Is he going to talk to the chair that Yoda used to occupy?

Personally, my three director picks for the new trilogy would be Gore Verbinski, Joe Johnston and Brad Bird. They have all done work for Disney in the past (even currently -- Verbinksi just wrapped "The Lone Ranger" and Disney is currently working with Bird on his next two projects, "1906" and "1952") and all have made a ton of money for the studio. Specifically, in Johnston's case he even started his career with Lucas working in visual effects on the original trilogy and has worked under Kennedy in the past as well. Verbinski was behind "Rango" which ILM's animation division was behind so I'm sure Lucas is very acquainted with what he's capable of and Brad Bird's track record simply speaks for itself, the man holds practically a flawless record when it comes to making films that not only connect with audiences but reel in the money that studios love seeing. I think that all three of these guys would do wonders to the franchise. They all know how to tell compelling and visually stunning stories, I really hope that these men are seriously considered for the franchise.

Why are ppl saying the the UOT won't be released a long as Fox has the distribution rights. I don't see why that has to be a roadblock.

JOE JOHNSTON

He's wrapping his current movie anytime now, which I don't think would take much post-production time.

I'm not gonna bother finding anymore names. He was directly involved in the original trilogy, he knows the universe inside out. And he has turned out to be respectable director.

Though not all his work were great, he got all the experience: Honey I Shrunk The Kids, Rocketeer, Jumanji, October Sky, Jurassic Park III, Captain America: The First Avenger, to name a few. And again he spent 7 years of his early career working on three Star Wars films. He worked with Kathleen Kennedy before, and he's surely a Star Wars fan.

So I'm crossing everyone including Brad Bird, JJ Abrams, etc, out of the list. Let's just wait for the announcement in a few weeks.

I find it interesting that Lucus is likening his current/future role as a creative consultant in the sequel trilogy to what he was in the orignal trilogy. Now obviously A New Hope is an exception since he directed that one, but obviously other people directed Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. So it begs the question; just how much influence did Lucus have on these? I'm starting to think that it wasn't as much as we are lead on to believe.

There are plenty of interviews out there showing that Lucas was just a PART of what made Star Wars and Empire the huge successes they were.

Google Gary Kurtz.

Yes but unlike the lucas slanderers want to happen based on their disdain, Lucas still was a PART the OT and he is still needed to make Star Wars what it is, which is why Disney secured him as a consultant. And they aren't gonna pay him that money per year just to fade away if his presence will be as influential as the OT.

Obviously his lack of total control is good for bittered fans, but to think hes just gonna retire cold and Kennedy and Disney wouldn't beg him for input is just plain stupid.

Google Gary Kurtz.
Why are you having someone Google a washed-up/butthurt ex-producer? Just how much of the OT trilogy did he write? Oh yeah: NONE.

Lucas made the whole thing work. Kurtz was a cog in the machine.

This revisionist history needs to stop.

Lucas certainly had a hand in the writing of all of the SW films and of course the story is 100% his. He also directed a good portion of ROTJ because Marquand was not used to working with special effects.

I agree, he was a necessary part of the success!

But his lack of total control was a GOOD thing that made the first two films the best in the series.

In the "movies" thread got all these guys claiming that the cander and position Lucas holds is just meritorious. Utterly off base with reality and a bias opinion. You ask them what their position is and its the general "the prequels are worse, and lucas changes are horrible".

No wonder they wish lucas would just remove himself. But no chance Kennedy or Disney would just give up on him being a part of it. (He may have given away most of the deal money, but you better believe the consulting money per year would be 10 Million or more)

More likely is her and Disney begged Lucas to not just take the 4Billion and run. And this is shown by the fact that Lucas is in the meetings with writers for 7,8, and 9's treatment direction.

Lucas wasn't really the director of the original Star Wars either.

They just gave him the credit, and the story was written by Gary Kurtz, and others, not him.

Lucas has only done the prequels, and the OT SE, and destroyed SW forever.
