Add another person to that list Sure there are some things I may not fully agree with that he's done, but the man gave us Star Wars. There his movies, he can really, honestly, do whatever he wants with them. I can't wait to pick up the blu rays next year

I feel exactly the same way. I saw ANH in theaters when I was 8 and ESB at 11. Those were unforgettable memories way back when and I sincerely thank Lucas for that.

Like you said he's done some things that I'm not totally on board with, but those things are his right. I just don't understand how some can get SO bent out of shape over that stuff. It's borderline creepy, but whatever.

And yeah I'll be picking these up day 1 next yr. for sure.

I think people just don't like the changes, which of course, is well within their own rights. Just because Lucas retains the rights to make changes does not necessarily mean the changes are good. Even good artists can produce crap.

They may be 'his' technically, legally, whatever, but for my money when an artist releases their work to the public it is partly the audiences and the creator should respect that. He gave us a couple of good films in a huge pimped-out franchise of meh as far as I'm concerned, and the things that annoy me about him far outweigh the things that I appreciate him for. But, hey, the franchise must have more fans than like, any other and evidently they're still buying, so...

This is because I, being 21, am not that interested in this release because I wasnt there when these movies were being released and want to know if its my tastes or the age factor.

I'd say your taste Marcus. I'm 20 and I'm highly anticipating this release. I've loved these movies ever since I was little, so it's going to be a great series to add to my blu collection

22. My first encounter with Star Wars was The Empire Strikes Back SE in 1997 (so I was 9). I didn't know what the heck was going on so I watched the series on VHS when I got the chance. It probably is a taste issue for you. I would call myself a fanboy since I can't tell you the name of the creature that gets its arm chopped off in the Cantina on Tatooine off hand, but I know as much as I just stated BUT I enjoy the movies enough to watch them every year or so.

I feel like Star Wars might be the kind of thing you have to have grown up with (or were around to see the releases) to fully enjoy and appreciate. Not necessarily be there for release, but still have seen it in your childhood. While I love the movies, I could imagine some people not being able to get into it at an older age. So much of how I feel about the series is just nostalgia from remembering watching the OT on VHS and seeing each of the new ones in theaters.

That same nostalgia is exactly why people get so heated over changes being made. It's like looking through a photo album and seeing that someone photoshopped all of your pictures to include things that weren't there, and randomly smeared poo on some of the pages. Sure, it's still the same base album underneath, but you feel someone has messed with something that was yours. And then smeared poo on it.

Not to draw things back into "that" conversation, but if I see Jabba in A New Hope again I'm gonna instantly feel the sting of the sets price tag.

But love or loathe the changes he's made to the film, and whatever your view on whether he's right to keep the original versions back, you cannot deny the impact he had on the film industry. The original Star Wars was a game changing event, it transformed the movie industry and blew open the possibilities of everything that was possible, far more so than Avatar did.

Film makers like Ridley Scott, James Cameron and Peter Jackson were inspired by Star Wars. The special effects industy took a huge leap forward. Lucas companies like Skywalker Sound, THX, Industrial Light & Magic were at the cornerstone of almost every major film release.

There was even a comment in the new Beauty and the Beast documentary that Star Wars had shown what was capable in live action, and Disney was struggling at the time to do anything like this in animation.

I think there are really very few movies out there which really did transform the industry in such a way, but Star Wars is one.

In terms of technical innovation and putting money back into the industry, I can't think of anyone in recent times who has done more than George Lucas. Yes, he's earned a lot of money from Star Wars, but he's also given a lot back. People should see the Empire of Dreams documentary on the original trilogy box set to get a real appreciation for what he accomplished against impossible odds.

The only other technical innovator that I can think of who transformed the movie industry on such a huge scale is Walt Disney.

Fine by me - I don't need completeness. I just want a BD copy of the 6 movies, however Lucas first releases them.

That will tide me over until the next format I adopt (which I'm hoping is not 3D).

In actual fact, he didn't milk the trilogy for all it was worth on DVD, and there's no reason to think they will be on Blu Ray.

There was the original 4 disc set.

The 2 disc single editions with the non-anamorphic original cuts.

And a recently repackaged couple of budget trilogy sets.

Just because something came out before you were born or before you were a teenager doesn't invalidate it. If that is a factor you may want to open you horizons.

Godfather and Exorcist came out before I was born, or when I was one in the Exorcist case, and I love both.

This is also the case for me in music, bands like Black Sabbath or Rush have cd's that came out in the late 60's early 70's and both are among my favorite bands.

29. I was 16 when I saw the SE in the theaters, so I wasn't a child anymore.
I used to play with SW toys at a friend's place when I was little, but had no idea about the movies. We didn't even have a TV.
Anyway, I remember being disappointed when the desert scene with R2 and C3PO came up, as I thought SW was Spaceballs, and I felt very bored at first, but then it got better, and better, and well, I immediately watched the whole trilogy in the theater the very same day, and got the SE VHS set day the day it came out, and two more, then the DVDs.
SW are my favorite movies ever, as they have everything that's great about cinema. No other movie can beat that IMHO.

I grew up watching the original trilogy (pre-SE - I am 30 now), and I love Star Wars! My favorite movie is Empire I can always watch Star Wars. I (overall) enjoy the Special Edition and was amazed by the changes made (despite some bad decisions such as Greedo shooting first). Mostly, I think it was the thrill of seeing the trilogy in theaters (as I was too young to see them in theaters and I had only seen them on TV or VHS).

I was stoked when Episode I came out, and I enjoyed it despite all of the naysayers! (Episode I is actually my favorite of the prequels). I was let down by Episode II and Episode III was overall good, but was lacking the feel of the OT for me.

I will always enjoy the original trilogy, which is why I wish that it would be restored alongside the SE trilogy (plus the historical significance of those films - the first one in particular). That said, I plan on buying the set the day it is released next year

But now, there will be more, different versions. There will be a 3D version, which is not what we're getting in 2011. Then there will be the original versions, which I am quite sure will be released seperately or as a seperate set rather than as part of something else. There's three different sets right there. I also know that he is having them all reworked again, as he has stated it in interviews (adding Grevous to AotC was confirmed by GL himself). Unless that is part of what we're getting next year, there's another set. Maybe the newest versions will indeed be what comes out in 3D? In that case, I'm sure we'll get 2D & 3D versions. Believe me, I'm not complaining. I love Star Wars, and I want as many versions as I can get. If I were responsible for one of the most important & beloved franchises in film history, I'd milk it too.
