Is there a transcript or vid of this interview anywhere on the net?

Was it pride? Jealousy of the world he had created? I've heard Orson Scott Card say he considered letting others write about Ender and the universe Ender lives in, but he has since decided not to, admitting that he became jealous of the thought of someone else writing about his character.

And why didn't he take his time making part 2 and 3 then? Or...why even make them at all? Just announce to the world that you decided you only wanted to do the introduction of Anakin as a stand alone film, but let other writers and the imaginations of SW fans have fun filling in the rest. Why go introverted over the whole deal and just push blindly forward?

It sounds like he was just scared. He had spent too many years with people loving him and what he created, and when he bit off more than he could chew he got understandably afraid.

Man, what a sad state of affairs for everyone.

News Flash: There is nothing wrong with the prequel trilogy. Lucas is more happy about how they turned out than he was with the OT and millions of fans love these movies. I've even heard of a first-timer (yes, a grown-up) who has recently watched Episode 1 on BluRay as the first Star Wars movie. She really liked it, especially JarJar and Anakin! The hand ful of disappointed "fans" isn't representative at all. The sales-numbers speak for themselves.

Jesus. How uncomfortable. I love John Stewart, and I know TDS is about comedy, but I couldn't finish that. Three seconds into sitting down and he just starts raping Lucas right there on the show.

Watch the whole thing, Lucas comes off as a normal person, not some egotistical control-freak.

The critical backlash apparently really stung Lucas and he became known for saying "it doesn't matter" or "this is SW logic, so it doesn't have to make total sense" or "that's good enough" a lot. This is what people I knew at ILM told me at the time. They kept warning me to manage my expectations for AOTC. I also read an article that came out a few months after TPM was released that supposedly quoted Lucas as being overheard at some party saying "I wish I had never decided to go back to Star Wars." I can't remember who he was talking to, but this wasn't just some gossipy article.

I can't see how the reaction to the PT couldn't have stung, no matter what he says. But then again I can't believe what he actually delivered. And his excuses! Crazy!

Bad writing? No, they are written to be like that. On purpose.

Bad acting? No, they are designed to be like old pulp movies. Bad acting is on purpose. That's the style I'm going for.

Main character not likeable? That's on purpose.

Loopholes? All of these types of movies have loopholes.

Something doesn't make sense? Well, these were always designed to be just kids movies.

And my favourite:

"These movies always get bad reviews." Uh, no George, actually the OT was pretty much well reviewed.
The old trilogy got comparable reviews with the exception of Star Wars. Reviews on aggregators (sp) like Rotten Tomatoes contains many more recent reviews that have the benefit of hindsight and aren't entirely accurate. But I'm not trying to downplay the OT. I love it dearly.

And I'm not someone who explains away the faults of The Prequels. I like them in spite of the faults, and I'm not someone who is uninformed or ignorant of what a good movie is. I'm just a cup-half-full kinda guy.

Anyone have a chance to check this scene out on their system and see if they experienced the same thing?

I really don't understand why everybody feels so compelled to over analyze the PT. I just have a few beers, and a bowl or two, and they're freakin' fantastic! I've said it before, to me the PT is like riding a roller coaster. They're not works of art, just big dumb fun. Yippie!

Heh. I've always known about the extensive use of models and miniatures in Phantom Menace, but after going through the BD extras even I was surprised by how many were used. But that's the thing; if these good folks hate Phantom Menace as much as they say, then why would they bother watching the extras for it? So they're none the wiser, bless 'em.

To my eyes the CG integrates surprisingly well on Blu-ray, not least because little touches like the ersatz lens artefacts were lost in SD. Then again, I don't have a pathological dislike of digital effects. I guess that helps.

Does adding all the extra effects to the word help you in some way? How about a marquee to finish it off? Should we battle this one out to infinity x2?

Same goes for AOTC and ROTS, lots of physical models were used, watch the docus and look at the making of books.
