If you have a DJ see if he has sound effects, most actually do. When you hit the cake have him play a lightsaber one, the results will be fun.

Maybe all you guys have simply been listening to too many haters. Does less than 10% being changed ultimately mean that much to all of you?

I've decided to stay away from this release simply because I can wait for another re-release in the future (possibly when all the films have been released in 3D). Besides, Indiana Jones just seems more worth it and will be sure not to disappoint.

You're missing the point. For me it has nothing to do with the changes. I was simply stating that the appeal they once had for me no longer exists for whatever reason. I wish I still felt the love, but I don't.

Have you bothered to look through all the changes that have been made? It's MUCH more than 10%.

To me the changes equal to what it would be like if when the Beatles released the remaster of Revolver if they added a 10 second rap at the end of Elenore Rigby.

You're likely just burned out on Star Wars. Put it away for 1-3 years and then give it another look. If you still feel the same way, maybe you have lost your love for it. Nothing wrong with that. Tastes change. People change. People get sick of things. You can watch something too often and it becomes rote. I've had it happen with various films. It's perfectly normal.

I wouldn't jump and sell it just yet. Considering what you likely paid for it versus what you'd get reselling it, why take the loss until you know for sure?

This is why I've come to the conclusion I have actually. I have pondered this for years. For about a decade now I've felt like I had to force myself to sit through the films. Unfortunately no matter how long the break inbetween subsequent viewings I like them less and less. I think it's time to part company with this franchise and retain the few happy memories that remain.

I didn't realize it had been a decade. I took you to mean that this was a relatively new feeling. If it's been a decade, then yeah, I'd say your feelings have changed and it's time to move on. And this feeling is for all versions-UOT, '97, '04, '11, and the prequels as well?

Not really; the biggest changes don't usually last too long, with the exception of the musical number in "Jedi". Everything else is very minor, so in terms of the whole saga, its not a high number.

Sorry to hear that; I've seen all of them tons of times, yet I still enjoy them a great deal. Are you going through any real-life issues, like depression and such?

Have you ever actually watched the originals? GL commercialization and bastardization of Star Wars is what has pushed the fan following over the proverbial cliff. I agree and feel likewise as mayday72, all my fond memories and warm and fuzzy feelings will only persist so long as I have good quality copies of the original untouched trilogy to enjoy. Anything else is like replacing Coke with Walmart Sam's Cola.

I grew up on the originals with VHS copies as a kid, so I'm well aware of them. I'm not terribly offended or disgusted by the changes, and I really don't understand why so many are. They're not some kind of sacred entity, so there's no point in treating them as such.

I kinda feel the same way... I have good memories of Star Wars, I like this idea of the OT formed in my head when I first viewed it as a kid, this epic space adventure, but when I actually sit down to watch it, it just feels kind of dull and dramatically inert for me. Maybe because every second of the film has been thoroughly absorbed into pop culture and everything just feels overly familiar. I still think Empire holds up well, but the other ones I could take or leave really.

The worst thing about this set, is not the changes, IMO, but the quite frankly dire extras.

I think the dullness came from the prequel trilogy, even if not directly injected with changes into the original trilogy, just the knowledge of the adjusted storyline affects your emotion and absorption of the OT material. The changes to the OT just roots that new narrative that much deeper in overwriting the original presence of the films.

For example, the battle between Luke and Darth Vader was more psychological than physical. The prequels came in and robbed Darth Vader of his image of being dark and manipulative figure into an annoying kid with a bad love life. All the PT fights were choreographed exceptionally well but had no emotion or spirit as the mind games between Luke and Vader. By the time you get to the OT 4.0 you just don't feel it anymore.

That's why I kept my DVDs when I got the Blu-ray set.

Hey. Thanks for sharing guys. I thought I was the only one going through this depression.

I am bored when I watch it now. The visuals are still fun to watch but I can't get myself to sit through the whole movie. I wind up just skipping to my favorite scenes and then put it away to watch something else.

The part that depresses me is that I've realized I am old. I remember, when I was younger, that I'd be horrified if one day I felt the same way about this film as my mom did. She thought it was kids stuff and just silly and didn't understand it. When I'd try to get her to watch it with me, she'd be bored and start to do something else.

The excitement and thrill has declined. The magical quality seems to have lessened. I've only felt it just recently so I am going to take a break, as suggested, and come back to it when I get in the mood.
