Not only do you have exceedingly bad taste, but you don't even do your homework! The LOTR trilogy got 18 Oscars, which is 18 more than your beloved Prequels. Also, I think that serious film fans would consider that a film's Oscar wins and status in the National Film Registry to be mark of superior quality. But then again, you wouldn't know the first thing about that, would you?

Ummm, considering I think RotJ is the second best film in the Saga and AotC's is the second worse film in the Saga... clearly I love aspects of both parts of the Saga more than other aspects. So that's just a nonsensical comment. I love them all, but I have my favorites.

His role was underwritten, that doesn't mean he had the least lines, it means his role was not fleshed out and developed. Character development. They needed more.
He had more than enough character development. Everything about his character and his motivations is there. The only thing that would have helped flesh it out more was the deleted scenes talk between Jocasta Nu and Obi-Wan in the Jedi Archives. Thankfully the Clone Wars has added more also.

[Show spoiler]His death was pretty underwhelming. He has a 2 minute fight with Anakin, then Anakin decaps him with little fanfare, and only a moment of "whoa, that's not the Jedi code... oops".
That fight was longer than 2 minutes. And again, certainly beats the ANH Saber battle. It had more energy and more passion.

Christopher Lee deserved better.
Outside of his role as Saruman, it was one of the best roles he's had in ages.
Quote:
I do like his role, but come on, you don't need to defend every single criticism of everything related to the PT.
Who's defending every criticism? I'm simply disagreeing with the ones I feel different about.

What is this I don't even...

Not only did it win awards, it won the award: The Academy Award for Best Motion Picture. Not like, just best costume design, best sound design, best catering, but Best Picture.

Joking?

I was more referring to the snubs directed at Peter Jackson.
Besides, ever since Lucas cut ties with the Director's Guild none of the films have had a chance.

Not really. Winning a few awards or getting in the NFR doesn't mean anything.
Especially when the Oscars don't tend to agree with the average moviegoers anyway.

Sure I do. I just don't mindlessly enjoy something because awards and other people tell me to.

Let's talk about something else Star Wars related. You guys have seen how this goes, and goes, and goes, for hundreds of pages. You might as well be arguing with a can of beans at this point.

The sky is blue! No, actually, that's just your opinion, light refracted over the moon blah blah blah...

Anyone else dug into the special features? What are you digging the most?

Special Features? I still need to get through the OT disc fully. But I'm loving all the interviews and the costume/prop turnarounds.

And the Archival Commentary tracks on each of the films offer a wealth of interesting information. They're definately worth a listen.

I really don't see how Lucas could improve on the extras department for the next release. Unless they find even more stuff in the Archives.

The "Definitive Collection" title used on the Laserdisc Boxset back in the day really is more deserving of this set in my opinion. I don't see it topped.

Yeah, getting a Oscar nomination for "Best Director" for FOTR and winning said award for ROTK is a really big snub. Other directors only dream of being snubbed like that!!! Any other gems of wisdom you want to share with us?

Beast, I love your enthusiasm man, but you are really stretching credibility with this statement. Aside from the technical achievement awards, there is no way in hell any of the prequels would have been considered (and were indeed not considered) for best picture, director, actor, script, and so on...

In all fairness, it's probably more accurate to refer to it as a love/hate relationship that many people have with Star Wars. It's not as simple as just hating it and calling it a day. The changes over the years with a refusal to release quality editions of the UOT, the (in many people's opinions) sub-par quality of the PT just puts a bad taste in many people's mouths. It doesn't mean that they entirely hate Star Wars. Heck, it doesn't mean that they hate everything about the prequels. There are things about them that I like, for instance, but at the end of the day they were still (IMO) sub par compared to what they should have been.

By contrast in your case, you've been adamant about your hatred for the Dark Knight from the get-go. And frankly even 32 posts is quite a bit dedicated to a movie that you seem to completely hate on almost every level. I could see one or two, but really once you get well past the double-digit category, you are really in no position to comment on other's tendencies to complain about films that they have issues with.

Stretching credibility? Beast's thoughts on Star Wars are already on par with a cosmic string; best characterized as being one-dimensional, incredibly long and exceedingly dense.

In my case, I love what Star Wars was between 1977-1983 (except for the 1978 Holiday Special, which was somehow even worse than the Prequels) and hate what's happened to it from 1997 onwards. Actually, the Holiday Special and the Prequels do share some similarities, those being the terrible writing and being made primarily for the money (i.e. royalties for the Holiday Special; merchandising in the case of the Prequels.)

Again, many of those posts were praising the extras. Which I have said time and time again were fantastic. And well worth buying the movie for. Or about the Rifftrax. Or even answering questions, such as in regard to the changing aspect ratios which confused some people. So yes, I am in a position to do so. Cause I'm not sitting in the thread and insulting people for hundreds of posts who do like the film. Just like I have never posted in the Godfather thread either.

So one minute LOTR "didn't win any awards" (which was about as factually incorrect as it gets) and then the next "awards just don't matter". Funny how one minute you use awards (or lack there of) as part of the basis for your argument, but then the next when corrected on how utterly wrong you were, it just suddenly "doesn't matter". Not that you had many left to begin with, but you just lost any credibility points that you had left. In fact, your credibility account now has a HUGE negative balance.

While the Academy Awards don't always go in favor of public opinion, LOTR was a huge blockbuster franchise and won many Oscars including the absolute top Oscar possible. You don't have to care one way or the other, but it is a major achievement in the world of film and to say it doesn't matter is rather ludicrous. Heck, I'm not even that big of a fan of the LOTR movies, and even I can see the importance in this.

At least a can of beans wouldn't make such glarringly ridiculous contradictions like the example above.

Oh and while we are on the subject, I'd like the see a movie about George Wendt eating beans..

Many of your posts come across as being much more insulting and antagonistic than you seem to realize or want to admit. But you like to live in your own little world where you believe that this just "can't be."

Maybe George Lucas used Bothan spies to get a full technical readout of Steve Jobs' "reality distortion field", but hired cut-rate contractors when he constructed his own copy of it in the basement of Skywalker Ranch. That would explain why PT-based delusions of quality are somewhat wide-spread, but not as prevalent as Apple-worship.

/note: I don't care either way about Apple or any iProduct.

Christopher Lee had the most lines in AOTC? Huh? That can't be, can it? He surely can't have more than the principal three actors.

I just linked to every post. The most I did was agree that it was overrated and not as good as the Burton films.

And it's a legitimate opinion that Ledger only got the Oscar because of his death. So what?

And it's funny how rather than discuss the films... you and others would rather attack the people you disagree with. Charming.
