my set arrives in the next few days.

I didn't choose anything. Those are the very first screencaps for all 5 titles. Bottom line is 4K makes a difference vs. dated 1.9K 7 year old dvd masters.

58in. Pioneer elite HDTV, Elite's are basically the best displays out there. Polk LSi speakers all around. My subwoofer alone was over $850. SC-05 Elite receiver. Pretty much a stellar set up. Look the screenshots from caps-a-holic say it all. 7 year old 1.9K dvd masters are hardly state of the art like the dvd's were back in 2004. Shoddy effort considering the significance of these films.

there is an issue with PowerDVD right now and possibly with some stand alone players. Lucasarts used some type of BD+ Encryption that normal players aren't used to. Basically this is the biggest **** up Blu-Ray launch in a long time; trumping Saving Private Ryan by a lot. Now some players are playing the movie without any issues, but a lot aren't. I would say less than a week for anyone on HTPC using PowerDVD. Stand alone players I have no idea how long till you get a firmware patch.

this patch may fix PowerDVD 10: http://www.cyberlink.com/prog/update...29-07_142481__

I enjoyed watching the deleted scenes for Ep II, specifically the library scene and the attack on the control ship. It looks pretty silly watching them fight thin air in front of a blue screen, but it had to have been fun too.

Actually I agree, but disagree with one of your points as well. Portman is a fantastic actress, however she clearly did not understand the mood and the vibe of the writing style of Episode II. This was a 30s/40s Medieval kinghts picture from classic Hollywood era... frankly Lucas' alternate choice for Amidala, Kiera Knightly, is much better suited to this type of role and could have delivered the lines with better conviction.

An actor can turn a clunky line like:

"But I've got a job to do, too. Where I'm going, you can't follow. What I've got to do, you can't be any part of. Ilsa, I'm no good at being noble, but it doesn't take much to see that the problems of three little people don't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world. Someday you'll understand that."

Nobody talks like that, but Bogart's delivery sells the dialogue.

Now as to your point it's Lucas' fault for not coaxing the performance out of the actress, well there is a certain grain of truth to that, but there comes a point where you have done what you can do, and the performance is the performance. Ultimately I think Portman was the wrong actress for the role. She did not come from the classic Hollywood school of acting like Carrie Fisher. Carrie nailed her role because she understood what Lucas was trying to accomplish.

But if you are going to use the prequels as evidence that Lucas does not know how to direct actors then I would use a film like "American Graffiti" as proof that he is perfectly capable of handling actors. I think he is more focused with the technical aspects of a film and simply expects the actors to do their job... probably should not work much with method actors.

+1 for audio dropouts. This is with my Oppo BDP-93 watching A New Hope last night. I have the latest firmware, so I guess I'll have to wait.

Even with that newest patch PowerDVD 10 and 11 (and 8 and 9) are still having issues with the BD+ Encryption.

They are claiming that the newest patch has fixed PowerDVD 10/11
