His Will will automatically change itself every 10 years, each time becoming more and more nonsensical. It'll follow the trend of all great things created by him.

yeah....I'd be appalled, but I'd still probably Netflick it just to see a breakdancing Jawa with my own eyes. It'd definitely be more entertaining than Anakin cardboard-cutout acting his way into Padme's heart.

Hopefully, they will just do a reboot instead of trying to make the OT as good as the prequels.

I like the original versions of the OT. I like the special editions as well. What irks me to no end are the constant little changes. Adding Jabba to ANH, then redoing Jabba for the next edition of ANH. Having Han shoot Greedo, then changing it to Greedo shooting first, then re-redoing the scene again with different, better effects. Etc, etc, etc. What I would like is simply for the original, unaltered (but cleaned up) versions to be released, then have George do them the way he wants them... I mean REALLY the way he wants them, correctly & entirely. Give us those and be done with it, rather than the little putterings that we get every few years. Needlless to say, I'm sure I'll feel the same way about the PT once special editions of those films start coming forth.

They will only be finished when he is dead. Lucas and his "Original Vision" will continue to change with each new VFX breakthrough.

The blu-ray release next year will no doubt be different from the 2004 versions. And those were different from the 1997 versions. Every new iteration wipes the slate clean.

I feel the same way. If he just keeps making more changes every time he releases the movies, then he's not really making the movies into what he originally wanted them to be, it just means that he doesn't know what he really wants or can't make up his mind.
One of the changes that he made on the DVD release that I didn't like at all was changing Bobba Fett's voice. I understand why he chose to do it, but I just don't like it.

Yes, they're his and he can do whatever he wants to with them. We're just saying the argument that the Special Editions are the versions he always wanted falls flat because he keeps changing them.

We are also free to debate whether or not the special editions are actually in improvement over the originals (I'm in the "Hell, no" camp there, if you haven't guessed).

Too many people are seduced by the dubious notion that newer and more expensive automatically equals "better." Newer and more expensive only equals newer and more expensive.

GL is (legally) free to do what he wants to his movies, yes, and we are equally free to be brutally honest and tell him, "George, you got it right the first time. Leave it alone. Stop tinkering with 40 year-old films. Just move on and try doing something new. If you don't have any new ideas, then just take the billions we gave you and spend them on the kids."

yeah. I'd rather have an army of bad ass Jeremy Bulloch clones than Temura Morrison (who is also cool as hell...I just like Jeremy's Boba voice more, sounds more ruthless and cold).

You know, when you hear so much about the breakdown of traditional values it's nice to see there are still responsible parents in the world.

seriously ( I am not saying all of you are doing it) stop making fun of GL he made star wars for goodness sake. And I don't understand the dislike of the prequels sure episode 1 was bad I will agree with that but Episodes 2 and 3 where better. The OT will allways be better than the pt I agree with that but expect for episode 1 the other prequel films are not that bad.

I myself refuse to get into this debate on whether the original trilogy was better than the prequels, or whether the original trilogy was better before or after Mr. Lucas' changes.

I do feel that the original trilogy, as it was originally created, is historically important. By that I mean that the original trilogy that audiences watched in 1977, 1980, and 1983 made a significant impact on film, and the science fiction film genre in general. I feel it is important to preserve something that made such an undeniable impact on popular culture as it was originally created.

Will I refuse to buy the new versions of the original trilogy? Of course not! I love Star Wars, and I will buy the Blu-ray release regardless. However, I feel it would be a shame if the original incarnation of the films, the cuts and "primitive" special effects that impacted and inspired so many (flaws and warts and all), that helped pave the way for absolute incredible breakthroughs in film special effects, were to be forgotten. I would love to have a high quality version of the films that would showcase both the original cuts, and their evolution into the modern film era.

Just my 2 cents, and hopefully my small share of sanity to add to this thread.

Most people stop using it 18 months ago after they were made fun off by almost everyone else including people who never heard of Lucas or Star Wars

I have heard that phrase used on more than one occasion (and note, I am NOT one the same side of the argument as Beast), but I do think the more hard-core SE defenders do tend to blow out of proportion how frequently it actually happens.

For every one time someone actually says it and means it, there are many, many, many, many occasions of SE fans complaining about how often it happens.
