Don't want to prolong this, but my point is simple: that can be said in both directions. If people saying how good the films are is acceptable on the thread, then so are those expressing dissatisfaction. If they're truly just trolling (and, with respect, you don't actually know that they are) then that's easy enough to ignore, but we should also object to the sort of mob mentality that drowns out dissenting opinions just because it can.

Fair enough. I'd personally disagree with you, at least far enough to say I don't think Clones is as good as it could (should?) have been, but I'm not going to whinge about it.

Of course, the increased resolution of BD amplifies all or any imperfections of given movie, but, I, for one, prefer it this way.

I can love a movie, warts and all.

Imperfections have their own merit.

I see your point though. Almost

It's not a thread solely for people who own the sets, nor is it only a thread for people who love all of the films. It's also a thread for people who are interested in any of the sets, including the separate trilogy releases, or any of the movies on Blu-ray. So discussion about whether one is interested in purchasing the prequels or not on Blu-ray and why is entirely within the boundaries of the thread. It's a film series, and the Blu-ray releases to date are of the entire series or the two halves of the series, so discussion of the individual films and trilogies is warranted. And since the movies themselves are very much a part of the Blu-ray release, the discussion of the reviews and critiques of the movies is naturally going to be a part of many discussions. So talking about how good or bad you think a movie is definitely is part of this thread and a part of any other release thread, because the movie is the major component of the Blu-ray release.

It's would be trolling if the thread was solely about the prequels and someone came in just to say "The prequels suck!" But when the thread is about all of the available live action Star Wars films on Blu-ray and someone says they don't like the prequels as opposed to the original trilogy, that's not trolling. Sure it could become trolling, but I'm not seeing any trolling over the last several pages. All I'm seeing is people starting to get worked up over personal preferences and tastes - and treating those opinions like they're facts - and that's usually what threads eventually become to some degree.

A forum is about discussion, and lengthy discussion always involves elements of disagreement. Just because someone disagrees with you, or just because they don't like certain things that you like, that doesn't make him/her a troll.

I have the cinefex issue, which discussed the VFX of AOTC, and even the miniatures were shot with those HD cameras, and there are tons of models in the film.

I would really like what resolution the digital effects were at for the prequels.

Considering the left cheek of the Hulk (2003) alone was painted at 1024 x 2048 resolution, so I don't believe the CG was done at 1080p.
Also, considering the amount of detailing you have to do, and if you work at such low resolution, then you can't go in very far.

Anyways, John Knoll said they used the in camera softening filter, because they felt the HD image was too sharp, so I don't think we will ever see it look ant sharper than this.

I would love to have light shed on this topic though.

The BD of AOTC is still a good 4/5.

Are you now? You're sure about this? Hm. What if I said that I'm sure that that one person was probably on the fence about liking it, and RLM just pushed him/her on their side? Would you put much stock in that? I doubt it. I honestly think people are putting too much into all of this. They're movies. Only movies. You could tell me all day long that "Mom and Dad Save the World" is garbage, but I wouldn't find it any less hilarious because I think Jon Lovitz is awesome and I enjoy the movie for what it is: COMPLETE AND UTTER RIDICULOUSNESS! For someone to enjoy something only to hate it after someone else tells them to, it means one of 2 things: either they didn't really like it in the first place, or they have no mind of their own. (There may be a 3rd option, but I don't really think that if you ABSOLUTELY enjoy a movie, that the watching of some weird vid is gonna change your mind just like that.)

I looked back at my original post in response to what you typed, and while it wasn't directed at me (I thought this was a public forum anyway), it wasn't rude or mean. I was only pointing out what I thought should be obvious to most people by now. I don't take ANY MOVIE all that seriously. In my case, they're escapism. Fun. If I go to the movies, or pop in a DVD or BD, and I have a good time, it's a good movie to me. Hearing a monotone serial killer/rapist talk about a movie isn't a good time for me. The best example that I can think of where I have a good time as they trash movies that I enjoy is the "Critics Who Hated It" commentaries on "The Matrix" movies. Now those guys were quite funny (to me), and even managed to clearly tell me why they didn't like it without all the "dark comedy". Did they "convert" me? No way! I was now able to understand their POV, but it didn't lessen my enjoyment of them. They also didn't make the claims that RLM makes in his "review".

