Agreed, luckily I still have the phantom edit I can watch, he is almost non existent in that!

Only after the Special Editions. I don't recall anything 1/1,000,000th as silly in the OOT.

If you mean by "plenty" that there were "plenty" of ewoks then I'll give you that, they were nearly just as bad as Jar-Jar, but nothing else in the OT comes close to being as childish and as stupid as Jar-Jar.

Neesen felt flat and boring to me, Maul was awesome but could have been something much more if he wasn't killed off so quickly, McGregor was a bit stale in TPM but was better for the run later on, Portman was ok in this and was a sexy godess in the others who was a cock tease in AOTC, but yes on the whole I agree it was the bad writing and directing that hurt it the most.

I have to disagree on portman .. she gave the most lifeless performances I have ever witnessed by any living actress. Her face looked like it had been in either frozen solid or injected with botox so her facial muscles did not move .. terrible.

I have a DVD version of the original trilogy that doesn't have the Nooooo in ROTJ, but does have the Han shooting second thing in ANH. Based on everyone's hatred for the changes, is it worth it for me to buy these Blu Rays on sale now? or should I wait 10 years for the original versions to come out?

Note that I never watched SW as a kid so I don't have a nostalgic attachment that others have.

As irritating as the changes are, to most people. The movies look and sound fantastic on Blu-ray. If you really plan to wait those ten years (And believe me, it will likely be ten years, if not more) then, go for it. Personally, I'd snatch them if you see them on sale and enjoy Star Wars in high-def, now. If and when the unaltered OT comes out, pick it up.

As much as I think voting with your wallet is a great concept, it just isn't going to hurt anything like the Star Wars brand. All of those proud hold outs who refuse to own the movies now, are simply missing out on the best that Star Wars has ever looked.

I finally just picked up the complete saga. I am so shocked that I waited this long, but I just couldn't go another Star Wars day (May the 4th) without having it.

Well, the holdouts who refuse to buy will be waiting a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGG time for an unaltered release.

I hate the changes too, but I can ignore it for the great video and audio.

You might as well never buy blu-rays again.

Meh. As a guy who enjoys Blu-Ray as a luxury and not a necessity, I'd rather watch my fan-made DVD transfers of the UOT then the altered versions on the Blu-Ray.

It really depends on how much the alterations bother you, though. For me, I could have lived with them until the most recent "noooo" alteration, which to me completely ruins the ending and one of my favorite moments from the trilogy.

I especially feel the sting because I watch Blu-Rays on my 100" projector screen, and it would be awesome to watch the saga on it. But honestly, I still get more enjoyment watching the old-school versions on my dinky 32" set. Your mileage will vary.

I'm eventually going to get the Complete Saga. I'm just a bargain hunter and have been holding out for a nice price drop or sale.

That's the only reason I ended up buying it. An electronics shop here was getting out of Blu-rays, and I got the "complete" set brand new for less than what each of the trilogy sets sell for here in OZ.

The transfer of the PTs are far from impressive, and most of the extras are meh, but the OT transfers and the audio overall are pleasing, so what the heck.

"An Alternative Suggestion

How can you ensure that a viewing keeps the Vader reveal a surprise, while introducing young Anakin before the end of Return of the Jedi?

Simple, watch them in this order: IV, V, I, II, III, VI.

George Lucas believes that Star Wars is the story of Anakin Skywalker, but it is not. The prequels, which establish his character, are so poor at being character-driven that, if the series is about Anakin, the entire series is a failure. Anakin is not a relatable character, Luke is.

This alternative order (which a commenter has pointed out is called Ernest Rister order) inserts the prequel trilogy into the middle, allowing the series to end on the sensible ending point (the destruction of the Empire) while still beginning with Luke’s journey.

Effectively, this order keeps the story Luke’s tale. Just when Luke is left with the burning question “how did my father become Darth Vader?” we take an extended flashback to explain exactly how. Once we understand how his father turned to the dark side, we go back to the main storyline and see how Luke is able to rescue him from it and salvage the good in him.

The prequel backstory comes at the perfect time, because Empire Strikes Back ends on a huge cliffhanger. Han is in carbonite, Vader is Luke’s father, and the Empire has hit the rebellion hard. Delaying the resolution of this cliffhanger makes it all the more satisfying when Return of the Jedi is watched.

Narratively, it’s just like a movie that starts with a big opening, then fades to “2 years earlier” for most of the movie, until it catches up with the present time and concludes."

I'm going to have to give the "Ernest Rister Order" a go this summer, because that does sound intriguing.

To the very least, it makes the Hayden Christensen Ghost make more sense.

Need a little help.

What would be the best order to watch the films for someone who has never seen Star Wars?
