I hate what's become of this thread. There's no formal discussion on anything interesting. Plinkett's review was entertaining but it didn't sway any of my opinions on the film.

Sure it is. Because like any art form, the quality is subjective and all comes down to opinion.
As they say, "Beauty Is In The Eye of The Beholder". It's the same is true of movies and any form of art.
To crib from Obi-Wan Kenobi, it's all comes down to a certain point of view. Rejoice in different opinions!

Except something like that doesn't have any place in Star Wars. Imagine a scene from the Stooges doesn't in Lord of the Rings.
You mean like all the bad comedy bits focusing on Gimli in the films? Or numerous other comedy moments?

Even the coach of the Florida Gators thinks Jar Jar is lame.

In your opinion! I've watched the original movies hundreds of times and was fully immersed in the Star Wars universe (just the movies - no expanded universe). When I saw JarJar for the first time I thought "Yes, that's 100% Star Wars!" I honestly don't see the big difference between Jar Jar and Chewbacca OR Qui Gon and Ben OR Anakin and Luke OR Han Solo and Obi Wan OR Padme and Leia.

Star Wars is NOT Lord Of The Rings! Having said that: Mary and Pippin are at least two Stooges!

The extended pod-race scenes are really blurry, it's not DNR or anything, the shots look like they were upscaled. This is especially clear in the scene where the racers are introducing themselves.. I wish there was seamless branching to allow us to view the theatrical cut. The new aliens look too cartoony as well.

I'll take the satisfaction that I don't need to sit and constantly refresh and complain in the Dark Knight thread. I have a whole 32 posts in the Dark Knight Megathread and 15 in the Scott Pilgrim thread. And those are movies I hate as much as you guys seem to hate the PT. And those posts arn't spent mocking the fans. Would be nice if people would allow those who actually want to enjoy talking about Star Wars, including the Prequels to do it. Rather than ranting constantly about how much you hate everything. Guess that everyone needs a hobby... even if it's constantly complaining about something. Sad really.

Carry on. It's just a shame that the lines of dialogue in Kevin Smith's Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back about the internet rings more true every year.

Now that's not to say I consider any of you "sad, pathetic little bastard living in their parents' basements", but the part about being seemingly obsessed with talking about movies and actors you claim to despise certainly seems to ring true about the internet in general anymore.

I must confess, I did enjoy the Star Wars Special Edition when it came to theaters back in the 90's. But I think it is awful and hipocritical of George Lukas of making changes to a masterpiece without giving the fans a choice. I guess I'm in the minority as one who will not purchase the new Star Wars. I bought the DVD a while ago and hated seeing Hayden Christiansens face on the old Aniken ghost. It was awful.

As a whole, the PT was actually ok and provides a substantial amount texture to the main Star Wars universe as a whole.
The thing is now a days people deal in absolute (sorry I did not mean it to sound like that ) but it is true that they do.

Look at forums and messages board all over the Internet....movies are either EPIC or CRAP People have no middle ground. A few scenes in the movie are not good, forget that 70% of it is very entertaining, the movie is a total crapfest Plus everyone fancy themselves connaiseurs and that their opinions are the right one and that if someone else feel that the movie is not really that bad, they are idiots, childish and imbecile who are accepting everything Hollywood gives them, as such the popular fanboy expression.

Plus it just work in reverse, some just accept everything single bad movie ever made and drink it all up with eagerness and are always demanding for more and are more then happy to argue and call others idiot for not agreeing with them.

There is just no middle ground, it's either black or white.

Has anyone ever watched Star Wars stuff in this following order?

The Phantom Menace
Attack of the Clones
Clone Wars Volume 1 cartoon
Clone Wars Volume 2 cartoon
Clone Wars movie cartoon
Clone Wars Season 1 cartoon
Clone Wars Season 2 cartoon
Clone Wars Season 3 cartoon
Revenge of the Sith
A New Hope
Bobba Fett Holiday Special cartoon
The Empire Strikes Back
The Return of the Jedi
Ewok Adventures: Caravan of Courage
Ewok Adventrues: Battle for Endor

I don't know where the Ewok and Droids cartoons would fit.

I agree totally. Except that, well, movies and taste are basically 100% subjective. Saying Phantom Menace isnt a good film from an objective standpoint doesnt work. If a person loves TPM, then its awesome to them - just like you said.

How would they ever establish measurable criteria to judge a film(or any other piece of art) with? If something is going to be declared "good" and you are going to call it objectively "good" then there MUST be tangible, measurable data to back that up & prove it. High ratings or low ratings on RT or IMDB are NOT objective data.

Diferent example: "My car is fast" = subjective & opinion based. "My car goes 175 mph" = objective and FACT based since we have something to go on and measure to.

There can never be any absolutes with film tastes and ratings. There are always people who will dislike a popular film and love a critically-panned film. Like Palpatine said - "Good is a point of view".

HUH? That review is VERY academic. Have you ever taken a film theory class? He explains why the prequels fail not only as Star Wars films, but also on the most basic, fundamental levels of movie-making as well. "Nerdrage rant"? You CLEARLY didnt watch a single second of that review. Its like a Christian refusing to watch an Agnostic explain why he chooses not to follow any particular religion and automatically writing his beliefs off just because he considers him a "heathen".

The fact that they call it a film THEORY class means that its based on theories so there isnt any factual data presented. The prequels fail in HIS OPINION. There is no factual data here. Its like saying "I like the color orange and its the best". "If you like blue then you have failed".

Lots of people enjoy the prequels even though they do have flaws(like any film). Forget this fundamental & theory gibberish. Normal people dont care about what some pretentious film theory professor has to say.

The Ewoks cartoon takes place shortly after the Ewoks movies (a few years after RotJ).

The Droids cartoon takes place between III and IV.

(Both have oddly never gotten a full release on home video... I really had hope that at least Droids would have its entire run put out on DVD, but I guess not.)

Yes, Lucas wins.

Can you please give us some more specs and info regarding X-wings and their combat capabilities in atmosphere?

The Ewok cartoon released on DVD is not the full series, just some episodes?