I've tried to sit through RLM's reviews, but I kept finding myself fastforwarding in order to get to the freakin' point. I felt like I was in an episode of The Simpsons ("Black Widower") when the family is watching that comedian on the Krusty Kids Telethon for Motion Sickness; "Stupid t.v.! Be more funny!" Does he make some good points? A few. But most of it isn't all that eye-opening. I mean, at one point he goes on the street to ask people to describe prequel characters, and it seems he only talks to people who haven't even watched the movies. In another part he observes GL's staff and talks about how scared they are of their boss and how everyone had a look of dread after they screened the movie for the first time, but I never saw those scenes that way. I saw employees eager to please, yet unsure of how they were going to do it... at first. Which I don't believe to be a bad thing. When they were finished with the movie, we can see for ourselves that the points brought up after their initial viewing were handled. The end was rearranged to fit the narrative better, which is why they have those screenings in the first place.

Edit: Thank you for informing me that funny is a point of view. I mean, I just thought humor was objective.

If you would've included "to me", I couldn't have disagreed. I didn't jump in to be a troll. Far from it. I just thought that it would be alright for me to post my opinions on a subject brought up on a public forum. Apparently I was wrong. I find it interesting that there is talk of folks saying it's okay to disagree, yet when someone does, all Hell seems to break loose and people get hurt feelings. On both sides. Like I typed, they're only movies. I went. I saw. I had a great time. And I continue to have a great time every year I watch all 6 in a row with a group of friends on a day we affectionately call "Star Wars Day".

My question is why does it bother the "Prequel Dislikers" that there are a group of us that enjoy all 6 movies; that there are some who can still dislike what has been changed about the OT, but who can still enjoy them because it's still "Star Wars" and those same changes honestly have no impact on the story as a whole (at least to us)? I LOVE "Jaws" and hate all of its sequels, but I ain't telling everyone who enjoys them to "go watch a video because you're wrong". I say, "Good for you! So what do you like about them? Really? Well, I guess they DO have their fans!" Then I go on with my day. It's as simple as that. To go on for over a decade, and telling people that they HAVE to watch RLM's review- and agree with it- in order to have a say about "Star Wars"- and then mocked if they don't want to waste their time.... (Which it is a waste of time since he draaaaaaaaags it out, and his points aren't as concrete as some people seem to believe.) Well, it just don't seem right to me. Live and let live. Or live and let die. (Whatever. It had a good rhythm!) That's what I say.

And a good day to you, sir.

My signature is facetious (not the Nic Cage part, though). And that's all I have to say since I don't want to try and match your dissertation-length response. Brevity is the soul of wit.

And yet it seems to fit your perspective on this subject. My response was respectful, and there are no spelling errors to annoy the eyes. When read, it actually doesn't take that long to go through, but you act like I wrote a book. You don't counter anything, you only post a racist picture (that actually offends this black man) and then take a single sentence I typed and enlarge it as if that was what my entire post was about. I show respect, and try to explain my perspective. You show racism and disrespect.

Ladies, could you put your purses away and take it to the pm system? This back and forth is getting personal and isn't adding anything to the thread. I only pop in every so often and don't feel like weeding though this to get to the meat of the matter.

The entire franchise has religious implications. I'm Atheist but I believe it's much more entertaining than the actual Bible itself.

Might be a dumb question, but how low has this set gone? Just seeing if there's any hope in waiting for a price decrease or if I should just jump on a used ebay set. Thanks for any help for the noob

Im thinking of taking that route myself, i cant find one in a store for less than 100 bucks and online about 80 bucks. I have the the 2 seperate trilogy sets, but i want the 3 discs of xtras so im gonna buy the set and trade my 2 sets in to offset cost a little. I havent seen this set online though for less than 80 bucks.

Here's something I've always been curious about and its not just limited to the Blu-Ray versions. A New Hope seems to have the most contrast, colours and overall 'pop' of the OT despite being the oldest with the most limited budget. What does this come down to?

Perhaps very slightly more than the other two, but maybe a product of the sets and conditions when filming, and/or how it was mastered. I do think A New Hope takes on weird darker red-orange facial tones at times that don't look natural and I don't see that with the other two movies as much. Does anyone know if the original versions of the prints had this issue?
