Just goes to show that you can't always trust what people are saying online.

The transfers are exactly the same as the original BD's that came out in 2011.

Which means that TPM is still heavily DNR'ed.

Such a waste of a good quality HD master.

Sorry I was talking about The Phantom Menace DVD and whether it's been upgraded from the original DVD release. Even if it's used the Blu-ray master it will be an improvement!

It's a huge improvement on the original DVD but I think they went to soft with it. It was filmed with Pro Mist filters they didn't need to add any more!

Very little is CG, except the aforementioned planets. They kept the majority of the matte paintings and model shots, things like the phasers and other "energy" effects were always CG anyway, even back in 1987.

Some of those shots of the Enterprise-D are actually a completely CG recreation of the ship, because some particular elements could not be found for the ship itself.

Yes, for one or two shots. They can spend a lot of time finessing it and getting it reasonably perfect. Doing it for *every* shot is another story.

Don't get me wrong it's a night and day difference between the old DVD transfer, a huge improvement but it would've looked even better if it hadn't been heavily filtered.

The DNR is the only issue that the BD has tbh.

I have a hunch that it would've probably looked just as good as Revenge Of The Sith's transfer if all the detail was left intact.

I'm not sure if the new DVD is the from the same scan as the BD.

There's no hope though for Attack Of The Clones which has also been filtered to look better then it does on the current BD in terms of picture quality.

If I remember correctly it was heavily filtered in post production and it'll forever be stuck like that.

You can never have a Star Wars discussion without Star Trek fanboys eventually changing the topic... This is why we can't have nice things.

Oh, I'm sorry if you took it as negative. I must have forgotten to include that line that explains why everything he does is so great. Silly me, forgetting to explain something so the rest will make sense. It will be included on my commentary on iTunes - only $4.99!!!!!

I can say at least 1 positive thing about him - he is done directing Star Trek(at least until Star Wars bombs).
