Don't fret, gents. History has our back on this one.

They will re-release the whole thing, including the UOT, in like a 15-disc Ultimate Complete The Complete Star Wars Saga of True Completionism in a couple of years. There is always an anniversary for one of the movies releases to coincide with a new home video release.

They need to fix the Phantom Menace transfer, obviously, and the audio mix in ROTS. Wouldn't mind them changing all those bloody annoying pure pink frames in A New Hope as well.

Will I buy it again? Yep, I'm a sheep.

Looking at the sales... I guess no one cared about the changes lol

I enjoyed all the movies on blu ray.. but overall the prequels were my favorite. The original is just too out of date, and becomes a distraction... I guess CGI and the improvement of special effects in Hollywood has spoiled me!

The movies speak to me because they are designed to illustrate the hero's journey and the dynamic and evoltion of the human psyche. If you learn to quiet your mind one day they will be speaking to you. But it's like with the cave on Dagobah (or with art in general): You'll only find what you bring with you!

A version by the "critics" (lets call them that) would be terrible... It would have been a carbon copy of the old movies just with the plot of a video-game. Anakin would have no psychological depth. He would have been a "badaass", angry soldier from the get go who would easily and quickly turn to the dark side. No virgin-birth, no mother, no love-story, no midichlorians, no funny sidekicks, no republic turning into an Empire... Just Battlefields and spacebattles like in a "Force Unleashed" video-game or in a Cameron-movie.

If Star Wars had turned out that way I would have lost interest in the franchise immediately.
I like a lot of what you say. I've never been a fan of labels like 'apologist,' 'hater,' or anything else that attempts to blanket-categorize (I made that phrase up and you're all welcome) a work of art or way of thinking as one thing and one thing only. Getting into an artist's head is just not possible. The work itself is all you have to go on. So, there's really no wrong answer and if there is, who cares? The many requests in this thread to stop talking about one aspect of the movies just come across as someone desperately trying to get control of something because control of their own lives eludes them.

I don't think every last facet of these movies is full of mythological resonance- much of what's there boils down to cool lights, music and explosions. But to completely write off what is mythologically intended is short-sighted. To call someone uninformed does carry the weight of snobbery. But on the other hand, to laugh at somebody for the meaning they get out of something is the other side of the same coin.

I'm reminded of something Scorsese said in regards to Cape Fear when he got carried away taking about the plot as religious allegory- modern man as Job or something like that. He quickly corrected himself and said 'Forget it. It's a thriller. Go see it and if you like it, then look for whatever else is there.' I think this is a pretty good rule of thumb.

Finally, I've got to add to people making fun of what other people get out of Star Wars: you know, you ARE in a thread... about Star Wars. So, there's that.

Not really a good barometer to tell who cares or doesn't care.

People who even knew there were changes are a drop in the bucket compared to J6P sales that Star Wars traditionally gets.

Then there are the folks like me, who are A) Blu-ray fanatics that need all high profile releases in their hands on day one B) don't like the changes but put up with them because it's the only way to legally own the parts we really love in HD C) We are completionist nutjobs D) All of the above.

I definitely care, I could easily do without 3-4 changes and find them bothersome, but I'll suck it up because ESB, one of my favorite movies, looks and sounds fantastic and has barely been tinkered with, I like the bevy of extras, I wanted to give the PT a second chance...

Just saying there's a difference between "caring" and "boycotting".

Listen for yourselves. I really don't know how they missed it, it's baffling, since it was night and day for me, and a lot of other people.

It sounds neutered and restrained.

Restrained? Definitely disagree there. I watched it on my system a few nights ago and thought it was demo worthy.

I am a little confused. Let me just make sure I got this right in my head. Star Wars made more money, but Thor moved more units? Is that right?

I think I was preparing myself for the CG in AOTC to be horribly distracting in high def, and I actually thought it looked great. If anything, I thought the CG and practical effects blended pretty seamlessly compared to the dvd.

Edit: was trying to quote El Jay, above and for some reason it didn't quote.

Cool. Disagree.

There are a lot of people really disappointed with it.

I would use it as a demo, but only to show what a difference a good mix can make, by throwing in Eps I or II immediately after.

Star Wars' Breaks Blu-ray Sales Records
Posted September 23, 2011 01:12 AM by Jeffrey Kauffman

Variety is reporting that Star Wars has sold more than one million units in only a week on the market, shattering records for the high-definition format, and further cementing Blu-ray's dominance as the home video format of choice.

Despite an average list price of $79.99, the nine disc set generated more than $84 million in worldwide sales. U.S. sales accounted for $38 million of that total, with 515,000 units sold in North America.

The amazing thing is that Blu-ray is far from being the dominant format in the world. The old format (DVD) still rules by a huge margin. That's in stark contrast to 2004, when Star Wars DVDs arrived when VHS was already on life support. For Star Wars to have sold 1,000,000 Blu-ray copies in a DVD world... a disproportionately huge ratio of Blu-ray owners must've rushed out to buy the box set.

So once again, people are enjoying the latest incarnation of the Star Wars films in all their glory. Once again, George Lucas is laughing his way to the bank. And once again, the angry nerds are left fuming and frothing and ranting on the internets...

Agreed. I really despise the behavior of some celebrities, who let the fame and attention go to their heads, and either forget or ignore the fans who supported their career in the first place. In my opinion, if you can't show genuine, selfless appreciation to the people who enjoy your work, then you need to find another profession.

I'm with ya on this one, but sadly, insults are pretty common these days for the politically correct crowd.

I love it when Star Wars fans use words like 'hater.' Reminds me of how 'cool' Jar Jar "Paris Hilton" Binks sounds when he says: "That is pretty hot!" in TPM. Gag. Weez. Don't be hatin' ya'll....

Thank you. I don't care to read about this % and that %. Just tell me who made the most money and who moved the most units. Not that any of this really matters, but its fun statistics to know I suppose.

I don't think that's what Guinness was doing.

To him, he was a respected actor who was in it for the love of the craft, the challenge, being part of a society of like-minded actors... his entire body of work was completely overshadowed and practically forgotten because of a role he took in a hokey sci-fi movie in 1977. Instead of being "Sir Alec Guinness" he'd probably be called "BEN! HEY! BEN KENOBI! MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU!" on a day-to-day basis.

Imagine how tiring that would get. Nobody even knows your name or has any idea you were in other movies, and you're just "Obi-Wan" for the rest of your days. I can see where he's coming from, for sure. It's not "letting it go to his head", it's wishing he could still go to the grocery store without fanatic nerdboys popping wood and asking you to write "May the Force be with you" on their Tesco receipts.

Harrison Ford doesn't seem too fond of the SW movies either, but it doesn't affect how much I like his character in the flicks.

I agree - these are great numbers - making $85 million that fast - not bad on a "recycled" product (think about the effort to put this on blu-ray vs making a whole new movie). Also, think about how many films never even reach $85 million at all!

Anyone know the numbers that LOTR EE sold? That would be interesting to see how the EE sold against the SW set as they both are around the same price (within $10).
