I don't like the changes any more than the rest of you, but they're permanent and at the end of the day amount to a few minutes from 12+ hours of film.

Everyone who is boycotting this release because of the changes is really missing out. The films look and sound better than they've ever sounded and the extras they've included, especially the "Collection" prop stuff, make them well worth the $90 price tag.

He asked, I answered.

I don't expect the UOT, so it's not some cause that I need to "give up on" because I'm not doing anything to make it a reality. You can't give up on something you are putting literally no effort into making happen.

Also I own the set, so no need to lecture me on how worth my money it is.

The amount of total film the changes take up makes no difference, I find that to be a weak argument. You could ruin EVERY classic movie, I mean literally every one, and I mean RUIN, not just "alter" with way less than 5 minutes of dialogue per movie.

Yeh all you have to do is select first look in the Boba Fett menu. I was going through them all anyway, but If people dont care about that kind of feature (marquettes and matte paintings and costumes etc.) Then they will miss it for sure. But I dont class something as an Easter Egg just because I dont bother to watch the features.

I mean no offence at all, sorry if I caused any.

You should probably watch some Pacino movies pre-Scent of a Woman, then, because it doesn't sound like you've seen most of his movies.

To each his own, but I think "he's always the same" is a vast, vast overstatement.

Oh whatever. It's an easter egg because no one "knows". It's cryptic until you highlight the necessary thing where details become revealed. It's not like the rest of the menu navigation.

Are you kidding me? That is totally ridiculous.

Go ahead, flame me for trying to share information to others that might not know. And yes, it is an easter egg regardless how you might want to define it. So what if it isn't totally embedded so deeply that only the hardest of hardcore SW/BD fans could find it. It might be weakly hidden but it is hidden and not listed anywhere as one of the "features", either on the packaging or readily available as the other more prominently displayed features.

Heehaw.

They can keep all the added FX shots, even the dewbacks and expanded Mos Eisley approach, and especially all the new explosions, improved speeders, improved SFX shots and improved sounds. I can even live with the new Krayt call, R2 behind the rocks, whatever...

Basically no additional scenes, just "fixes" that enhance already existing scenes, and I am OKAY with the dewbacks and some of the other CGI junk, but I could easily live without it too. Ideally, the OT with enhanced FX shots so the speeders and explosions don't look cheesy, and that's perfect.
What is Jedi Rocks? I've noticed others say this in the thread.

This:

Sorry to inflict it upon you.

It's the most jarring scene tonally in the whole OT, the CGI is terrible, the song is annoying and the CG characters pose and look at the camera, totally breaking the 4th wall.

IMO it's the worst change in the whole "Saga".

I thnk its the official name for the new musical sequence in "Return of the Jedi", which was first done for the 1997 release. The title's kinda confusing though, since the song itself has nothing to do with the Jedi Knights.

On a different note - the FSK that rates movies here in germany has tested some more material from the upcoming Blu-Ray Set:
Star Wars Episode IV - A New Hope (Blu Ray Version) (New Edition) 125 Minutes (24 fps)
Star Wars Episode II - Attack Of The Clones (Blu Ray Version) 142 Minutes (24 fps)

Movies that are released again on a new medium are only reviewed by the FSK if they are indeed altered versions or different cuts. LotR for example has not been reviewed again for it's Blu-Ray outing...

Furthermore on Disc 7 there is something called "Boba Fett: First Look" (8:39 Minutes)
That's the Boba Fett-Cartoon from the Holiday-Special I think...
See... It was in the ratings board clasification and quoted by a member in this very thread back in July Not a huge secret of a hidden easter egg. Not flaming, just expresing myself

I will refer to the movies with the #s 1-6 as in episodes 1-6.

The first two movies (1 and 2) look very good. I don’t personally like film grain so for me these movies looked amazing. Keep in mind I watch my TV on vivid picture mode so even the softer parts look very clean, bright, and full of color and detail. If I watched movies on theater mode like I know a lot of people do then I could see how they might be too soft but in vivid I give both movies an easy 4.5-5 for picture.

The 3rd (ROTS) movie is an easy 5 for picture and some parts are as good as avatar. What a fun movie to watch.

For audio these 3 movies are simply some of the best multi-channel audio on the planet. Just giving them a 5 for sound isn’t enough. I have a lot of great audio blu rays but the work they did on these is another level of detail wow nice job.

Movie 4 (new hope) is the only movie that didn’t wow me. The sound was ok but on the really loud parts it falls apart and even distorted on some stuff. It also had a really brassy sound that was a huge drop from the clean sounding audio from movies 1, 2 and 3. I would give it a 3 for audio and a 4 for picture.

Movies 5 and 6 look amazing. It was like I was watching these movies for the first time (even though I have these movies over 10 times each). They look so good that it was hard for me to pay attrition sometimes because I was looking all around at the back grounds and details. I give these a 4.5 and in some places a perfect 5 for picture.

The audio for 5 and 6 was a great improvement from movie 4 new hope. Still not the reference levels of the 1, 2 and 3 but better than they have ever sounded and are both a strong 4 for audio.

If just comparing these movies to other old movies they would rank higher but I’d rather just rate them vs everything.

Overall I’m actually shocked how good they did on these. I do recommend for people that watch movies in a theater type mode for their TV picture to try a vivid or dynamic mode. These movies have no grain so going vivid or dynamic is really a nice mode for these.
Pre T TPM P/A /4.5/5
AOTC 4.5/5
ROTS 5/5
Original ANH 4/3
ESB 4.5/4
ROTJ 4.5/4
Please tell me you wee joking!!!

Terrible.

Hoth, Endor is a sparsely populated forrest with some Ewoks, you never see Alderaan or Correllia or anything. Bespin is as close as they come to having a real city, and I still get the sense I'm looking at the same few hallways over and over, just shot from different angles. The PT will never be able to replace the OT for me, but at least now I've come to terms with it enough that I'm happy that they share the same box on my shelf.
Glad you enjoy them more now.

Sorry, I didn't mean to lecture or cause offense - I guess I'm really talking to the hundreds of other posts here and elsewhere that are complaining bitterly about these changes. They used to bother me, but I finally just let it go and now I can enjoy the movies again and not concern myself with what I don't have.

Have watched AOTC and hald of ROTS today, as well as TPM with my gf.

AOTC has better PQ than TPM, and the sound is about the same level of pure awesomeness.

ROTS rocked so far.

Still bummed about the DNR in TPM.

It felt better the 2nd time around, because I wasn't looking for the BD clarity anymore, but it's still such a missed opportunity.

I have to say that it leads very nicely into AOTC now.

Btw., totally in love with the new Yoda in TPM!!

The acting and his looks are a billion times better.

I want that one in all the movies!
I honestly hope GL will do that one day, and yes, I wish you will get your UOT in glorious HD, so that you can see all the glaring flaws in supreme detail.

I agree. The other changes are like "oh come onnn" and you roll your eyes, but that one is just flabbergasting. It's so dreadful it drags the whole scene down with it.

You have the dark, dank Jabba's palace, full of menacing creatures and a menacing score... brooding... sinister...

ONE TWO THREE! Wacky pop song with nonsensical lyrics, bad CG characters mugging for the camera, backup singers and dancers, the whole tone is suddenly that of a really awful pre-Pixar kids film.

Then it's over and we're supposed to just accept that Jabba's palace is still dark, sinister, menacing...

Hah.
