Or, in other words, YouTube.

I don't think I've seen such a lazy collection of documentaries (old shit + new toss that doesn't actually have any bearing on the films themelves) than what's in that SW set. My favourite feature is the only one worth bothering with: the OT deleted scenes.

I loved the 501st documentary. I've watched it a couple of times in fact.

The 501st documentary is probably the best. Empire of Dreams should have been included, but 501st is great.

Keep in mind some of that stuff on YouTube is against copyright and could be taken down at any time.

Not to mention the quality on disc is a lot better.

Pfft. I'd still rather, y'know, watch the movies or a sterling 'making of' rather than a bunch of parodies.

Same here, so the inclusion of the three 'classic' documentaries with a bunch of ephemera (parodies! nerds!) on the Blu-rays didn't blow my skirt up. I could always go back to the DVD with Empire of Dreams for a proper fix, but that's not the point. I do believe that the set which came with that disc is OOP, so if someone says that it's still out there, to somehow justify its exclusion from the Blu-ray set, then they're being a bit disingenuous. (Yeah, you can buy the disc for pennies second hand, but that's not the point.) IMO the Blu-ray set is a missed opportunity of Death Star-sized proportions.

To call something "The Complete Saga" and retail for $130 it should include every version of the films and all of the previous extras from VHS, laserdisc and DVD. It should actually be called "Star Wars: The Complete Saga...Of The Bastardized Version With A Few Extras Thrown In." But I doubt they could fit that on the spine.

Once Episode 7 comes out, it won't be the complete saga anymore anyways!

OK, then it should be called "Star Wars: The Complete Saga...Of The Bastardized Version With A Few Extras Thrown In...Until The Terrible Episode VII From The Hack Who Ruined Star Trek Is Released".

Almost none of the live dialogue recording was ever used.

Also, almost all film sound (except for the music score) is recorded in mono and panned. Only in the very early days of 6-track 70mm and Cinerama did they attempt to record dialog and effects in true stereo.
I'm saying that the DVD bonus versions are the laserdisc ones that contain the "mono" Aunt Beru. That's the version ( mono Beru ) that I had on VHS, taped off the tele back in the day and her last line of dialogue " I think so " on the laserdisc is the Stereo russian sounding Beru NOT the softer, more natural mono one. I hate the Stereo version.

I am not aware of any specific announcement of that happening, but it wouldn't surprise me based on what happened with the OT DVDs.

The OT was initially released in a 4-disc box set in 2004 with a bonus features disc exclusive to that set.

A year later (2005) they released a set with just the 3 movie discs and no bonus disc.

In 2006 they released the films individually in 2-disc sets, with the first disc of each film being identical to those previous releases, but now including the bonus discs with the original versions on them (crappily ported from old laserdisc masters).

A year or two (2007 or 2008) after that they released a 6-disc digi-pack box set containing the same discs as those individual releases.

I'm not sure exactly when it happened, but at some point over the course of those release variations, they discontinued that 2004 box set with the bonus features disc, which was the only way ever to get that disc (none of the subsequent variations ever included it again) while the later variations were still being manufactured.

So I wouldn't be surprised if at some point in the not-too-distant future they discontinue the saga set with the 3 bonus features discs. This is a complete guess on my part, though, based only on what happened with the DVDs as evidence.

I'm not sure if they plan to keep producing the separate Blu-Ray-only trilogy sets, but that would be moot since all of those same discs are included in the new combo pack versions.
