Yep, that's Terence Stamp, who actually left the film industry behind for a short while, before being cast as Zod in the first "Superman" film. He reprised it for "Superman II", and would later go on to voice Jor-El on the "Smallville" TV series. The first time I saw "Phantom Menace", I didn't fully recognize him. I wish he would've had more screen time in the film.

Boss Nads and Jah Jah were designed to be 1000 times more annoying than the other Gungans, who actually seemed pretty cool. ILM worked long and hard on perfecting the annoyance algorithms. It is a little known fact that the entire prequel trilogy was Lucas' revenge for the Howard the Duck backlash. To this day he has never released that pain.

I didn't buy the PT. I felt the temptation. Being a recovering SW addict isn't an easy thing to deal with. Resisting buying the OT was even harder. But I didn't succumb to the demons screaming for me to keep feeding the Lucas machine in the end.
I did Netflix the damn things though lol. |

Have no idea why. A certain nameless HD fanedit is still the definitive OT SW presentation in my opinion... recreated the theatrical presentation beautifully - it will remain my go-to version. Still, I bought this. SW got me again, happens every time. The sick thing is, I'll almost certainly buy the next "version," too. And the next after that. The first two are two of (if not "the two") my favorite movies of all time, so it almost feels like an obligation. Or compulsion. I don't like any of the PT movies but I figured I'd buy the whole thing, two of my nephews really like them so they'll be well-watched, at least. |

Just did Empire Strikes Back. Another terrific transfer.... just amazing. Solid audio too.
As for the movie - I dont rate ESB #1 like a lot of people seem to. Its a good entry in the series, as are all SW films, but New Hope has better pacing and just works better overall. As much as some people say ANH gets a little slow during the initial droid stuff in the beggining and on tatooine, I can say the same thing about ESB. I feel the middle of ESB drags ever so slightly. The reasoning is that the Yoda mumbo jumbo Force talk doesnt carry the weight it did when I saw it for the first time. I get all the "force" stuff. I believe this is a by product of seeing the film 356, 789 times ![]() Couple other issues too: Vader just choking every officer after various mess-ups for some reason is a little silly to me. I get that hes angry and a bad ass but is this REALLY how it would go? Who would take those jobs when throiugh no fault of your own you could be asphyxiated(sp?) on the spot in front of the other generals. I dunno. Threepio gets all Jar-Jar on us. He isnt funny and his attempted comic relief is ill-timed and doesnt have the intended effect. He wasnt like this in ANH, even though he did get on R2's case a lot. The whole "bumbling threepio" act is almost as annoying as Jar Jar, IMO. Before you go typing death threats.... I like ESB. Im just pointing out a few things that are a little iffy to me. ESB has some extremely awesome moments: The Hoth battle, The Bespin "twist" when the door opens for "dinner" and Vader is sitting there - thats the best scene ever. The revelation that Vader tells Luke is obviously mega-important. And, the wildly unexpected ending where Han gets frozen is still an epic moment in the series. ![]() and yes, i bet that is how it would go (with his men). its like the mafia: everyone knows that they might get shot at any moment, by their best friend, but keep playing the game, either because they're not allowed to cash out or because they get off on the suspense and danger of the job |

Count me among those that have experienced the DTS bomb during A New Hope. I was skipping chapters and when I got to Chapter 16, I got a real nice 'DTS Bomb'. I have an Onkyo 805 and I am bit streaming from my Oppo. I never had issues with the DTS bomb from several years ago and was quite surprised when I heard it (but not as surprised as my dog!). I know I can just change the setting so the Oppo does the decoding, but I'm really hoping to get a firmware update for the 805. Hopefully, it won't be too long of a wait.

Not sure. I just read on the AVS forums that several other people have experienced it as well. Those that have, also have an Onkyo receiver. Supposedly, if you let the player do the decoding, it shouldn't happen. I really don't want to try it again. It only happens when you are skipping chapters or pausing the movie and starting it again. So far, I have only noticed it during Chapter 16.

Whoa, wait. Nobody move. Clearly there's a question here about how exactly Vader felt during these scenes. Hopefully Lucas fixes this in a future version with an added Vader voice-over. It's just obviously too vague as it is. |

Which means that it was likely specifically meant to only be picked up or decoded by the Queen's Ship. Sidious mentions that tracking the ship isn't impossible for a Sith. It's believed that the "Trace" that Maul mentions isn't a location trace from their equipment. But sensing their location through the force. Rememer, the Jedi weren't aware of the return of the Sith yet. So Sio Bibble's dire warning of what is happening on Naboo was meant to cause an emotional reaction. Warning them that people were "Suffering and Dying" would probably create a disturbance in the force for those watching/sensing for it. That's how I have always taken the scene. Though they could have just as easily piggie-backed the transmission. Last edited by Beast; 09-25-2011 at 05:08 AM. |
