Breaking news from #StarWarsCVI: Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith to be theatrically released in 3D back-to-back, September 20, 2013 and October 11, 2013 respectively.

My guess is they just want to get them out sooner rather than later. 1 a year is just too long to wait if you ask me. Hopefully we will get the OT in 2014 and a new 3D superset.

I'd settle for seperate releases though, with a bonus disc of the UOT included

If they were looking to do 2 films/year, I think it would make more sense to space them out more than a month apart.

Not for me, but I'm happy for anyone who is excited to see these in 3D.

I don't usually buy into 3D, especially for conversions. But for Star Wars, I will always make an exception.

I've given up on 3D a long time ago. Even for one of my favorite franchises in media all together, I will pass.

Before Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace came back to the theaters earlier this year converted for 3D, the plan was to bring the other five movies to theaters one at a time each year, but that has apparently changed. At the Star Wars Celebration VI event in Orlando (where we first found out about the Blu-ray release two years ago) Lucasfilm announced that Episodes II and III in 3D will be released in theaters back to back in fall of 2013, arriving September 20th and October 11th, respectively. Missing so far from the announcement? A reason for the back-to-back release or any word on Blu-ray 3D plans. In lieu of more details, although it means Attack of the Clones will come back later in the year than Phantom Menace did, with any luck this accelerated schedule is a good omen for the original trilogy's return. Of course, we'll have to wait and see what magic can be worked with those older film and special effects elements, however IGN apparently found an early preview of the Episode II 3D footage to be promising.

Meh, I dunno. I saw Phantom Menace in 3D and the 3D was non-existent.

I saw the footage from Episode II 3D ... I wasn't impressed by TPM but was amazed at AOTC ... it looks fantastic in 3D

I don't care about SW in 3D, but I will probably see ROTS in 3D. I'm just happy because this means (I assume) that the OT is going to have to get the HD overhaul it needs for the conversion process!

I could take it or leave it. I wasn't to thrilled with Episode I in 3D (though the Pod-Race provided a great case for it).

Is there any "proof" that "the phantom menace" had any new scans/tranfers/remastering when upgraded to 3D?

I thought it was the same old transfer.....
