Finally finished the bonus disc for the Prequels and it's fantastic. The Collection is great with very detailed HD stills of the modes, costumes, and whatnot. And it's great to see the behind the scenes footage during the Collection and in the Interview sections.

The only sad part about the Prequels archive bonus disc is that I have all three art books for the Prequels so I had already seen all the pictures in the Concept Art Gallery feature. Bummer...

Have to say this re: the new CGI ewok eyes: when they did it, it improves their overall believability immensely. If the eyes work, the rest usually follows, whether it's live action or CGI. I wish more filmmakers would realize this, including Lucas. (It's one of the things the E1 Yoda gets so right, and is so wrong in Jar Jar: if they redid his eyes to be more realistic, the rest would work so much better too. Visually at least. )

I urge everyone to check out the archival commentaries. Best feature in the set, bar none.

Just finished AOTC. Wow. My ears are ringing a bit from the battle. That movie started slow but ended great on a high, that's for sure. For some reason, I wasn't cringing at the romance this time. Maybe I'm just used to it but didn't seem as implausible as it used to. Was there an alternation/addition to the scene when they land on Tatooine and the camera keeps panning?

Yep. That's why I'm slowly working my way through the set. Just started Episode III.

The Archival Commentaries are great though. A lot of interesting information.

Well that's weird maybe it's just my player I'll have to throw it in my PS3 quick to see if it still happens.

Beast,

I'll be listening to those commentaries from now on. It was just nice to hear the Prequel actors discuss the films on the commentaries, even if 50% of what they said I had already heard because of how closely I followed the production of the Prequels.

It was that other 50% that was great. Sam Jackson's "purple light" moment on the Episode II commentary was gold.

Yeah I'm going to give it a shot on my PS3 quick and see if that changes anything. I had no problems with the audio in TPM though on my player that had the problems with AOTC.

OK....so I'm watching ESB right now and that line isn't there. I wound it back to watch it again to make sure, and it's really not there.

I'm watching with just the TV speakers (I know, I know, I have to get a speaker system)...is it just buried on some audio channel or something I don't have?

Anyone had long Blu-Ray load times? I have about a 2 year old Philips blu-ray player. Tried to update the firmware by downloading the file to a cd and it always errors like the file is corrupted.

Well watched from the Clone Battle to the end of the Yoda Dooku fight and had no audio problems on the PS3. Interesting...

Long loading times on a current model of Sony and short load times on a PS3 it seems to vary depending on the player in my room.

3+ minutes from closing the tray to the menus on my 4yo Panny BD30 (all FW up to date). Aggravating, but a small price to pay for what you get after the wait.

It's a skill some have innately, and for others it requires training.

I think a lot of the problems with the acting in the Prequels falls squarely on the shoulders of Portman and Christensen. Heck there were dozens of other actors who turned in fine performances under the same conditions.

I think the reality is they didn't "get" the material until Episode III. All Natalie needed to do was look at the work her fellow Star Wars alum, Kiera Knightly was doing in the Pirates films (often acting against greenscreen herself). You need to read the lines like you believe every word coming out of your mouth. It's cheeseball B-movie material, but you need to read it with conviction.

Yancy
I hear what you're saying but at the end of the day it's the director's responsibility for all the performances in the film. In this case, Lucas was the guy saying "Cut. Print. We got it."

Interesting that you brought up Kiera Knightly. I watched TPM this afternoon and her name is in the end credits! I had no idea she was in the film.

She played Sabé, one of Padme's handmaidens.

As some people have said bitstreaming could be the problem. On my 60gb PS3 outputs LPCM connected via HDMI to my Onkyo and have had no trouble at all. The newer slim PS3's output Bitstream as standard I think so might have to go check your BD/DVD Audio Output format in your PS3s video settings for now.

No audio problems on any of the films. DTS HD MA decoding in Oppo BDP95 to analog 5.1 outputs.

On my PS3 it's less than a minute between inserting the disc to the main menu.

I know a lot of people will swear by a stand alone player but my PS3 is 4 going on 5 years old and plays every single disc I've ever got without fail.

Again about PS3 and audio issues, depending on what version you own it won't Bitstream TrueHD and DTS MA over HDMI. So it's best to keep it checked as LPCM in your settings.

I belive the PS3 Slim models fixed this issue, but there may still be a firmware issue to be adressed if it's causing trouble with the audio output on these discs.

Best thing to do is try it with both settings to see if that is the problem before trying to think of what else it could be.
