If I want to get into a week long Star Wars jag, I sometimes watch 4,5,6, 1,2,3, 4,5,6. Start and end with the best movies, but lots of cool eye/ear candy in between. I would definitely recommend this order for newcomers. It amazes me that some people haven't seen Star Wars.

My very strange viewing order: III, IV, I, V, VI, II. III & IV have a good story arc and set each other up nicely. I really has no storyline arc other than Palpatine ascended to power. The Jedi do nothing but train a boy. Its a very standalone look back type of film. V & VI obviously have more in common than IV & V. Action taken in part V directly affects the storyline in VI. And part II is shown last to set up the Clone Wars cartoons.

Tolkien's Lord of The Rings was written way before Lucas even had the idea of making Star Wars.

Now, is it better to watch the movies from episode 4-5-6 then 1-2-3?, or should i just watch them in order? This will be the 1st time im watching the star wars series.
I think because the story of Star Wars is pretty well spoiled throughout America, your viewing order doesn't matter so much. I have watched them with a few people who had never seen them before and I tried the 456123 and 123456 way. The 1-6 way was better received actually.

The LOTR analogies are the Bashki movies that were otherwise considered unfilmable in live action and/or without animation. A muppet Balrog and/or Gollum could be pretty amusing, though.

Slaveknight is right, though. Without Star Wars there is no LotR live action movies.

That really makes no sense and is just a way to over-aggrandize Star Wars. there would be no Star Wars without 2001. So? Technology and influence can not be applied in this manner.

Says who? Maybe Star Trek, the Motionless Picture would have revolutionized SFX in a similar way, or maybe every SFX ladden movie would be kicked down the curb but there is a direct lineage readily apparent that branches off from Star Wars and LFL (even if you don't consider Pixar).

what can he do if he relies only in books. he even stated at the documentary called The Force is With Them: the Legacy of Star Wars 2004, he quotes “It certainly affected us, Lord of the Rings has an ethos, which is very much based on Star Wars, which is make everything believable, everything a bit dirty, a little bit run down, worn down, because that realism is the first building block towards making a connection with the characters. “ hope you watched that one
