Having been one who has experienced racism first hand, I can honestly say that I took zero offense at Jar Jar. I truly believe people are projecting their own thoughts and feelings into the character so that they have a more reasoned argument for hating him. As for Anakin and Padme's relationship, I think it was supposed to be a flip side of Han and Leia's. Han's relationship with Leia made sense in how it evolved. Han wasn't a virgin when he met Leia. He had grown up around women. Anakin hadn't. He was a confused kid with issues of co-dependency. Padme was exactly the same. They both took responsibility for each other. Anakin focused on the fact that he couldn't save his mother and took it upon himself that he would stop this from happening to him again. Padme saw Anakin as "that little boy from Tattooine." She felt responsible for him slaughtering the Sand People, which is why she comforted him. At the very end of ROTS she's still taking responsibility by telling Obi-Wan that there was still good in him, but she couldn't live with herself because of what he had done. CLASSIC CO-DEPENDECY ISSUES! Their love didn't evolve the way Han & leia's did because it was built on a foundation of co-dependency, so it was destined to fail. I think alotta people's problem is that they thought they were gonna witness an amazing love story, but it wouldn't and couldn't have gone that way. Like I typed before, Anakin ain't gonna have no mack daddy skills without chicks to play off of!
Look, I had the same experience with each prequel. silence. nervous, stunned smattering of applause at the end. my girlfriend at the time was also a huge sw freak and we drove home in silence. we couldn't even speak.the crowd exiting was in shock. silent, mumbling, dejected. i'm not lying just to make a point. the next day there was a shitstorm of negative reviews. on tv. on the internet. from friends. it felt like the apocalypse. so yeah, maybe not all screenings were like that, but all the ones i was at were. it still made tons of money because no one could believe how bad it was! not the people yet to see it and not even the ones who had!

as for the racism "people bring their own projections" thing, and that people cried racism just to argue their point, well that is total BS. I mean, of course I projected my own feelings! jar jar sounded and acted like stepin fetchit. watching stepin fetchit makes me uncomfortable. he reminded me of stepin fetchit, therefore i felt uncomfortable. his ears remind me of dreadlocks. so i guess i am a racist because stepin fetchit makes me cringe, and the voice and ears make me want to go back to jamaica. i don't think for one second it actually is racist, but it was close enough to make me squirm in my seat. i would have hated the character even if he looked and acted like Carlton or Carrot Top. the unfortunate similarities to one of cinema's most embarrassing characters just made it worse.

this is the most damning piece of evidence against TPM I've ever seen....in the first few minutes. The look on George's face when he screens the movie for the first time is priceless. "I may have gone too far in a few places." Rick McCallum looks mortified. Like he had just seen a corpse come to life feasting on human flesh. Pretty sad video.

but who cares, Lucas made like $500 mill off that movie. Yaaaay.

Yeah, I agree. It's like everyone there wanted to say something about how bad it was, but couldn't.

And that talking pizza roll didn't helping anything either.

Whoops, sorry. Thought this was an OPEN forum. I guess this thread is only for the group of regulars who post here daily. Also, you seem to be the one trying to offend. I was only replying to the statement that everybody hated it. I mean, you have my intentions all wrong, so maybe you were wrong in your assumptions about the people around you (shouldn't you be watching the movie anyway?). And why can't I address more than one issue (and person) in a single post? Do I really haveta quote everybody in back-to-back posts, because I don't have time for that crap. I've posted on many different forums and haven't had this kinda confusion from any others. I thought it was obvious that the rest of the post wasn't directed at you because I figured you knew what you said and it wasn't in the same paragragh that was directed at you. Guess I was wrong. Good-flippin'-gravy! You can have your thread back.

5 down 1 to go..only return of the jedi left ...Revenge of the Sith ep III is the best of the lot for audio/video quality...that being said...so far i have been very happy with the audio of all of the movies and only TPM, as already mentioned over and over, comes in last for video

That was amazing. To see those clips outside of the Lucas spin machine...my god...it really explains everything in perfect clarity. what a train wreck.

You do realize how a "First Cut" works, right? They're usually 2x - 3x as long as the finished product. Which considering how long the Star Wars films are, is an insanely draining experience. They're filled with unfinished effects. And feature very little finished sound and music. There's a reason most documentaries don't show people after viewing the first cut. Because it's an exhaustive process to sit through. That reaction was before any of the cutting and final effects work is done. And you also have to remember these people have been filming these films for months on end as well.

yeah...but when even the DIRECTOR HIMSELF is disgusted with what he sees, even on a first cut, that speaks volumes.

my god, even when Lucas HIMSELF is disappointed with his work, you still swoop in to defend him. LMAO

Um, yeah. Right.

Anyway, how is it possible I have never seen this before? It's absolutely hilarious and 100 times more fun than the actual movie! Thanks to whoever posted this, I'm watching the whole thing laughing out loud.

And don't forget, it was all adults in that room and TPM wasn't aimed at adults anyway.

It's from The Beginning documentary from the E1 DVD. It not like some magical footage stolen and snuck out of Lucasfilm.

I know that genius. See my previous post about seeing these clips outside of the Lucas spin.... oh forget it.

If anyone on here still enjoys TPM, don't watch these things. I thought I had a pretty good list of all the stupid shit in this movie, but this guy breaks it down like you wouldn't believe.

That documentary on TPM is a great, honest, insightful look at the filmmaking process.

The Doof - Red Letter Media has spoof reviews on all three prequels. They're a bit long and repetitive, as well as filled with a great deal of odd humor and weird subplots of kidnapping and pizza rolls, but they really do make sound points about the fundamental flaws of the prequels.

Oh, this is those things? yeah, I've heard of them. I think I avoided them at the time because I was still in a Beast mind-set. Im sure everyone here has seen them then, but damn I am enjoying them. Lucas should be ashamed. There are things in the OT, like flying right straight at the AT-AT's instead of attacking from behind, but this PT stuff is just mind-blowing.

Eh? I'm confused. I wasn't defending anything. re-read my post. I was asking why, if the PT's are supposed to be so good why all this endless explanation is needed to make them make sense, and to cover up all the mistakes and acting/writing deficiencies.

By referring to them as kids films I wasn't defending anything at all, quite the opposite.

I think one of us has misunderstood the other's post old chap.

I genuinely enjoyed those Red Letter Media reviews more than the films themselves. Even my uninterested wife really enjoyed them. If you look past the (intentional) droning voice and them silly yet amusing subplots then the guy tears the PT to pieces both articulately and with sound logic and facts. A must see for anyone with an open mind on the subject.

"When I'M the Queen, I'm going to make you clean toilets!"

I think I never looked at these because I thought, "yeah, yeah, I've done the same kind of thing in my head already."

But whatever reservations I had with TPM, they did not even come close to the stuff being pointed out here. On the plus side, they have just made TPM more fun if I ever watch it again.

His reviews are fun and very entertaining, but honestly a lot of his criticisms can be applied to the OT. I mean, RLM can easily make an anti-Plinkett character for the original three.

Take the beginning of Jedi. Leia attempts to sneak Han out of Jabba's during the night...after seeing Chewie locked away to some unknown cell? Why didn't Boushh enter during the day, pretending to look for work, then rescue Han at night?

What about the Battle of Hoth. "That armor's too strong for blasters!" Huh....didn't they just blow up that fallen ATAT by shooting at it?

I believe that was because they hit it's week spot on it's neck.

But if Luke would have used his X-Wing instead of that nifty 'snowspeeder', it would never have even been an issue anyway.
